Background: The impact of lymph nodes (LNs) removed on the survivals of patients with stage III gastric cancer, especially on that of those who undergo the adjuvant chemotherapy as a compensation for a possibly insufficient lymphadenectomy, is still unclear.

Methods: Consecutive patients (n = 488) with stage III gastric cancer under R0 curative resection followed by adjuvant chemotherapy were analyzed. The overall survival (OS) was compared between patients with insufficient LNs removed (ILNr, <16 LNs) and sufficient LNs removed (SLNr, ≥16 LNs).

Cetuximab and panitumumab, as the highly effective antibodies targeting epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), have clinical activity in the patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). These agents have good curative efficacy, but drug resistance also exists at the same time. The effects of , , and mutations and amplification on the treatment of refractory mCRC have been elucidated and the corresponding countermeasures have been put forward.

Background: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy is a promising treatment option for potential resectable gastric cancer, but patients' responses vary. We aimed to develop and validate a radiomics score (rad_score) to predict treatment response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy and to investigate its efficacy in survival stratification.

Methods: A total of 106 patients with neoadjuvant chemotherapy before gastrectomy were included (training cohort: n = 74; validation cohort: n = 32).

Gastric duplications are the least common gastrointestinal duplications, especially in adults. Duplication cyst with an accessory pancreatic lobe is extremely rare and is even more uncommon in the setting of polysplenia. No gastric duplication after partial gastrectomy has been reported.

Aims: To establish multiparametric radiomics of rectal tumor for the preoperative prediction of lymph node (LN) metastasis.

Materials And Methods: This prospective study consisted of 115 consecutive patients with rectal carcinoma between April 2015 and April 2017. The multiparametric radiomics scores were extracted from the endorectal ultrasound (ERUS), computed tomography (CT) and shear-wave elastography (SWE) features of the rectal tumor, LN, and peripheral tissues.

We investigated the feasibility of using ultrasound colonography (USC) to visualize the healthy colon and rectum and detect colorectal polyps. Eight healthy volunteers underwent USC after standard bowel preparation. The feasibility and image quality of USC in different segments were evaluated.

Article Synopsis
  • A study compared endorectal ultrasonography (US) and shear-wave elastography (SWE) to determine which is better for staging rectal tumors before surgery, involving 70 patients with confirmed rectal adenocarcinomas or adenomas.
  • Results showed that SWE provided higher accuracy in detecting tumor stiffness, with its diagnostic concordance rate with pathologic stage at 95.7%, compared to 75.7% for endorectal US.
  • The analysis concluded that SWE is a more effective method for preoperatively staging rectal tumors, particularly highlighted by a significant area under the curve (AUC) in assessing tumor stiffness.

Objective: To explore the feasibility and safety of enteral nutrition in preoperative bowel preparation for rectal cancer patients undergoing radical operation.

Methods: Sixty rectal cancer patients undergoing selective low anterior resection were randomized into the trial group(n=30) and the control group(n=30). Patients in the trial group received clean liquid integral protein diet for 3 days before operation without mechanical bowel preparation.

Histopathological results are critical for the diagnosis and surgical decision regarding gastric cancer. However, opposite opinions from radiology and pathology can sometimes affect clinical decisions. The two cases reported in this article were both highly suspected as gastric cancer by clinical manifestations and radiologic findings, although both showed negative results in the first biopsy examination.
