Background: Methemoglobinemia can be inherited or acquired. Acquired forms are more common due to drugs or poisonous substances that oxidize hemoglobin, and pesticide-related cases are notably rare.

Case Presentation: We report a 69-year-old woman who ingested 30 mL of tebufenozide and indoxacarb and was asymptomatic for 3 h; however, the patient was admitted to the hospital after 8 h, unconscious, with tachypnea, cyanosis, and 61.

Background: Increased aging and accelerated urbanization have led to the migration of older adults within China. Migrant older adults (MOAs) may experience physical and psychological discomfort in influx cities, and they are a vulnerable group that has emerged in the course of fast urbanization. Previous studies have confirmed the association between oral health and loneliness as well as the relationship between social support and loneliness; however, no research has been done to clarify the underlying mechanisms and the migrant-local difference between oral health, social support, and loneliness.

Introduction: Chlorfenapyr, a broad-spectrum insecticide and acaricide of the pyrrole-class pesticides, can induce dizziness, fatigue, profuse sweating, and altered consciousness by interfering with cell energy metabolism. However, chlorfenapyr-related rhabdomyolysis has rarely been reported.

Case Presentations: Patient 1 was a healthy 26-year-old man who ingested approximately 30 mL of chlorfenapyr.

This study aimed to investigate the selective effect of the reproductive tract mucus in cows that have consistently produced offspring of a single sex on X/Y spermatozoa. We collected mucus from the reproductive tract of cows that had given calvings to offspring of the same sex, or alternated between sexes, for more than five consecutive calvings. We evaluated the pH of reproductive tract mucus.

Article Synopsis
  • A study investigated the psychological resilience of university students in China during the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on the impact of family factors, social mentality, and mental health over time.
  • The research involved 1,635 students from five universities, using various questionnaires to assess mental health and resilience across three waves of data collection.
  • Results showed that resilience slightly increased during the pandemic, with factors like positive family influence and social mentality enhancing resilience, while anxiety, depression, and a negative social outlook decreased it.

Fowl adenovirus serotype 4 (FAdV-4) is the main causative agent of hydropericardium hepatitis syndrome (HHS), which has resulted in huge economic losses to the poultry industry in recent years. Hence, a rapid and simple visual detection method is needed for identification of FAdV-4. In this study, three multienzyme isothermal rapid amplification (MIRA) assays, basic MIRA, MIRA-qPCR and MIRA-LFD were developed for detection of FAdV-4.

Tc is regarded as the most important medical isotope, and its supply issues have garnered significant attention. A simple and efficient separation method was performed for the production of Tc from Mo target in this study. The entire process involves accelerator irradiation, Tc/Mo separation, and target material recovery.

Article Synopsis
  • Cervical mucus helps sperm but can also block it, and this study looks at how it changes in dairy cows during different reproductive phases.
  • The researchers examined cervical mucus from 60 Holstein cows and found different types of mucus that appear in different phases: proestrus, estrus, and metestrus.
  • They discovered that more sperm can get through the mucus during estrus and metestrus than during proestrus, which is important for understanding cow reproduction.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the genetic diversity of Kirghiz sheep and their adaptability to the Pamir Plateau by analyzing various sheep breeds and using advanced genetic analysis techniques such as principal component and phylogenetic analysis.
  • - Selective signature analysis revealed important genes linked to adaptive traits and production characteristics, including those related to environmental adaptations, wool quality, body size, reproduction, and immunity.
  • - The findings aim to enhance local sheep breeding programs by identifying key candidate genes that can improve the resilience and productivity of Kirghiz sheep in harsh conditions.

Introduction: Severe diquat poisoning often leads to acute kidney injury, gastrointestinal injury, paralytic ileus, rhabdomyolysis, respiratory failure, refractory circulatory failure, and brainstem damage.

Case Summary: A previously healthy 38-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with anuria, mild abdominal distension, and calf pain after ingesting diquat (200 g/L) 100 mL approximately 13 h before presentation. His blood diquat concentration was 8.

Objectives: This study was to assess the lot-to-lot consistency, immunogenicity and safety of three manufacturing lots of a quadrivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (IIV4).

Methods: A randomized, double-blind, phase IV clinical trial was conducted in healthy children, adolescents and adults aged 9-59 years in Guizhou Province, China. Eligible participants were enrolled and randomized into three groups in a ratio of 1:1:1 to receive a single dose of one of three manufacturing lots of IIV4.

During poultry immunization, antibiotics are typically added to inactivated oil-adjuvant avian influenza (AI) vaccines. Here, we evaluated the effects of adding ceftiofur, a third-generation cephalosporin, to an AI vaccine on vaccine stability and structure and on chick growth, immune efficacy, blood concentrations, biochemical and immunological indices, and gut microbiota. The results demonstrated that neither aqueous ceftiofur sodium nor ceftiofur hydrochloride oil emulsion formed a stable mixture with the vaccine.

Analyzing the genetic diversity and selection characteristics of sheep (Ovis aries) holds significant value in understanding their environmental adaptability, enhancing breeding efficiency, and achieving effective conservation and rational utilization of genetic resources. In this study, we utilized Illumina Ovine SNP 50 K BeadChip data from four indigenous sheep breeds from the southern margin of the Taklamakan Desert (Duolang sheep: n = 36, Hetian sheep: n = 74, Kunlun sheep: n = 27, Qira black sheep: n = 178) and three foreign meat sheep breeds (Poll Dorset sheep: n = 105, Suffolk sheep: n = 153, Texel sheep: n = 150) to investigate the population structure, genetic diversity, and genomic signals of positive selection within the indigenous sheep. According to the Principal component analysis (PCA), the Neighbor-Joining tree (NJ tree), and Admixture, we revealed distinct clustering patterns of these seven sheep breeds based on their geographical distribution.
