[Horseshoe kidney: its usefulness in transplantation].

The horseshoe kidney is useful as a graft and should be transplanted. The technical difficulties can be avoided by en bloc removal, perfusion in situ with Collins solution, and bench surgery during graft preparation.

[Transrectal echography in the infertile male. Statistical study].

We evaluated the transrectal echo patterns in 140 infertile men using the following parameters: the transverse and anteroposterior diameters of the prostate, the presence of periprostatic venus plexus, and the transverse diameter of the seminal vesicles. Patients were classified according to data gleaned from semen analyses following the criteria recommended by the WHO. Microbiological analyses using the Meares and Stamey technics, as well as semen analyses, were performed in those patients who presented with leukospermia.

[Modification of the echographic pattern of carcinoma of the prostate treated with Lh-rh agonists].

We present the results of a study undertaken to assess the echo patterns and prostate size in 13 patients with prostatic carcinoma treated with Lh-rh agonists. The study revealed a gradual reduction of the anteroposterior and transverse diameters. After 12 months, these were 28% and 22% of their respective initial values.

[Aztreonam versus tobramycin in acute pyelonephritis. A comparative study].

We performed a comparative study between the monobactam antibiotic aztreonam and the aminoglycoside tobramycin in patients diagnosed as having acute pyelonephritis. The respective doses were 1 gr. IM daily for 7 days, and 100 mgr.

Immunoprophylaxis with Calmette-Guérin bacillus in recurrent superficial bladder tumors.

26 patients with superficial bladder cancer underwent complete removal of tumors by transurethral resection and entered a prospective trial of immunoprophylaxis with Calmette-Guérin bacillus (BCG). The entire group had recurrent tumors that failed to respond to previous prophylaxis with thiotepa (13 patients) or other drugs (13 patients). Intravesical administration of BCG reduced the recurrence index and increased the disease-free interval.

[Value of bone gammagraphy and pain in the follow-up of carcinoma of the prostate].

We reviewed 382 bone scans from 161 patients with prostatic adenocarcinoma submitted to scintigraphic evaluation over the period 1980 to 1988. Each patient had a mean of 2.37 bone scans (1 to 9 scans).

Treatment of chronic prostatitis: intraprostatic antibiotic injections under echography control.

We treated 51 patients diagnosed as having chronic bacterial prostatitis (gram-negative) with 2 ml. intraprostatic amikacin (500 mg.) or tobramycin (100 mg.

Retroperitoneal malignant fibrous histiocytoma.

Five cases of malignant fibrous histiocytoma located in the retroperitoneum are reported. Paraneoplastic syndrome, abdominal mass, tendency to local recurrence, laborious therapy and poor prognosis are the clinical characteristics of this tumor. Accuracy of actual diagnosis is evaluated and pathological features are analyzed.

Appearance of gas in renal tissue after therapeutic embolization.

We present a case of therapeutic embolization in a patient with adenocarcinoma who demonstrated the presence of gas in the renal infarcted tissue on the second day. The pattern of air distribution was intravascular. There was no sign of abscess clinically or radiographically.

Spontaneous healing of ureterogenital fistulas: selection criteria.

We present 12 cases with spontaneous healing of ureterovaginal (11 cases) and ureterouterine (1 case) fistulas. In every case disappearance of the fistula with normal renal function and restoration of the excretory tract was obtained. IVP and retrograde pyelographs were performed in every case.
