Gastric cancer with peritoneal dissemination remains a significant clinical challenge due to its poor prognosis and difficulty in early detection. This study introduces a multimodal artificial intelligence-based risk stratification assessment (RSA) model, integrating radiomic and clinical data to predict peritoneal lavage cytology-positive (GC-CY1) in gastric cancer patients. The RSA model is trained and validated across retrospective, external, and prospective cohorts.

Hypertension (HT) is a prevalent medical condition showing an increasing incidence rate in various populations over recent years. Long-term hypertension increases the risk of the occurrence of hypertensive nephropathy (HTN), which is also a health-threatening disorder. Given that very little is known about the pathogenesis of HTN, this study was designed to identify disease biomarkers, which enable early diagnosis of the disease, through the utilization of high-throughput untargeted metabolomics strategies.

Psychogenic erectile dysfunction (pED) is often accompanied by abnormal brain activities. This study aimed to develop an automaticclassifier to distinguish pED from healthy controls (HCs) by identified brain-basedcharacteristics. Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging data were acquired from 45 pED patients and 43 HCs.

Background: In China, stroke is the primary cause of adult death and disability. Because of the increased rate of blood vessel reperfusion, it is important to prevent cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury, in which glutamate (Glu) excitotoxicity plays a critical role. The most important Glu transporter, GLT-1, is essential for the regulation of Glu, which is dependent on Na-K-ATPase (NKA)-induced ion concentration gradient differences.

The study presents a transcriptomics-based liquid biopsy approach for early recurrence detection in locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC). Four mRNA biomarkers (AGTR1, DNER, EPHA7, and SUSD5) linked to recurrence are identified through transcriptomic data analysis. A Risk Stratification Assessment (RSA) model combining these biomarkers with clinical features showed superior predictive accuracy for postoperative recurrence, with AUCs of 0.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have emerged as key regulators of cancer occurrence and progression, as well as promising biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and prognosis. However, the potential mechanisms of circRNAs implicated in lymph node (LN) metastasis of gastric cancer remain unclear. Herein, we identify a novel N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modified circRNA, circPAK2, which is significantly upregulated in gastric cancer tissues and metastatic LN tissues.

Article Synopsis
  • The study developed a six-gene expression biomarker panel to improve early detection and risk assessment of peritoneal recurrence and micrometastasis in locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC).
  • Using advanced transcriptome profiling and bioinformatics, the panel was validated with both tissue and liquid biopsy samples across multiple clinical cohorts.
  • The model showed high predictive accuracy (AUC over 0.960) for identifying recurrence and micrometastasis, highlighting its potential in guiding personalized treatment strategies in precision oncology.

Article Synopsis
  • Current cancer treatments, particularly for advanced cases, are limited and often unsatisfactory.
  • Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) represent a significant advancement in cancer therapy by activating immune cells but have low response rates and resistance issues.
  • There is a growing interest in circular RNAs (circRNAs) for their potential role in influencing immune checkpoints and the tumor immune microenvironment, which could enhance the efficacy of ICIs.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an unspecific colorectal inflammation associated with macrophages overactivation. Therefore, macrophage-targeted treatment has been considered a promising strategy for UC therapy. Epoxymicheliolide (EMCL) is a compound from Aucklandia lappa Decne, a TCM for treating gastrointestinal inflammatory diseases.

Tufa barrages play an important role in fluviatile tufa ecosystems and sedimentary records. Quantifying the height of tufa barrage is significant for understanding the evolution and development of the Holocene tufa barrage systems. However, for submerged tufa barrages, there is no low-cost non-contact method to retrieve barrage height.

Article Synopsis
  • Pyocyanin (PYO), a key factor from the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa, can induce autophagy in macrophages, a process which is important for how pathogens interact with host cells.
  • The study suggests that this autophagy is linked to changes in histone acetylation, specifically the increase of HMGN2 acetylation (HMGN2ac) and the decrease of H3K27 acetylation (H3K27ac).
  • Overall, the findings indicate that HMGN2ac and H3K27ac play significant roles in regulating the transcription of Ulk1, which is involved in the autophagy process in response to PYO.

Glutamate excitotoxicity in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion is an important cause of neurological damage. The aim of this study was to investigate the mechanism of Na+, K+-ATPase (NKA) involved in l ow concentration of ouabain (Oua, activating NKA)-induced protection of rat cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury. The 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining and neurological deficit scores (NDS) were performed to evaluate rat cerebral injury degree respectively at 2 h, 6 h, 1 d and 3 d after reperfusion of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) 2 h in rats.

Macrophages play critical roles in the first-line immune defense against airway infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA). The redox-active phenazine-pyocyanin (PCN), as one of the most essential virulence factors, facilities PA-related infection via a wide spectrum of cellular oxidative damages. However, little is known for PCN cytotoxicity in macrophages.
