Children are the main susceptible group to acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), and the lack of sufficient data has impeded a comprehensive understanding of its global impact. This study analyzed the annual numbers and rates of incidence, deaths, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) of childhood ALL from 1990 to 2021, disaggregated by age group, gender, and socio-demographic index (SDI) at the global, regional, and national levels, based on the 2021 Global Burden of Disease (GBD) database. Although global deaths and DALYs rates for childhood ALL showed declining trends, the incidence rate fluctuated.

Objective: Exploring changing trends in the burden caused by overweight and obesity among children and adolescents from 1990 to 2019 at the global, regional, and national levels, based on data from the Global Burden of Disease study (GBD) 2019.

Methods: The annual number and rate of deaths and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) associated with a high BMI among children and adolescents at global, regional, and national levels by age groups, sexes, and the sociodemographic index from 1990 to 2019 were collected from the GBD study 2019. Change percentage for number, and the estimated annual percentage changes (EAPCs) for rate were calculated to determine the temporal trends.

Forkhead box K2 (FOXK2) is a transcription factor involved in regulating the pathophysiological processes in many types of cancers. Functioning as either an oncogene or tumor suppressor, FOXK2 is involved in cell proliferation, metastasis, DNA damage, metabolism, and autophagy. However, the functions of FOXK2 in multiple myeloma (MM) are still unexplored.

Background: The occurrence of extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) in the ovaries is rare. Here, we describe the clinical, pathological and radiological presentations of ovarian plasmacytomas to improve the differential diagnosis of this disease. Also, the reasons for misdiagnosis, clinical manifestations and radiological features were discussed through a literature review.

In order to explore the characteristics and diagnostic value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in axillary lymph node metastasis of breast cancer, a total of 200 breast cancer patients diagnosed and treated from January 2021 to January 2022 are selected as the study subjects, and 200 patients are divided into an axillary lymph node metastasis group and a simple breast cancer group according to pathological results. The pathological results are used as the gold standard to determine the accuracy and diagnostic efficacy of MRI results. A multivariate logistic regression method is used to analyze the influencing factors of MRI image characteristics of breast cancer axillary lymph node metastasis.

Article Synopsis
  • Dysregulation of cerebral microvascular endothelial cells contributes to stroke, and this study investigates the role of the long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) FAL1 in this context.
  • The researchers observed that FAL1 levels decrease following oxygen-glucose deprivation and reoxygenation (OGD/R) stress, but overexpressing FAL1 can reduce oxidative stress and inflammation in brain cells.
  • Additionally, FAL1 overexpression helps maintain cell viability, restores key cellular functions, and counteracts damage related to stroke, suggesting its potential protective role in brain endothelial cell health.

Background: Ischemic stroke (IS) is a devastating occurrence affecting millions worldwide. This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (HRMRI) in assessing carotid atherosclerotic plaque in IS patients.

Methods: Between January 2013 and March 2015, 338 IS patients were recruited for the investigative purposes of the study.
