Morphologic variations of the superior intercostal vein: An anatomical study with clinical applications.

This study aimed to validate and compare the anatomical variations of the superior intercostal veins, focusing on their origin, course, anastomoses, and destination. In addition, the results were compared with findings from other relevant studies. Fifty Korean and 16 Chinese adult cadavers were dissected for this study.

PPAR-γ and tollip are associated with toll-like receptors in colitis rats.

To elucidate the significance of Toll-like receptors and their negative regulating factors PPAR-γ and Tollip on the pathogenesis of colitis. Colitis model was induced by TNBS in rat. The expression of TLR2, TLR4, NF-κBp65, PPAR-γ and Tollip was examined by immunohistochemistry (IHC) and reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).

Human remains from Zhirendong, South China, and modern human emergence in East Asia.

The 2007 discovery of fragmentary human remains (two molars and an anterior mandible) at Zhirendong (Zhiren Cave) in South China provides insight in the processes involved in the establishment of modern humans in eastern Eurasia. The human remains are securely dated by U-series on overlying flowstones and a rich associated faunal sample to the initial Late Pleistocene, >100 kya. As such, they are the oldest modern human fossils in East Asia and predate by >60,000 y the oldest previously known modern human remains in the region.

Determination of sex for the 12th thoracic vertebra by morphometry of three-dimensional reconstructed vertebral models.

New cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor DFU regulates vascular endothelial growth factor expression in rheumatoid synoviocytes.

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) plays an important role in angiogenesis in rheumatoid synoviocytes. In the present study, whether DFU, a tetrasubstituted furanone initially identified as a selective inhibitor of cyclooxygenase (COX)-2, interferes with transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta-mediated induction of VEGF was determined. Fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS) isolated from the synovial tissue of patients with rheumatoid arthritis were stimulated with TGF-beta in the presence or absence of DFU, followed by RT-PCR and ELISA assays to quantify the level of VEGF transcript and its product, respectively.

[Change of eustachian tube surfactant of guinea pigs suffering from secretory otitis media].

Objective: To observe the change of surface active agents of eustachian tube of guinea pigs suffering from secretory otitis media, to explore the effects of surface active agents on secretory otitis media.

Methods: To establish the animal model of guinea pigs suffering from secretory otitis media. To analyse the changes of biochemical component and activity of eustachian tube's surfactant, meanwhile; to observe surfactant change after ectogenic surfactant treatment.
