Exosomes, extracellular vesicles with diameters ranging from 30 to 150 nm, are widely present in various body fluids. Recently, microRNAs (miRNAs) have been identified in exosomes, the biogenesis, release, and uptake of which may involve the endosomal sorting complex required for transport (ESCRT complex) and relevant proteins. After release, exosomes are taken up by neighboring or distant cells, and the miRNAs contained within modulate such processes as interfering with tumor immunity and the microenvironment, possibly facilitating tumor growth, invasion, metastasis, angiogenesis and drug resistance.

Methods: Three hundred patients with colorectal cancer who underwent curative resection in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University between February 2014 and May 2016 were included. Patients were classified into open surgery group, laparoscopic surgery group, and robot-assisted group.
Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) has been found to be associated with an increased risk for chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, the relationship between insulin resistance (IR), which is believed to play a central role in the pathogenesis of MetS, and CKD is still unclear in Chinese adults and needs further investigation.
Methods: This 3-year follow-up study included 3237 middle-aged and elderly Chinese without CKD at baseline.
MicroRNAs as a novel class of endogenous small non-coding RNAs, modulate negative gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. Our previous work has demonstrated that miR-29a reduces PTEN expression by directly targeting the 3'-UTRs (untranslated regions) of its mRNA, thus promoting neurite outgrowth. To further confirm the role of miR-29a in the recovery of SCI and its potential mechanisms, a recombinant lentiviral vector was used to promote miR-29a expression in the injured spinal cord.

Traditionally, miRNAs exert their biological function mainly through the inhibition of translation via the induction of target RNA transcript degradation. lncRNAs and circRNAs were once considered to have no potential to code proteins.

Mps One binder 1 (MOB1) is a core component of NDR/LATS kinase and a positive regulator of the Hippo signaling pathway. However, its role in neurite outgrowth still remains to be clarified. Here, we confirmed, for the first time, that MOB1 promoted neurite outgrowth and was involved in functional recovery after spinal cord injury (SCI) in mice.

A [100]-cut Cr:YAG crystal, with initial transmission T=40%, was used as the Q-switch to evaluate the theoretical model, and the results of the simulation were in good accordance with the experiment. In order to control timing jitter of the passively Q-switched laser, an actively Q-switched Nd:YAG laser was applied to directly bleach the [100]-cut Cr:YAG crystal.

We found that Kr, Ar, and Ne atoms can be used to switch the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) channel from 3408 nm (6p[1/2]-6s'[1/2]) to 3680 nm (5d[1/2]-6p[1/2]), while Xe and He atoms do not show such a phenomenon. This ASE channel switch is mainly ascribed to the fast transfer of 6p[1/2] → 5d[1/2].

Aims: Arteriosclerosis and arterial stiffness increasing are the basic pathophysiological changes of vascular-related diseases, and also the predictor factors of future cardiovascular events. Plasma biomarkers such as glucose, lipids, Homocysteine (Hcy), N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) have been shown to be involved the development of arteriosclerosis. The present study is a prospective observational and follow-up study of the characteristics of subclinical vascular disease detected by non-invasive methods that can predict progression of clinical overt vascular events in a Chinese population.

Exosomes secreted by tumor cells and stromal cells are critical mediators of intercellular communication in tumor microenvironments. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are selectively sorted into exosomes and can regulate cancer onset and progression in a variety of ways.

There have been few studies on miRNAs that regulate the oncogenic alterations in CRC. Here, we aim to explore the anti-cancer miRNA and the potential mechanisms by which miRNAs modulate CRC progression.

Easier recurrence and metastasis is the main cause of mortality in CRC patients, and the markers applied for diagnosis and treatment of CRC is still urgently needed to early diagnose and evaluate therapeutic effect. Long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) is a class of noncoding RNA that the length is more than 200 nucleotides.

The aim of this prospective longitudinal study was to evaluate changes in carotid intima-media thickness (c-IMT) and explore the association of cardiovascular risk factors and the carotid intima thickness in adults with hypertension using standardized methods. We used data from a subgroup of Beijing Vascular Disease Patients Evaluation Study (BEST), a population-based study of community-dwelling adults.

Methods: In all, 321 cases of T1-stage CRC were selected from 10132 patients with CRC who received surgical therapy in six large-scale hospitals in China and were retrospectively analyzed. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to analyze the risk factors for lymphatic metastasis.
The failure of neuronal proliferation and differentiation is a major obstacle for neural repair and regeneration after traumatic central nervous system (CNS) injury. PTEN acts as an intrinsic brake on the neuronal cells, but its roles and mechanism still remain to be clarified. Herein, for the first time we confirmed that PTEN had a dual effect on the neuronal cells in vitro.

Also, growing evidence indicates that the high-level miR-29a promotes the neurite outgrowth by decreasing PTEN (phosphatase and tensin homologue deleted on chromosome 10). Results show that the expression of miR-29a increases but the PTEN decreases during transfecting the N2a cells with the YAP plasmid.
