A Scoping Review on Clinical Research of Acupuncture Treatment for Pressure Injury.

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medical therapy that has shown effective results in the treatment of pressure injuries (PI). However, current clinical research methodologies have certain flaws that impact the evaluation of efficacy. This review aims to summarize the characteristics of existing clinical studies on acupuncture treatment for PI and analyze the current research status.

Acupoint catgut embedding (ACE) is a safe and effective method for treating obesity. However, how it modulates intestinal flora and adiponectin remains unclear. We employed 16s rRNA sequencing technology to investigate ACE induced changes in intestinal flora and its association with adiponectin in subjects who received real ( = 41) and Sham ( = 41) stimulation.

Charge Variants Characterization of Co-Formulated Antibodies by Three-Dimensional Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry.

Co-formulated antibodies can bring clinical benefits to patients by combining two or more antibodies in a single dosage form. However, the quality analysis of co-formulated antibodies raises additional challenges, compared to individual antibodies, due to the need for accurate analysis of multiple antibodies in one solution. It is extremely difficult to effectively separate the charge variants of the two co-formulated antibodies using one ion exchange chromatography (IEC) method because of their similar characteristics.

Interaction of a non-axisymmetric artificial single spatula with rough surfaces.

Hair-like attachment structures are frequently used by animals to create stable contact with rough surfaces. Previous studies focused primarily on axisymmetric biomimetic models of artificial spatulas, such as those with a mushroom-shaped and cylinder-shaped geometry, in order to simulate the so-called gecko effect. Here, two geometric prototypes of artificial adhesive structures with non-axisymmetric properties were designed.

Wax Protrusions on Anti-Adhesive Plant Surfaces and Their Interactions with Insect Adhesive Pads: A Mechanical Interpretation.

Insect attachment devices enhance adhesion to complex-geometry substrates by increasing the real contact area. In nature, insects mainly interact with plant surfaces that are often covered by 3D wax structures. Here, we describe, discuss, and give a mechanical interpretation of plant waxes and the possible fracture mechanisms of these wax structures during their interactions with the adhesive pads of insects.

The casual relationship between autoimmune diseases and multiple myeloma: a Mendelian randomization study.

Observational studies showed possible associations between systemic lupus erythematosus and multiple myeloma. However, whether there is a casual relationship between different types of autoimmune diseases (type 1 diabetes mellitus, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, primary biliary cirrhosis, and juvenile idiopathic arthritis) and multiple myeloma (MM) is not well known. Charge variants, as an important quality attribute of mAbs, must be comprehensively characterized and monitored during development. However, due to their complex structure, the characterization of charge variants is challenging, labor-intensive, and time-consuming when using traditional approaches. This work combines on-line and off-line 2D-LC-MS to comprehensively characterize mAb charge variants and quickly offer precise instructions for process development.

Introduction: Temozolomide (TMZ) induces intestinal mucosa injury that cannot be fully counteracted by supportive treatment. Probiotics regulate gut microbial composition and the host immune system and may alleviate this side effect. We aimed to investigate the potential and mechanism of GG (LGG) in relieving intestinal mucosal injury induced by TMZ.

Exploration of acupuncture therapy in the treatment of MCI patients with the ApoE ε4 gene based on the brain-gut axis theory.

Background: Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is the predementia phase of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The intestinal microbiome is altered in MCI and AD, and apolipoprotein E (ApoE) ε4 gene polymorphism is a risk factor for the progression of MCI to AD. This study aims to investigate the improvement in cognitive function of MCI patients with and without ApoE ε4 due to acupuncture and the changes in gut microbiota community composition and abundance in MCI.

It is a common practice in the atomic force microscopy (AFM)-based studies of living cells to differentiate them by values of the elastic (Young's) modulus, which is supposed to be an effective characteristic of the mechanical properties of a cell as a heterogeneous matter. The elastic response of a cell to AFM indentation is known to be affected by a relative distance from an AFM probe to a solid support on to which the cell is cultured. Besides this so-called bottom effect, AFM measurements may carry significant information regarding the effect of molecular brushes covering living cells.

A time-series study was conducted to examine relationships between six different criteria air pollutants (SO, NO, PM, PM, CO, and O) and daily NCVs for vertigo in Wuhan, China, from January 1st, 2017 to November 30th, 2019. Establishment and validation of PTE prediction model in patients with cerebral contusion.

Post-traumatic epilepsy (PTE) is an important cause of poor prognosis in patients with cerebral contusions. The primary purpose of this study is to evaluate the high-risk factors of PTE by summarizing and analyzing the baseline data, laboratory examination, and imaging features of patients with a cerebral contusion, and then developing a Nomogram prediction model and validating it. This study included 457 patients diagnosed with cerebral contusion who met the inclusion criteria from November 2016 to November 2019 at the Qinghai Provincial People's Hospital.

Combination treatment of acupoint therapy and conventional medication for motor function of Parkinson's disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Combination treatment with acupoint therapy and conventional medication (CM) has been proposed as a strategy that could improve motor dysfunction in Parkinson's disease (PD). We performed this systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the effects of this combination treatment on motor function in patients with PD.

Methods: We searched randomized controlled trials (RCTs) from eight databases, comparing combined acupoint therapy and CM and CM (alone or with sham interventions).

Development and validation of chest CT-based imaging biomarkers for early stage COVID-19 screening.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is currently a global pandemic, and early screening is one of the key factors for COVID-19 control and treatment. Here, we developed and validated chest CT-based imaging biomarkers for COVID-19 patient screening from two independent hospitals with 419 patients. We identified the vasculature-like signals from CT images and found that, compared to healthy and community acquired pneumonia (CAP) patients, COVID-19 patients display a significantly higher abundance of these signals.

Develop a diagnostic tool for dementia using machine learning and non-imaging features.

Background: Early identification of Alzheimer's disease or mild cognitive impairment can help guide direct prevention and supportive treatments, improve outcomes, and reduce medical costs. Existing advanced diagnostic tools are mostly based on neuroimaging and suffer from certain problems in cost, reliability, repeatability, accessibility, ease of use, and clinical integration. To address these problems, we developed, evaluated, and implemented an early diagnostic tool using machine learning and non-imaging factors.

[Efficacy prediction of acupuncture in treatment of moderate-to-severe allergic rhinitis based on miRNA expression profile].

Objective: To investigate the differential characteristics of plasma mircoRNA (miRNA) expression profile in the patients of moderate-to-severe allergic rhinitis treated with acupuncture so as to provide an index for screening the potential biomarkers of acupuncture efficacy.

Methods: Of 33 patients of moderate-to-severe allergic rhinitis underwent acupuncture, the superior efficacy patients (superior efficacy group, 3 cases) and the inferior efficacy patients (inferior efficacy group, 3 cases) were selected. Using human miRNA microarray technology, the differences in plasma miRNA expression before and after treatment were analyzed in the patients of two groups.
