Rhabdomyolysis (RM)-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) involves the release of large amounts of iron ions from excess myoglobin in the kidneys, which mediates the overproduction of reactive species with the onset of iron overload via the Fenton reaction, thus inducing ferroptosis and leading to renal dysfunction. Unfortunately, there are no effective treatments for AKI other than supportive care. Herein, we developed a multifunctional nanoplatform (MPD) by covalently bonding melanin nanoparticles (MP NPs) to deferoxamine.

However, accurately identifying Ardisia species at the molecular level remains a challenge due to the morphological similarities among different species, the complexity of interspecific variation, and the limited availability of genetic markers. In this study, we reported 20 chloroplast genomes of Ardisia species from China and combined them with 8 previously published chloroplast genomes to conduct a comprehensive analysis for phylogenetic relationships and adaptive evolution.

Because Zitan is an imported herbal medicine, it is not commonly used in modern medicine and known as an unusual medicinal material. The unclear original plants may affect the clinical application of this medicine.

We report herein an electrochemical desaturation and β-thiocyanation of cyclic amides under external oxidant-free conditions. This method exhibits broad functional group tolerance, excellent selectivity, mild reaction conditions and can be applied for late-stage functionalization of bioactive molecules.

In this multicenter, randomized phase 3 trial (ZGJAK016), intermediate- or high-risk primarily JAK inhibitor naïve MF patients were assigned in a 2:1 ratio to receive either gecacitinib (100 mg twice a day, BID) or HU (500 mg BID). The primary endpoint was the proportion of patients with ≥35% reduction in spleen volume (SVR35) from baseline at week 24.

This study employed a bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to explore the interrelation between obesity-associated body metrics: specifically body mass index (BMI), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), body fat percentage (BFP), whole-body fat percentage (WHF), and 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) levels. Instrumental variables for BMI, WHR, BFP, whole body fat mass (WFM), and 25(OH)D were carefully selected based on predefined thresholds.

Accurate quantification of neurotoxic methylmercury (MeHg) in environmental samples is crucial for exploring its formation, behaviors, and risks. Here, we developed and optimized an alkaline digestion-manual purge trap/gas chromatography-cold atomic fluorescence spectrometry (GC-CVAFS) method for the quantification of MeHg in solid matrix samples such as sediments, soils or sedimentary rocks. The alkaline digestion method yielded higher recoveries of MeHg than the acid extraction method.

In this study, we investigated the effect of a representative non-biodegradable MP, polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and a biodegradable MP, polylactic acid (PLA), on the nitrogen removal performance of conventional anoxic/aerobic (A/O) process. The NH-N removal efficiencies were suppressed to 91.

In this study, we designed and synthesized a series of 1,4-DHP derivatives by structure-based strategy, 43 was documented to be a potent SIRT3 activator and exhibited profound anti-proliferative activity in BT-549 and MDA-MB-231 cells with low toxicity over normal cells. Additionally, 43 displayed the ability of direct binding to SIRT3 with a K value of 51.

Thus, identifying genetic determinants governing elemental uptake and storage is an important goal for breeding and engineering biomass feedstocks with improved performance. In this study, we coupled high-throughput ionome characterization of leaf tissues with high-resolution genome-wide association studies (GWAS) to uncover genetic loci that modulate ionomic composition in leaves of poplar ().

However, the deactivation and detachment of active sites in powder electrocatalysts reported hitherto present significant challenges to achieving high efficiency and sustainability in energy-saving hydrogen production. Herein, a self-supported bimetallic nickel manganese metal-organic framework (NiMn-MOF) nanosheet and its derived heterostructure composed of NiMn-MOF decorated with ultrafine Pt nanocrystals (Pt/NiMn-MOF) are rationally designed.

Starch-based hydrogels, characterized by their three-dimensional network structures, are increasingly explored for their biodegradability, low cost, and abundance of modifiable hydroxyl groups. However, a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms behind the formation and property modulation of these hydrogels has not been systematically described. Drawing from literature of the past decade, this review provides insights into designing multifunctional starch-based hydrogels through various gelation mechanism, crosslinking strategies, and second-network structure.

BRCA1/BRCA2-containing complex subunit 3 (BRCC3) serves as a deubiquitinating enzyme contributing to multiple inflammation-related disorders. However, the role of BRCC3 in modulating airway inflammation in asthma has not been investigated. This study aimed to examine the role of BRCC3 in airway inflammation using a mouse model of asthma induced by ovalbumin (OVA).

Since 2013, the air quality in China has improved dramatically. However, the regulatory standard as defined in air quality index (AQI) is still the one introduced in 2012. To evaluate the gap between reality and regulation, we study the effectiveness of China's AQI from the perspective of air pollution alert, a system that reflects AQI standard directly.
