A rapid and high-throughput method using both GC-MS/MS and UPLC-Q-Orbitrap systems was applied for pesticide multi-residues analysis in food samples. Strategies based on QuEChERs extraction, intelligent data mining tools with in-house/online database, and in-silico fragment prediction system were introduced to screen and identify target/untargeted features. Full-scan combined with data-independent-acquisition modes was evaluated in real sample in an attempt to improve and facilitate the pesticide screening process, of which the results showed that FS-vDIA provided equal detection rate (100%) and far less false positive results than FS-AIF did.

A sequencing batch reactor (SBR) and a ceramic membrane bioreactor (CMBR) were used in conjunction (SBR+CMBR) to treat high-concentration oil and gas field wastewater (HCOGW) from the China National Offshore Oil Corporation Zhanjiang Branch (Zhanjiang, Guangdong, China). The chemical oxygen demand (COD) and the oil concentrations in the wastewater were 20,000-76,000 and 600-2200 mg/L, respectively. After the SBR+CMBR process, the effluent COD and oil content values were less than 250 mg/L and 2 mg/L, respectively, which met the third level of the Integrated Wastewater Discharge Standards of China (GB8978-1996).

Hepatic steatosis and oxidative stress are considered to be the sequential steps in the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). We previously found that catalpol, an iridoid glucoside extracted from the root of Romania glutinosa L, protected against diabetes-induced hepatic oxidative stress. Here, we found that the increased expression of p66shc was observed in NAFLD models and catalpol could inhibit p66shc expression to ameliorate NAFLD effectively.

TRIM21 mediates the ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation of Snail, a master regulator of the epithelial to mesenchymal transition, and suppresses the migration and invasion of breast cancer cells. R64Q, a breast cancer-associated TRIM21 mutation, abolishes the interaction between TRIM21 and Snail, and the TRIM21-mediated ubiquitination and degradation of Snail. More importantly, comparing to the xenograft tumors derived from MDA-MB-231 cells with the wild-type TRIM21, xenograft tumors derived from MDA-MB-231 cells with the R64Q mutated TRIM21 showed greatly increased infiltration into neighboring muscle fibers.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a severe progressive muscle disease caused by mutations in the dystrophin gene, which ultimately leads to the exhaustion of muscle progenitor cells. Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats/CRISPR-associated 9 (CRISPR/Cas9) gene editing has the potential to restore the expression of the dystrophin gene. Autologous induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs)-derived muscle progenitor cells (MPC) can replenish the stem/progenitor cell pool, repair damage, and prevent further complications in DMD without causing an immune response.

Instantaneous control over the orientation of anisotropically shaped plasmonic nanostructures allows for selective excitation of plasmon modes and enables dynamic tuning of the plasmonic properties. Herein we report the synthesis of rod-shaped magnetic/plasmonic core-shell nanocomposite particles and demonstrate the active tuning of their optical property by manipulating their orientation using an external magnetic field. We further design and construct an IR-photoelectric coupling system, which generates an output voltage depending on the extinction property of the measured nanocomposite sample.
