We study the impact of scope-of-practice laws in a highly regulated and important policy setting, the provision of medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder. We consider two natural experiments generated by policy changes at the state and federal level that allow nurse practitioners more practice autonomy. Both experiments show that liberalizations of prescribing authority lead to large improvements in access to care.

M2 macrophages are a major component of the tumor microenvironment and are important promoters of tumor occurrence and progression. In this study, we detected large numbers of M2 macrophages in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues using immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence. Moreover, upon oxaliplatin treatment, the M2 macrophages overexpressed interleukin-17, an important inflammatory cytokine, and thus inhibited oxaliplatin-induced apoptosis.

Aim: To investigate the mechanism of chaperone-mediated autophagy (CMA)-induced resistance to irradiation-triggered apoptosis through regulation of the p53 protein in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Methods: Firstly, we detected expression of lysosome-associated membrane protein 2a (Lamp-2a), which is the key protein of CMA, by western blot in HepG2 and SMMC7721 cells after irradiation. We further used shRNA Lamp-2a HCC cells to verify the radioresistance induced by CMA.

The interleukin (IL)-17/IL-17 receptor (IL-17R) complex has been shown to be important for the regulation of inflammation; however, its role in the regulation of tumor processes has recently emerged as a research focus. The present study demonstrated that oxaliplatin was able to increase the levels of IL-17/IL-17R in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients and cells lines, and that it had important roles in reducing the susceptibility of the cells to oxaliplatin-induced apoptosis. Furthermore, the expression of autophagy-related proteins was induced by IL-17/IL-17R and autophagy was shown to induce resistance to oxaliplatin in HCC.
