Thromboembolic complications after bilateral knee arthroscopic surgery patients.

Deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism are rare complications after arthroscopic knee procedures. Most of the cases of thromboembolic complications reported to have involved unilateral knee arthroscopic patients; here, we report the cases of patients with bilateral knee arthroscopy. The patients were treated with anticoagulants and thrombolytics and subjected to necessary laboratory monitoring.

Adenovirus mediated BMP-13 gene transfer induces chondrogenic differentiation of murine mesenchymal progenitor cells.

Unlabelled: Chondrogenic/osteogenic differentiation of a mesenchymal progenitor stimulated by BMP-13 (CDMP-2) was studied. C3H10T1/2 cells were transduced by an adenoviral construct containing BMP-13 or BMP-2. BMP-13 supported chondrogenesis but not terminal differentiation, whereas BMP-2 stimulated endochondral ossification.

IL-4 augments anisomycin-induced p38 activation via Akt pathway in a follicular dendritic cell (FDC)-like line.

Follicular dendritic cells (FDCs) play pivotal roles in germinal center (GC) responses in secondary lymphoid follicles, and their functions are influenced by cytokines present in the GC. We investigated the functional effects of interleukin-4 (IL-4) using an established FDC-like line of HK cells. In spite of the activation of ERK1/2 and PI3K/Akt pathways by IL-4, which are implicated in the induction of cell proliferation and survival, IL-4 did not exhibit protective function on anisomycin-induced apoptosis of HK cells, but rather slightly enhanced it.
