We sought to investigate whether AMY provides protection against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI in mice and explore the mechanisms of its protection. Results showed that AMY effectively alleviated LPS-induced ALI in a dose-dependent manner by reducing in vivo lung wet/dry ratio, lung/body weight ratio, and myeloperoxidase (MPO).

Alterations in the composition of intestinal flora in both preclinical and confirmed RA patients indicate that intestinal bacteria play a vital role in RA immune function. However, the mechanism by which the intestinal flora is regulated to improve the condition of RA is not fully understood.

Despite a long history of traditional use, the flowers obtained by different drying technologies have never been fully chemically characterized, and the ranges of constituents between different drying methods have not been comprehensively reported.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLycium barbarum polysaccharides (LBPs) are recognized as key bioactive constituents of Lycium barbarum with diverse biological activities. However, current research on LBPs is largely confined to crude extracts, offering limited insight into the structural properties underlying their biological effects. In this study, we separated crude LBP into acidic LBP (ALBP) and neutral LBP (NLBP), which exhibited distinct physicochemical properties.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOxidative stress is a crucial concept in redox biology, and significant progress has been made in recent years. Excessive levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) can lead to oxidative damage, heightening vulnerability to various diseases. By contrast, ROS maintained within a moderate range plays a role in regulating normal physiological metabolism.

To investigate natural strategies for modulating these implicated pathways, we examined the impact and underlying mechanism of luteoloside on premature AMD using a stress-induced premature senescence (SIPS)-associated AMD animal model in middle-aged mice that mimicked the dysregulated pathways observed in dry AMD patients with premature aging. Luteoloside supplementation resulted in a significant reduction in serum levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-1β and lipofuscin, along with increased serum activity of the antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD) and elevated levels of pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF), and preserved retinal thickness and structure in AMD mice.
