Diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of monkeypox in children: an experts' consensus statement.

Monkeypox is a zoonotic disease. Since the first human monkeypox case was detected in 1970, it has been prevalent in some countries in central and western Africa. Since May 2022, monkeypox cases have been reported in more than 96 non-endemic countries and regions worldwide.

Dose-individualization Efficiently Maintains Sufficient Exposure to Methotrexate without Additional Toxicity in High-dose Methotrexate Regimens for Pediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

Objective: Methotrexate (MTX) can be safely administered to most patients but may cause severe toxicity in others. This study aimed to summarize the characteristics of high-dose methotrexate (HD-MTX) chemotherapy and to evaluate whether the modified dose-adjustment program was able to improve the maintenance of sufficient MTX exposure levels while minimizing toxicities.

Methods: We evaluated 1172 cycles of high-dose MTX chemotherapy from 294 patients who were treated according to the CCCG-ALL-2015 protocol (clinical trial number: ChiCTR-IPR-14005706) and analyzed the data of actual MTX dosage, MTX concentration, toxicity, and prognosis.

A New Immunosuppressive Therapy for Very Severe Aplastic Anemia in Children with Autoantibodies.

Objective: At present, a number of very severe aplastic anemia (VSAA) patients cannot receive hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) or standard immunosuppressive therapy (IST) due to the high cost of therapy, shortage of sibling donors, and lack of resources to support the HSCT. In addition, some VSAA patients with autoantibodies have no life-threatening infections or bleeding at the time of initial diagnosis. Considering the disease condition, economics and other factors, the present study designed a new and relatively mild treatment strategy: cyclosporine A plus pulsed high-dose prednisone (CsA+HDP).

[Effect of Huaier Aqueous Extract Combined with Routine Chemo-therapeutic Drugs on Human Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Cells Nalm-6 and Sup-B15].

Objective: To investigate the proliferation inhibition and pro-apoptotic effect of Huaier aqueous extract combined with routine chemotherapeutic drugs including Vincristine (VCR), Daunorubicin (DNR), L-aspartase (L-Asp) on human acute lymphoblastic leukemia cell lines Nalm-6 and Sup-B15.

Methods: Nalm-6 and Sup-B15 cell lines were treated with different concentrations of Huaier aqueous extract and chemotherapeutics including VCR, DNR, L-Asp alone or in combination for 48 h, and the growth inhibitory effect and IC values (the half maximal inhibitory concentration) were detected by CCK-8. Jin's formula was used to estimated the synergistic effect of these combinations.

Clinical and transmission dynamics characteristics of 406 children with coronavirus disease 2019 in China: A review.

Objective: Chinese pediatricians are working on the front line to fight COVID-19. They have published a great amount of first-hand clinical data. Collecting their data and forming a large sample for analysis is more conducive to the recognition, prevention and treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 in children.

Huai Qi Huang-induced Apoptosis via Down-regulating PRKCH and Inhibiting RAF/MEK/ERK Pathway in Ph Leukemia Cells.

Imatinib mesylate (IM) is the first-line treatment for Philadelphia (Ph) chromosomal positive leukemia by inhibiting phosphorylation of substrates via binding to the ABL kinase domain. Because of the drug resistance, side effects and the high cost of IM, it is necessary to find anti-cancer drugs with relatively low toxicity and cost, and enhanced efficacy, such as traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs). As one of TCMs, Huai Qi Huang (HQH) was chosen to treat BV173 and K562 cells.

Updated diagnosis, treatment and prevention of COVID-19 in children: experts' consensus statement (condensed version of the second edition).

In the early February, 2020, we called up an experts' committee with more than 30 Chinese experts from 11 national medical academic organizations to formulate the first edition of consensus statement on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in children, which has been published in this journal. With accumulated experiences in the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19 in children, we have updated the consensus statement and released the second edition recently. The current version in English is a condensed version of the second edition of consensus statement on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of COVID-19 in children.

Clinical Characteristics of Children with Coronavirus Disease 2019 in Hubei, China.

Since December 2019, COVID-19 has occurred unexpectedly and emerged as a health problem worldwide. Despite the rapidly increasing number of cases in subsequent weeks, the clinical characteristics of pediatric cases are rarely described. A cross-sectional multicenter study was carried out in 10 hospitals across Hubei province.

[Effect of Huai Qi Huang on asthma in rats and the mechanism research].

Objective: To study the role and mechanism of action of Huai Qi Huang (HQH) in the rat model of asthma.

Methods: Forty Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into a control group, an asthma model group, a budesonide group, and an HQH group, with 10 rats in each group. A rat model of asthma was established by ovalbumin sensitization and challenge.

[Pure red cell aplasia in children: a clinical analysis of 16 cases].

Objective: To study the clinical features, treatment, and prognosis of pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) in children.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed for the clinical data of 16 children with PRCA. The outcome and prognosis of patients treated with prednisone combined with Huaiqihuang granules versus prednisone alone were evaluated.

Outcome of children with newly diagnosed acute lymphoblastic leukemia treated with CCLG-ALL 2008: The first nation-wide prospective multicenter study in China.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common malignancy among children. The trial Chinese Children Leukemia Group (CCLG)-ALL 2008 was a prospective clinical trial designed to improve treatment outcome of childhood ALL through the first nation-wide collaborative study in China. Totally 2231 patients were recruited from ten tertiary hospitals in eight cities.

Trisomy 21 with t(5; 11) chromosomal translocation as new unfavorable cytogenetic abnormalities in pediatric acute myeloid leukemia type M2: One case report of nine-year follow-up and literature review.

We report one case of pediatric acute myeloid leukemia type 2 (AML-M2) who presented with karyotypic aberration of trisomy 21 with the t(5;11) chromosomal translocation. The patient achieved complete remission after two cycles of chemotherapy of daunorubicin, cytarabine and etoposide. Then, follow-up cytogenetic analysis from bone marrow cell cultures demonstrated a normal karyotype of 46, XY.

Behavioral intervention reduces unhealthy eating behaviors in preschool children via a behavior card approach.

Many eating behaviors form in childhood, and some unhealthy behaviors may persist into adulthood and have potential impacts on people's health. This study evaluated the effectiveness of behavioral intervention in reducing consumption of Western fast food, sweetened beverages, fried food in preschool children, and changing parents' rewarding behaviors that encourage the consumption of the unhealthy foods. The research was a cluster randomized trial of seven kindergartens, involving 1138 children aged 3-6 years and their parents in Beijing, China.

Effects of dendritic cell-activated and cytokine-induced killer cell therapy on 22 children with acute myeloid leukemia after chemotherapy.

The efficiency of dendritic cell-activated and cytokine-induced killer cell (DC-CIK) therapy on children with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) after chemotherapy was investigated. Mononuclear cells were collected from children achieving complete remission after chemotherapy, cultured in vitro and transfused back into the same patient. Interleukin-2 (IL-2) was injected subcutaneously every other day 10 times at the dose of 1 × 10(6) units.

Effect of high-fat diet on cholesterol metabolism in rats and its association with Na⁺/K⁺-ATPase/Src/pERK signaling pathway.

Abnormal cholesterol metabolism is associated with an elevated risk of developing atherosclerosis, hypertension, and diabetes etc. Na(+)/K(+)-ATPase was found to regulate cholesterol synthesis, distribution and trafficking. This study aimed to examine the effect of high-fat diet on cholesterol metabolism in rats and the role of Na(+)/K(+)-ATPase/Src/ERK signaling pathway in the process.

[Clinical characteristics of childhood leukemia with EVI1 gene and BCR/ABL gene co-expression].

Objective: To study the clinical characteristics of ecotopic viral integration site-1 (EVI1) and BCR/ABL positive childhood leukemia.

Methods: Clinical data of four children with EVI1 and BCR/ABL positive leukemia and eight children with BCR/ABL positive but EVI1 negative chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) were retrospectively analyzed.

Results: In the four children with EVI1 and BCR/ABL positive leukemia, two were initially diagnosed with chronic phase of CML, one with accelerated phase of CML and one with high-risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

[Clinical and biological characteristics of childhood acute myeloid leukemia with EVI1 gene positive expression].

Objective: To study the expression of ecotropic viral integration site (EVI1) gene in childhood acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and the clinical features of EVI1-positive children with AML.

Methods: The clinical data of EVI1-positive children with AML were collected and analyzed. RT-PCR and real-time quantitative PCR were used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of expression of EVI1.

A single-site retrospective study of pediatric arterial ischemic stroke etiology, clinical presentation, and radiologic features.

Background: Stroke occurs upon obstruction of cerebral blood circulation and is clinically characterized by sudden onset symptoms. Advanced age is the main risk factor of stroke, but cases of pediatric stroke have been rarely reported. This study aimed to determine the etiology, clinical presentation, and radiologic features of neurological deficit for pediatric arterial ischemic stroke (PAIS).

Retrospective analysis of 119 cases of pediatric acute promyelocytic leukemia: Comparisons of four treatment regimes.

Clinical trials have demonstrated that pediatric acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is highly curable. Small-scale studies have reported on the treatment of APL using one or two treatment regimes. Here, we report a multiple center-based study of 119 cases of pediatric APL treated with four regimes based on all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA).

T-Bet Mediated Anti-Neoplastic Effects of Dendritic Cell-Cytokine Induced Killer Cells in vitro.

Objective: To investigate the molecular mechanism underlying T-bet mediated anti-neoplastic effects of cytokine induced killer (CIK) cells.

Methods: Lymphocytes isolated from peripheral blood of leukemic children were induced with γ- interferon (IFN-γ), CD3McAb and interluki-2 (IL-2), and co-cultured with dendritic cells (DCs) to generate DC-CIK cells. The morphology and immunophenotype of these cells were determined by a light microscopy and flow cytometry, respectively.

[Comparisons of clinical features of chronic aplastic anemia and myelodysplastic syndrome in children].

Objective: This study compared the differences in clinical features between chronic aplastic anemia (CAA) and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) in children in order to provide a basis for the differential diagnosis of the two diseases.

Methods: A retrospective study of 23 cases of CAA and 9 cases of MDS from September 2007 to September 2010 was performed. The clinical data including routine blood test results, reticulocyte counts, serum lactate dehydrogenase level, serum ferritin level, cytological examination of bone marrow, bone marrow CD34+ cell counts, bone marrow chromosome and FISH test results were compared between the CAA and MDS groups.
