BACKGROUND Most eukaryocytes release nano vesicles (30-120 nm), named exosomes, to various biological fluids such as blood, lymph, and milk. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the tumors with the highest incidence rate in primary malignant carcinoma of the liver. However, the mechanism of HCC proliferation remains elusive.

Glutaredoxin (Grx) is a class molecule oxidoreductase, which can regulate the redox state of proteins and plays a key role in antioxidant defense. However, the informations of Grx cDNA sequences and their functions are lack in decapod crustacea. In the present study, the cDNA of LvGrx 2 was cloned from the Pacific white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei.

This study was aimed at investigating the cellular responses of Penaeus monodon haemocytes to poly I:C stimulation using flow cytometric assay. Total haemocyte count (THC), percentages of different haemocyte subpopulations [hyaline cells (HC), semigranular cells (SGC) and granular cells (GC)], non-specific esterase activity (EA), total reactive oxygen species/reactive nitrogen species (ROS/RNS) production, nitric oxide (NO) production, apoptotic haemocyte ratio and plasmic phenoloxidase (PO) activity were determined in poly I:C-injected shrimp. Results showed that poly I:C at a low dose (5 μg shrimp) caused obvious increases in THC, GC proportion, ROS/RNS production and NO production, but had no significant effect on EA, apoptosis and PO activity.

Rahnella aquatilis infection is rare in aquaculture. Here, a Gram-negative rod-shaped bacterium was isolated from diseased crucian carp Carassius auratus in Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province, eastern China. The isolate was tentatively named strain KCL-5, and subsequently identified as R.

Background & Aims: We aimed at investigating the effects of the targeted transduction of the Wtp53-pPRIME-miR30-shRNA gene into liver cancer cells, under the mediation of anti-alpha fetoprotein scFv-directed lentivirus, and the inhibitory effect of this system on liver cancer cells.

Methods: The result of infection was observed by fluorescence microscopy. Polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting were used to demonstrate the successful transduction and transcription of the Wtp53-pPRIME-miR30-shRNA-IGF1R gene.

Liver transplantation is an established therapy for end-stage liver diseases. Graft rejection occurs unless the recipient receives immunosuppression after transplantation. This study aimed to explore the mechanism of acute rejection of liver allografts in rats pre-treated with total body irradiation to eliminate passenger lymphocytes and to define the role of CD4(+)CD25(+) regulatory T cells in the induction of immunotolerance in the recipient.

Reduced cellular immune function in patients after liver transplantation easily results in many types of viral infections, such as Epstein-Barr virus. Epstein-Barr virus is a Γ-herpesvirus and is related to many malignant diseases, especially epithelial and lymph tumors. The abnormal interaction of cluster of differentiation 40 with cluster of differentiation 40 ligand and expression of cluster of differentiation 40 ligand are considered closely related to the development of myeloma cells.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Jing-feng Sun"

  • - Jing-Feng Sun's recent research primarily focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) proliferation and immune responses in crustaceans, highlighting the role of microRNAs and exosomes in cancer biology and the immune system's interaction with pathogens.
  • - Key findings include the identification of exosome-mediated miR-155 transfer that promotes HCC cell proliferation by targeting the tumor suppressor PTEN, as well as the investigation of glutaredoxin (Grx) 2's role in antioxidant defense mechanisms in the Pacific white shrimp.
  • - Additional studies involve the flow cytometric analysis of immune cell responses in shrimp, the first report of Rahnella aquatilis infection in crucian carp, and exploring the effects of total body irradiation on liver transplant tolerance, contributing to a broader understanding of microbial infections and immunology in aquatic organisms and transplantation biology.
