Objective: To investigate short-term efficacy of direct laparoscopic-assisted radical gastrectomy (LAG) versus non-curative endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) plus additional LAG for early gastric cancer.

Materials And Methods: 286 patients were retrospectively assigned into two groups: direct LAG group (n = 255) and additional LAG (ESD plus LAG, n = 31) group. A 1:2 propensity score matching was performed to equalize relevant confounding factors between two groups for analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • Uric acid is the final product of purine metabolism, and high levels in the body (hyperuricemia) can lead to various health issues due to oxidative stress and inflammation.
  • The presence of high uric acid affects the availability of nitric oxide in the body, which plays a crucial role in many physiological functions.
  • This review highlights the mechanisms by which high uric acid reduces nitric oxide levels and aims to improve understanding of the links between hyperuricemia and other metabolic diseases.

To explore the feasibility of mesangium or membrane anatomy theory in thoracolaparoscopic radical esophagectomy for esophageal cancer, 98 patients with esophageal cancer were enrolled including 45 patients in the mesoesophageal esophagectomy group and 53 patients in the non-mesoesophageal esophagectomy group. Thoracolaparoscopic radical esophagecotmy was technically successful in all patients. Compared the non-mesoesophageal group, the mesoesophageal group had significantly (P < 0.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a series of complex neurodevelopmental disorders, which can affect children's social, behavioral and communication abilities. A member of the Sirtuins family of NAD + dependent deacetylases called SIRT2 could regulate the inflammation progress during stress, but the relevant mechanism has not been clearly defined. In the present study, the ASD model of wild type and SIRT2 knock out mice was established to evaluate the impact on the homeostasis of neurons in the hippocampus using western blotting, immunofluorescence and Nissl staining.

To investigate the clinical efficacy of laparoscopic total colectomy with ileorectal anastomosis (TC-IRA) and laparoscopic subtotal colectomy with antiperistaltic cecorectal anastomosis (SC-ACRA) on adults with slow transit constipation (STC). One hundred and three patients with STC were assigned to the TC-IRA group (n = 53) and the SC-ACRA group (n = 50). The clinical data were analyzed.

To investigate the efficacy and safety of combined thoracoscopic and laparoscopic radical resection of esophagogastric junction cancers using a natural orifice specimen extraction-like approach for extraction of large surgical specimens. Patients who had esophagogastric junction cancers treated with thoracolaparoscopic resection using the natural orifice specimen extraction-like approach for specimen extraction were retrospectively enrolled. A 5-cm transverse incision on the abdominal wall at the middle of the superior pubic symphysis was made for surgical specimen extraction.

Surgery is the only curative approach for resectable esophageal cancer. This retrospective study was to investigate the immediate effect and operative complications of conventional and modified thoracolaparoscopic esophagectomy with a cervical or abdominal incision to extract specimen for the treatment of patients with esophageal cancer. Eighty-one patients were enrolled, among which 55 patients underwent conventional McKeown thoracolaparoscopic esophagectomy (conventional MTE) and 26 patients underwent modified MTE with a cerivical incision (modified MTE).

Purpose: To explore the effectiveness and safety of laparoscopic transhiatal complete mesenteric resection (CME) surgery compared with those of the traditional laparoscopic transhiatal approach in the treatment of Siewert II/III adenocarcinoma of the esophagogastric junction (AEG).

Materials And Methods: Ninety-nine patients with Siewert type II/III AEG were enrolled and divided into two groups: the laparoscopic CME transhiatal approach (CEM-TH, n = 61) group and traditional laparoscopic transhiatal (TH, n = 38) group. Intraoperative and postoperative clinical data of both groups were analyzed.

The social defeat stress model is commonly used to study depression and anxiety disorder, which can significantly affect the structure and function of neurons in the hippocampus; however, the relevant mechanism in neuronal loss has not been clearly defined. In the present study, a social defeat stress model was established in mice to evaluate the impact of social defeat stress on the structure of neurons in the hippocampus using Western blotting, immunofluorescence, Nissl staining, Golgi staining and transmission electron microscopy. The results demonstrated that social defeat stress leads to disruption of homeostasis in the hippocampus and the integrity of mitochondria in hippocampal neurons was markedly affected by enhanced mitophagy and autophagy resulting in inhibition of development and growth.

Previous researches have indicated that sleep plays a vital role in cognitive functions. Sleep deprivation (SD) causes learning and memory damage, which is associated with oxidative stress. This study was performed to investigate the neuroprotective effects of an extract of Abelmoschus manihot flower (EAM) against memory deficit induced by SD in mice.

Tea waste biochar (TWBC) was prepared at 300℃, 500℃, and 700℃ under oxygen-limited atmosphere, and was characterized by elemental analysis, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller measurement, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. TWBC was then used to remove tetracycline from aqueous solution. The influences of solid-to-liquid ratio, pH, ionic types, and strength were investigated.

Arecoline is a naturally occurring psychoactive alkaloid with partial agonism at nicotinic and muscarinic acetylcholine receptors. Arecoline consumption is widespread, making it the fourth (after alcohol, nicotine and caffeine) most used substance by humans. However, the mechanisms of acute and chronic action of arecoline in-vivo remain poorly understood.

To reconstruct the ceRNA biological network of cervical squamous cell carcinoma and endocervical adenocarcinoma (CESC) and to select an appropriate mRNA as a biomarker that could be used for CESC early diagnosis and prognosis evaluation. We downloaded CESC data from the TCGA public database, and statistical analysis was conducted with the R software to find out differential expressed genes encoding for lncRNAs, miRNAs, and mRNAs. The differentially expressed mRNAs (DEmRNAs) screened in the ceRNA network were analyzed for survival to find the mRNAs with significantly linked to the survival prognosis.

Theranostics is a new trend integrating diagnostic and therapeutic functions in tumour research. Theranostic nanoparticles enabling both tumour imaging and drug delivery are a promising platform for image-guided cancer therapy. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has great potential in synergy with traditional chemotherapy but faces great challenges due to hypoxia, poor targeting ability and the limited penetration depth of visible light.

The design of topographically patterned surfaces is considered to be a preferable approach for influencing cellular behavior in a controllable manner, in particular to improve the osteogenic ability of bone regeneration. In this study, we fabricated nanolamellar tantalum (Ta) surfaces with lamellar wall thicknesses of 40 and 70 nm. The cells attached to nanolamellar Ta surfaces exhibited higher protein adsorption and expression of β1 integrin, as compared to the nonstructured bulk Ta, which facilitated the initial cell attachment and spreading.

Introduction: We have previously indicated that CXCL3 was upregulated in the tissues of prostate cancer, and exogenous administration of CXCL3 played a predominant role in the tumorigenicity of prostate cancer cells. In the present study, we further explored the role and the underlying mechanism of CXCL3 overexpression in the oncogenic potential of prostate cancer in an autocrine/paracrine fashion.

Methods: CXCL3-overexpressing prostate cancer cell line PC-3 and immortalized prostate stromal cell line WPMY-1 were established by gene transfection.
