Ischemic stroke triggers a cascade of metabolic and inflammatory events leading to neuronal death, particularly in the hippocampus. Here, we investigate the role of lactate metabolism in ischemic resistance using LDHB-deficient mice, which exhibit impaired lactate utilization. Contrary to expectations of severe neuronal damage due to metabolic defects, LDHB-deficient mice displayed significantly increased neuronal survival following ischemic insult.

Importance: Recently, 6 randomized clinical trials-RESCUE-Japan-LIMIT (Recovery by Endovascular Salvage for Cerebral Ultra-Acute Embolism-Japan Large Ischemic Core Trial), ANGEL-ASPECT (Trial of Endovascular Therapy for Acute Ischemic Stroke With Large Infarct), SELECT2 (Trial of Endovascular Thrombectomy for Large Ischemic Strokes), TESLA (Thrombectomy for Emergent Salvage of Large Anterior Circulation Ischemic Stroke), TENSION (Endovascular Thrombectomy for Acute Ischemic Stroke With Established Large Infarct), and LASTE (Large Stroke Therapy Evaluation)-have concluded their investigations on the efficacy and safety of endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) for the treatment of patients with ischemic stroke, anterior-circulation large vessel occlusions, and large areas of ischemic changes defined as an Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score (ASPECTS) of 5 or less. Overall, the results appeared to be positive, with 5 of the 6 trials meeting their primary efficacy end point, and 1 trial that was a near miss. However, questions remain regarding how these trial results should be interpreted and incorporated into routine clinical practice.

Distal medium vessel occlusions (DMVOs) are thought to cause as many as 25% to 40% of all acute ischemic strokes and may result in substantial disability amongst survivors. Although intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) is more effective for distal than proximal vessel occlusions, the overall efficacy of IVT remains limited in DMVO with less than 50% of patients achieving reperfusion and about 1/3 to 1/4 of the patients failing to achieve functional independence. Data regarding mechanical thrombectomy (MT) among these patients remains limited.

Porous 2D materials with high conductivity and large surface area have been proposed for potential electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials in future mobility and wearable applications to prevent signal noise, transmission inaccuracy, system malfunction, and health hazards. Here, we report on the synthesis of lightweight and flexible flash-induced porous graphene (FPG) with excellent EMI shielding performance. The broad spectrum of pulsed flashlight induces photo-chemical and photo-thermal reactions in polyimide films, forming 5 × 10 cm-size porous graphene with a hollow pillar structure in a few milliseconds.

However, a covariate correlation between these factors may not reflect the correct outcome variable.
