Background: Emerging evidence suggests that systemic inflammatory and nutritional biomarkers, along with derived indices, could serve as predictors for sarcopenia in cancer population. This study aimed to compare these predictors, focusing on the nutritional risk index (NRI) and evaluate its diagnostic value, for sarcopenic patients without cancer.

Methods: This cross-sectional retrospective study included 1674 participants.

Calpains are intracellular calcium-dependent cysteine proteases, which cleave several substrates proteins, have been proven to play important roles in lung fibrosis. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of calpain on bleomycin (BLM)-induced pulmonary fibrosis. A lung fibrosis mice model was established successfully by intraperitoneal injection of bleomycin.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic and usually progressive lung disease and the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) may play an important role in the pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis. IL-17 is a proinflammatory cytokine which promotes EMT profiles in lung inflammatory diseases. In this study, we investigated the effect of IL-17 on EMT in alveolar epithelial cell line A549 and the role of TGFβ1-Smad and ERK signaling pathways in the process.
