Purpose: CD133, a cancer stem cells (CSC) marker, has been reported to be associated with treatment resistance and worse survival in triple-negative breast cancer (BC). However, the clinical relevance of CD133 expression in ER-positive/HER2-negative (ER + /HER2-) BC, the most abundant subtype, remains unknown.
Methods: The BC cohorts from the Molecular Taxonomy of Breast Cancer International Consortium (METABRIC, n = 1904) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA, n = 1065) were used to obtain biological variables and gene expression data.

Colon cancer stem cells (CSC) identified by cell surface markers CD133, CD24, and CD44, have been shown to be involved with tumor formation, chemotherapy resistance, and the progression of metastatic disease. Using an translational approach, we hypothesize that a combination of these CSC markers has prognostic value in a large cohort of patients with colorectal cancer. Clinicopathologic and RNA expression data from a total of 594 colorectal cancer (CRC) patients from TCGA were analyzed.

We hypothesized that immunofunctional phenotyping that represent the malfunction of the CIC is clinically relevant in breast cancer (BC). Total of 2979 BC cases; 1075 from TCGA cohort, 1904 from METABRIC cohort were analyzed.

The clinicopathological and transcriptomic data from 2256 patients with breast cancer were obtained based on three cohorts: The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), GSE25066, and a study by Yau et al. For the current study, we defined the adipocyte, which is calculated by utilizing a computational algorithm, xCell, as "intratumoral adipocyte".

We conducted a retrospective study to identify patients who underwent CRS/HIPEC from 2001 to 2016. Patients were followed postoperatively for a minimum of two years.

Background: Indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) reduces ischemic complications by assessing mastectomy flap perfusion intraoperatively. However, outcomes of ICGA can be surgeon-dependent due to its relative novelty. We aimed to determine whether patient outcomes improved with the adoption of ICGA over time.

We sought to determine national trends in surgical and medical management of patients with resected ICC, and more specifically, the role of lymphadenectomy (LAD) and utilization of chemotherapy.
Methods: An augmented version of the National Cancer Institute's Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) cancer database registry was used to identify all surgically resected ICC patients from 2000 to 2014.
Purpose: The 21-gene recurrence score (RS) assay is increasingly utilized to predict the risk of recurrence in early stage estrogen receptor (ER)-positive breast cancer. We hypothesize that tumor grade and progesterone receptor (PR) status predict RS categorization.
Methods: We identified women between the ages of 18 and 74 years with stage I or II, ER-positive, invasive carcinoma of the breast from the Surveillance Epidemiology End-Results database from 2010 to 2013.
Purpose: In 2007, Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center (SMMC), a Level II trauma center in northeastern Minnesota, implemented a protocol for patients who presented with blunt head trauma and were receiving warfarin for anticoagulation. The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence and risk factors of early delayed, warfarin-associated intracranial hemorrhage (ICH).

The utility of RS for rarer histologic subtypes of breast cancer is uncertain.
Objective: - To determine the distribution of RS among various histologic subtypes using a population database.
Oncolytic Adenoviruses (OAds) are one of the most promising anti-cancer agents that can induce cancer specific cell death. Recently, we generated infectivity-selective OAd, and the resultant OAd tumor-specific binding shows strong efficacy and mitigates toxicity. In this study, we applied this strategy based on adenovirus library screening system for generation of CD133-targeted OAd, and examined their oncolytic activity against colorectal cancer (CRC) and .

The role of the 21-gene Recurrence Score (RS) has not been clearly defined for ILC. We sought to determine the prognostic value of RS and the impact of adjuvant chemotherapy on long-term survival in patients with ILC.

The myriads of advantages of using adenovirus include targeted specificity upon infection and selective replication, which lead to localized viral burst, exponential spread of OAds, and antitumor effect. OAds can also induce a strong immune reaction due to the massive release of tumor antigens upon cytolysis and the presence of viral antigens.

The objective of the current study was to compare the relative impact of adjuvant chemotherapy on the survival of patients with ILC versus those with IDC.
Methods: Women with estrogen receptor (ER)-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 1 (HER2) -negative, stage I/II IDC and ILC who received endocrine therapy were identified from the 2000 to 2014 California Cancer Registry.
Mutations in p53 and RAS potently cooperate in oncogenic transformation, and correspondingly, these genetic alterations frequently coexist in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) and other human cancers. Previously, we identified a set of genes synergistically activated by combined RAS and p53 mutations as frequent downstream mediators of tumorigenesis. Here, we show that the synergistically activated gene Plac8 is critical for pancreatic cancer growth.

The incidence of this disease is increasing, possibly related to increased inflammatory liver diseases such as viral hepatitis and steatohepatitis (commonly called "fatty liver"), induced by obesity, diabetes, and other metabolic derangements. Its prognosis is generally poor with early metastasis and presently there are limited effective treatments.

Preclinical studies of the etiology and treatment of this disease are hampered by the relatively small number of available IHCC cell lines or genetically faithful animal models. Here we report the development of a genetically engineered mouse model of IHCC that incorporates two of the most common mutations in human IHCC, activating mutations of Kras (Kras(G12D)) and deletion of p53.

Adaptive responses to immune challenge are based on the expression of a single species of antigen receptor per cell; and in B cells, this is mediated in part by allelic exclusion at the Ig heavy (H) chain locus. How allelic exclusion is regulated is unclear; we considered that sharks, the oldest vertebrates possessing the Ig/TCR-based immune system, would yield insights not previously approachable and reveal the primordial basis of the regulation of allelic exclusion.

This is a gene arrangement ancestral to the complex IgH locus that exists in all other vertebrate classes. To understand the molecular evolution of this system, we studied the nurse shark, which has relatively fewer loci, and characterized the IgH isotypes for organization, functionality, and the somatic diversification mechanisms that act upon them.
