Background: Toxoplasma gondii is an opportunistic pathogenic protozoan that infects all warm-blooded animals, including humans, and causes zoonotic toxoplasmosis. The bradyzoite antigen 1 (BAG1), known as heat-shock protein (HSP)30, is a specific antigen expressed during the early stage of T. gondii tachyzoite-bradyzoite conversion.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Toxoplasma gondii infection affects a significant portion of the global population, leading to severe toxoplasmosis and, in immunocompromised patients, even death. During T. gondii infection, disruption of gut microbiota further exacerbates the damage to intestinal and brain barriers.

However, this approach has seldom been utilized for the comparative study on the effects of different metals to fish. In this study, acute and sub-chronic tests were used to compare the toxicity of Se(IV) and Cd in the embryos and larvae of Japanese medaka (Oryzias latipes).

An improved understanding of the transcriptional response to salt stress in roots, the organ directly exposed to a high salinity environment, can inform breeding strategies to enhance tolerance and increase crop yield. Here, RNA-sequencing was performed on the roots of salt-tolerant wheat breeding line CH7034 at 0, 1, 6, 24, and 48 h after NaCl treatment.

The NSA modification was more effective in altering the rheological properties of amaranth starches. NSA-modified amaranth starch showed significantly higher peak viscosity (7.

At present, clinical therapeutic drugs mainly target tachyzoites and fail to eradicate bradyzoites. Developing a safe and effective vaccine against toxoplasmosis is urgent and important.

Tumor cells can successfully escape the host immune attack by inducing the production of immunosuppressive cells and molecules, leading to an ineffective tumor treatment and poor prognosis. Although immunotherapies have improved the survival rate of cancer patients in recent years, more effective drugs and therapies still need to be developed. As an intracellular parasite, can trigger a strong Th1 immune response in host cells, including upregulating the expression of interleukin-12 (IL-12) and interferon-γ (IFN-γ).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe intracellular protozoan Toxoplasma gondii results in serious diseases such as encephalitis, and retinochoroiditis in immunocompromised patients. The interconversion between tachyzoites and bradyzoites under the host's immune pressure results in the interchange of acute infection and chronic infection. We previously reported two functional DNA methyltransferases (DNMT) in Toxoplasma gondii named TgDNMTa and TgDNMTb.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTerpene synthases (TPSs) are essential for forming terpenes, which play numerous functional roles in attracting pollinators, defending plants, and moderating the interaction between plants. TPSs have been reported in some orchids, but genome-wide identification of terpenes in is still lacking. In this study, 32 putative TPS genes were classified in and divided into three subfamilies (TPS-a, TPS-b, and TPS-e/f).

IFN-γ inducible tripartite motif 21 (TRIM21), an E3 ligase, plays an important role in anti-infection responses against the intracellular pathogens including bacteria, virus, and parasite. We found that virulence factor ROP18 of the type I RH strain (ROP18) interacted with human TRIM21, and promoted the latter's phosphorylation, which subsequently accelerated TRIM21 degradation through lysosomal pathway.

Although the disease caused by DENV is self-limiting in the first infection, the antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE) effect increases the mortality in the second infection with a heterotypic virus. Since there is no specific efficient medicine in treatment, it is urgent to develop vaccines to prevent infection and disease progression.

The exclusive and specific target of the toxin is the voltage-gated sodium channels of the insect, resulting in fast excitatory paralysis and even death. Because of its strict toxic selectivity and high bioactivity, AaIT has been widely used in experiments exploring pest bio-control.

We present a novel artistic-verisimilitude driven system for watercolor rendering of images and photos. Our system achieves realistic simulation of a set of important characteristics of watercolor paintings that have not been well implemented before. Specifically, we designed several image filters to achieve: 1) watercolor-specified color transferring; 2) saliency-based level-of-detail drawing; 3) hand tremor effect due to human neural noise; and 4) an artistically controlled wet-in-wet effect in the border regions of different wet pigments.
