High temperature stress leads to a dramatic reduction of both the anthocyanin concentration and the appearance quality of colored potatoes. However, it remains uncertain if the high temperature impacts potato tuber skin coloring through only the aerial or belowground parts of the plant, or through their interaction; and it's underlying reason is still unclear. In this study, the red-skin cultivar Qingshu9 (Qs9) was exposed to the high-temperature (30 °C) treatment on the belowground part alone (BH), aerial part alone (AH) and entire plant (EH), and the normal-temperature treatment on entire plant (EN) as control.

Through a comprehensive examination of pyroptosis-related differential expressed genes (PRDEGs), this work investigates the molecular complexities of spontaneous preterm birth (SPTB), also known as premature delivery, before the due date. Through the process of merging and correcting batch effects in the GSE120480 and GSE73714 datasets, we were able to identify 36 PRDEGs that exhibited significant expression differentiation in SPTB. Through functional enrichment and pathway analysis, their importance in amino acid transport and cytokine receptor interaction has been highlighted.

Micro-absorption spectroscopy is a useful tool for studying the biological characteristics of single cells. However, the weak spectral signal, due to low absorption caused by the tiny optical path length of the cell, makes the spectral data noisy and difficult to analyze. This paper describes a device for single-cell microspectroscopy measurement that integrates an optical fiber spectrometer and an image CCD within a microscopic system, allowing for the simultaneous acquisition of morphology information and the absorption spectrum of a single cell.

We have computationally demonstrated a new method for generating pure spin current with the photogalvanic effect (PGE) by constructing transport junctions using h-BN/graphene/h-BN van der Waals (vdW) heterostructure leads. It has been observed that the pure spin current without any accompanying charge current induced by the PGE can consistently be obtained, regardless of photon energy and polarization/helicity angle, as well as the specific type of polarization (linear, circular, or elliptical). The mechanism lies in the structural inversion symmetry and real space spin polarization antisymmetry of the junctions.

Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the most common type of ovarian cancer with a low rate of response to immunotherapy such as immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapy. Here, we report that nucleus accumbens-associated protein 1 (NAC1), a putative driver of EOC, has a critical role in immune evasion. We showed in murine ovarian cancer models that depleting or inhibiting tumoral NAC1 reduced the recruitment and immunosuppressive function of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) in the tumor microenvironment (TME), led to significant increases of cytotoxic tumor-infiltrating CD8+ T cells, and promoted antitumor immunity and suppressed tumor progression.

Objective: It is challenging to accurately distinguish atypical endometrial hyperplasia (AEH) and endometrial cancer (EC) under routine transvaginal ultrasonic (TVU) detection. This study aimed to develop a physiologically based pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic model (PBPK/PD) of meropenem for critically ill patients. A PBPK model of meropenem in healthy adults was established using PK-Sim software and subsequently extrapolated to critically ill patients based on anatomic and physiological parameters. Optofluidic regulation of blood microflow represents a significant method for investigating illnesses linked to abnormal changes in blood circulation. Currently, non-invasive strategies are limited to regulation within capillaries of approximately 10 μm in diameter because the adaption to blood pressure levels in the order of several hundred pascals poses a significant challenge in larger microvessels. In this study, using laser-induced microbubble formation within microvessels of the mouse auricle, we regulate blood microflow in small vessels with diameters in the tens of micrometers.

Lasers are widely applied in assisted reproductive technologies, including sperm fixation, sperm selection and intracytoplasmic sperm injections, to reduce procedure time and improve consistency and reproducibility. However, quantitative studies on laser-induced photodamage of sperm are lacking. In this study, we demonstrated that, by using optical tweezers, the kinematic parameters of freely swimming sperm are correlated with the frequency as well as the percentage of pausing duration of longitudinal rolling of the same sperm head in the optical trap.

The immunosuppressive microenvironment of cervical cancer significantly hampers the effectiveness of immunotherapy. Herein, PEGylated manganese-doped calcium sulfide nanoparticles (MCSP) were developed to effectively enhance the antitumor immune response of the cervical cancer through gas-amplified metalloimmunotherapy with dual activation of pyroptosis and STING pathway. The bioactive MCSP exhibited the ability to rapidly release Ca, Mn, and HS in response to the tumor microenvironment.
