Early Neurodevelopmental Assessments of Neonates Discharged From the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: A Physiatrist's Perspective.

The survival rate of children admitted in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) after birth is on the increase; hence, proper evaluation and care of their neurodevelopment has become an important issue. Neurodevelopmental assessments of individual domains regarding motor, language, cognition, and sensory perception are crucial in planning prompt interventions for neonates requiring immediate support and rehabilitation treatment. These assessments are essential for identifying areas of weakness and designing targeted interventions to improve future functional outcomes and the quality of lives for both the infants and their families.

Fetal lung fibroblasts contribute dynamic infrastructure for the developing lung. These cells undergo dynamic mechanical transitions, including cyclic stretch and spreading, which are integral to lung growth in utero. We investigated the role of the nuclear envelope protein emerin in cellular responses to these dynamic mechanical transitions.

Combined epidural emphysema and nonsurgical pneumoperitoneum after blunt trauma: report of two cases and review of the literature.

Epidural emphysema is a rare condition, and when occurs in isolation it is usually benign and resolves spontaneously after the underlying cause has been treated. Epidural emphysema is usually accompanied by pneumothorax, subcutaneous emphysema, or pneumomediastinum. In addition, nonsurgical (benign) pneumoperitoneum is a state of the presence of air in the peritoneal space, not requiring surgical intervention.

Costal osteochondroma presenting as haemothorax and diaphragmatic laceration.

We report the unusual case of an 11-year-old girl who suffered a large haemothorax and lacerated left hemidiaphragm because of a costal osteochondroma arising from the left sixth rib near the costochondral junction. Surgical excision of the osteochondroma was performed and the lacerated diaphragm was repaired.
