This study investigated regional dietary patterns and their association with hypertensive dyslipidemia multimorbidity among older Chinese adults. Data from 13,809 individuals (aged ≥ 65 years) were extracted from the 2015-2017 China Nutrition and Health Surveillance. Hypertensive dyslipidemia multimorbidity was defined as concurrent hypertension and dyslipidemia.

Introduction: Esophageal cancer presents significant challenges due to the limited efficacy and severe side effects associated with conventional treatments. The identification of epigenetic regulatory molecules that are aberrantly expressed in tumors is crucial for elucidating the mechanisms underlying the development and progression of esophageal cancer.

Methods: We performed high-throughput methylation level analysis on cancerous and adjacent tissues from 25 patients, identifying the differentially methylated gene utilizing Bismark software and data from TCGA.

Endothelial cells play a critical role in the pathophysiology of ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI). Although previous studies have shown that IRI can activate PANoptosis, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Our research investigates how IRI induces PANoptosis in endothelial cells, aiming to identify protective strategies to safeguard these cells from PANoptosis triggered by IRI.

This study introduces a novel Transformer-based time-series framework designed to revolutionize risk stratification in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) by predicting patient outcomes with high temporal precision. Leveraging sequential data from the eICU database, our two-stage architecture dynamically captures evolving health trajectories throughout a patient's ICU stay, enabling real-time identification of high-risk individuals and actionable insights for personalized interventions. The model demonstrated exceptional predictive power, achieving a progressive AUC increase from 0.

Background: To develop an artificial intelligence system that can accurately identify acute non-traumatic intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) etiology (aneurysms, hypertensive hemorrhage, arteriovenous malformation (AVM), Moyamoya disease (MMD), cavernous malformation (CM), or other causes) based on non-contrast computed tomography (NCCT) scans and investigate whether clinicians can benefit from it in a diagnostic setting.

Methods: The deep learning model was developed with 1,868 eligible NCCT scans with non-traumatic ICH collected between January 2011 and April 2018. We tested the model on two independent datasets (TT200 and SD 98) collected after April 2018.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the differences between neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE) patients with and without white matter hyperintensity (WMH) on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and to identify factors independently associated with the development of WMH in NPSLE.

Method: A comparative analysis was conducted on 84 NPSLE patients hospitalized at Peking University People's Hospital from 2015 to 2022 at the initial diagnosis of NPSLE. Patients were categorized based on the presence of WMH on brain MRI scans.

Flexible perovskite solar cells offer significant potential for portable electronics due to their exceptional power density. However, the commercialization of these devices is hampered by challenges related to mechanical flexibility, primarily due to inadequate adhesion between the perovskite absorber layer and the flexible substrate. Herein, this delamination issue is addressed by employing a bifacial linker, potassium benzyl(trifluoro)borate (BnBFK), to enhance adhesion at the SnO/perovskite interface.

Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most lethal subtype of renal cancer, and its treatment options remain limited. Therefore, there is an urgent need to discover therapeutic agents for ccRCC treatment. Here, we demonstrate that dimethyl fumarate (DMF), an approved medication for multiple sclerosis [1] and psoriasis, can inhibit the proliferation of ccRCC cells.

This study investigated the content of inflammatory cytokines in the aqueous humor (AH) of cataract patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and explored the effect of metformin on the level of cytokines. AH was collected from patients undergoing phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation in Peking University Third Hospital. Levels of cytokines were measured by Cytometric Bead Assay (CBA) Flex Set.

Spectrophotometer method, ELISA, and High-performance anion exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection (HPAEC-PAD) method have been widely used to quantify and characterize the glucose released from rice after in vitro digestion. Despite this, the results of the three methods may not be comparable. This work investigated the limitation of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) of the glucose released after in vitro rice digestion.

Lipid droplets (LDs), serving as the convergence point of energy metabolism and multiple signaling pathways, have garnered increasing attention in recent years. Different cell types within the central nervous system (CNS) can regulate energy metabolism to generate or degrade LDs in response to diverse pathological stimuli. This article provides a comprehensive review on the composition of LDs in CNS, their generation and degradation processes, their interaction mechanisms with mitochondria, the distribution among different cell types, and the roles played by these cells-particularly microglia and astrocytes-in various prevalent neurological disorders.

Background: As a common complication of Sjogren syndrome (SS), SS-related dry eye disease (SS-DED) significantly affects the patients' quality of life. Pro-inflammatory cytokines in tears are widely believed to play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of SS-DED. A systematic literature review with meta-analyses was conducted to provide a quantitative summary of tear cytokine levels in SS-DED compared with non-SS-DED and healthy controls.

Recycling of reclaimed water is an important way to develop water resources and reduce pollution discharge. At present, the utilization rate of reclaimed water is low in China and the recycling system is inadequate. Therefore, from the perspective of "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality" dual carbon propulsion and "water resources protection, water environment governance, and water ecological restoration" three water co-governance, this study first systematically combined the water resources situation, water supply structure, urban domestic sewage collection and treatment, and recycling of reclaimed water in all provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions).

Background: Infertility is a reproductive health problem that attracts worldwide attention. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a major cause of female infertility and patients with obesity and PCOS are particularly common in clinical practice. Long non-coding RNA (lncRNAs) are a functional core in cells that regulate gene expression, transcription, and chromatin modification processes, and participate in epigenetics, cell cycle, and cell differentiation.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) and their cargoes are increasingly being recognized as noninvasive diagnostic markers, necessitating the isolation of EVs from complex biological samples. Herein, a distearoyl phospholipid ethanolamine-functionalized single-crystal ordered macroporous three-dimensional zeolitic imidazolate framework (SOM-ZIF-8-DSPE) was developed, which combines the surface charge interaction of ZIF-8 with the synergistic effect of DSPE insertion into the phospholipid membrane of EVs to improve the isolating selectivity of EV capture. The materials have porous structures larger than 300 nm in diameter, providing enough space and active sites to trap EVs.

Article Synopsis
  • Hepatitis B virus (HBV) significantly increases the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) recurrence, but the precise mechanisms behind this remain unclear.
  • A study found that the microtubule-associated protein 1S (MAP1S) is upregulated in metastatic HCC due to the action of HBV-encoded X protein (HBx), which in turn promotes tumor growth and survival.
  • Analysis of 150 HCC patients showed that higher MAP1S levels and lower levels of histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) correlated with shorter relapse-free survival, indicating a feedback loop involving MAP1S, Smad, and TGF-β1 that drives HBV-related HCC proliferation and
