Correlation between thrombocytopenia and adverse outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Thrombocytopenia is often associated with adverse outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis to comprehensively assess the impact of thrombocytopenia on ischemic stroke/systemic embolism, major bleeding and all-cause mortality in patients with atrial fibrillation.

Methods: Two electronic databases, PubMed and Web of Science, were systematically searched from their inception to December 1, 2023, including the studies on the correlation between atrial fibrillation patients with thrombocytopenia and adverse outcomes.

S100A4 is primarily expressed in intestinal macrophages, and promotes colonic inflammation and colitis-associated colon tumorigenesis. Smad4 is also expressed in the colon; however, it inhibits colitis-associated cancer (CAC) development. The specific role of Smad4 in S100A4 cells in CAC remains unknown.

Cost-Effectiveness Analysis of Lenvatinib plus Pembrolizumab or Everolimus as First-Line Treatment for Advanced Renal Cell Carcinoma.

Background: Recently, due to its promising efficacy against advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC), the combination therapy with lenvatinib and pembrolizumab or everolimus has been approved as a first-line treatment for patients with advanced RCC in China and the United States. However, the high costs of combination therapies, especially of those new drugs, may limit their viability as clinical treatment options. Thus, our study aimed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of using lenvatinib plus pembrolizumab or everolimus as a first-line treatment for patients with advanced RCC from the perspective of the Chinese healthcare system and US third-party payers.

There are limited data about the clinical benefits and harm of oral anticoagulants (OACs) for stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and chronic kidney disease using CKD-EPI (Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration) creatinine equation for glomerular filtration rate (GFR) estimation in nuanced GFR stratification. We conducted a retrospective study in 12 centers in China and included 9,510 patients with AF. We grouped patients into the following estimated GFR (eGFR) categories: ≥60 (n = 7,616), 45 to 59 (n = 1,139), 30 to 44 (n = 474), and <30 (n = 281) ml/min/1.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer type and the second highest mortality rate among cancers. However, the mechanisms underlying CRC progression remain to be fully understood. In this work, a recently identified mA-modified RNA reader protein Proline-rich Coiled-coil 2a (PRRC2A) is markedly upregulated in CRC, and intestinal epithelium-specific deletion of Prrc2a significantly suppressed tumor cell growth, stemness, and migratory capacity, while its overexpression promoted these behaviors.

A cellular protein, non-POU-domain-containing octamer binding protein (NONO), bound to the replication complex of Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) by directly interacting with the viral 3' UTR RNA and NS3 protein. These interactions were also identified in West Nile virus (WNV) and Zika virus (ZIKV). The infection of JEV or the expression of JEV NS3 protein in cells could induce relocation of NONO protein from the nucleus to the cytoplasm.

Regulating the interlayer SO-induced rebound of SeO in green rust coupled with iron nanoparticles for groundwater remediation.

Green rust (GR) is an interlayer anion-containing Fe(II)/Fe(III) mineral material that is versatile in removing a series of ionic contaminants in water. Taking SeO (Se(VI)) as the target contaminant, this study identified that the removal processes of Se(VI) by GR could be divided into three stages: initial rapid interlayer exchange, followed by a rebound, and finally slow removal. In addition, as the percentage of SO in GR interlayer increased, the Se(VI) removal by GR gradually decreased.

Extraction of phenolic acids and tetramethylpyrazine in Shanxi aged vinegar base on vortex-assisted liquid-liquid microextraction-hydrophobic deep eutectic solvent: COSMO-RS calculations and ANN-GA optimization.

In this study, vortex-assisted liquid-liquid microextraction (VA-LLME) based on hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents (HDES) was used to efficiently and sustainably extract five phenolic acids and tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) from Shanxi aged vinegar (SAV). The VA-LLME technique was employed to investigate the extraction mechanism of HDES with the best extraction performance for the target compounds using a conductor-like screening model for real solvents (COSMO-RS). An artificial neural network combined with a genetic algorithm (ANN-GA) was developed to optimize the extraction conditions based on single-factor and response surface methodology, while also analyzing the interactive effects on the phenolic acids and TMP in the extracted solution during the extraction phase.

To explore whether rs2073244 at PAX9 increased susceptibility for full-term low birth weight infants and whether indoors passive smoking exposure has a combined effect with rs2073244 on newborn low birth weight (LBW), a 1:2 paired case-control study of LBW newborns was conducted at Xiamen University Affiliated Women and Children's Hospital from March 2010 to October 2013. The rate of indoor passive smoking exposure in the LBW group was higher than it in the NBW group ( = 0.019).
