Article Synopsis
  • Fresnel incoherent correlation holography (FINCH) traditionally faces challenges with its high bandwidth requirements and expensive high-resolution imaging hardware, which limits its practical applications.
  • A new method called single-pixel Fresnel incoherent correlation holography (SP-FINCH) has been introduced, which utilizes a single-pixel detector and employs a Trumpet network for improved cost-effectiveness and resolution.
  • This innovative approach demonstrates significantly better image reconstruction quality at lower sampling rates when compared to standard single-pixel methods, without needing phase-shifting processes, backed by numerical simulations and experimental results.

In conventional one-dimensional (1-D) photonic crystals (PCs) consisting of isotropic dielectrics, photonic bandgaps (PBGs) substantially shift toward shorter wavelengths as incident angle increases. This strong blueshift characteristic of PBGs significantly reduces the widths of near-infrared omnidirectional photonic bandgaps (OPBGs). Recently, researchers achieved a kind of special PBG called angle-insensitive PBGs in 1-D PCs containing all-dielectric elliptical metamaterials (EMMs).

Fresnel incoherent correlation holography (FINCH) realizes non-scanning three-dimension (3D) images using spatial incoherent illumination, but it requires phase-shifting technology to remove the disturbance of the DC term and twin term that appears in the reconstruction field, thus increasing the complexity of the experiment and limits the real-time performance of FINCH. Here, we propose a single-shot Fresnel incoherent correlation holography via deep learning based phase-shifting (FINCH/DLPS) method to realize rapid and high-precision image reconstruction using only a collected interferogram. A phase-shifting network is designed to implement the phase-shifting operation of FINCH.

To reduce the acquisition time of interferogram and provide a dynamic phase retrieval method with arbitrary phase shift using a dual-channel simultaneous polarization phase-shifting system, a two-step orthogonalization phase demodulation method (TOPD) based on a single differential interferogram is proposed in this paper. In this method, the differential interferogram obtained by subtracting two phase-shifting interferograms and one of the Gaussian filtered based-interferograms are used to normalize and orthogonalize, and then the phase related parameters are solved by the Lissajous ellipse fitting method. Finally, the measured phase is obtained with high accuracy.

In this paper, we propose a two-to-one deep learning (DL) framework for three- wavelength phase-shifting interferometry. The interferograms at two different wavelengths are used as the input of the proposed hybrid-net, and the interferogram of the third wavelength is used as the output. Using the advantages of the hybrid learning network, the interferogram of the third wavelength can be obtained accurately.

In this manuscript, we propose a quantitative phase imaging method based on deep learning, using a single wavelength illumination to realize dual-wavelength phase-shifting phase recovery. By using the conditional generative adversarial network (CGAN), from one interferogram recorded at a single wavelength, we obtain interferograms at other wavelengths, the corresponding wrapped phases and then the phases at synthetic wavelengths. The feasibility of the proposed method is verified by simulation and experiments.

We present a deep learning (DL) framework based on a conditional generative adversarial network (CGAN) to perform compressive optical image hiding (COIH) with a single-pixel detector. An end-to-end compressive sensing generative adversarial network (eCSGAN) is developed, achieving the approximate equivalent model of an inverse system of a nonlinear COIH model, to reconstruct two-dimensional secret images directly from real acquired one-dimensional compressive sampling signals without the need of any security keys of the COIH system such as the sequence of illumination patterns, the host image, etc. Moreover, detailed comparisons between the image reconstructed using eCSGAN and compressive sensing (CS) shows that the proposed method can remarkably increase the quality in image reconstruction with a lower sampling rate.

A metal nanoparticles-based surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) technique has been developed for biosensing and bioimaging due to its advantages in ultra-narrow line width for multiplexing, ultra-high sensitivity and excellent photostability. However, the "hotspots" effect between nanoparticles usually leads to unstable and nonuniform Raman enhancement, and this will greatly reduce the quality of SERS imaging. In this study, we employ the bridge gaps-enhanced Raman tags (BGERTs) to perform SERS imaging, in which BGERTs can not only reduce the influence of the "hotspots" effect between nanoparticles on Raman signal intensity but provide a great Raman enhancement when the Gold (Au) shell is thick enough.

A common-path interferometer for the real-time measurement of the liquid-crystal (LC) optic-axis angle and effective refractive index distribution is proposed. This method involves adding a polarizer and polarization camera to a general optical microscope. This requires only single-exposure imaging without changing any optical elements, and greatly simplifies the measurement process and system.

We propose and demonstrate a novel method to measure dynamic refractive index distributions using a combination of total internal reflection (TIR) and dual-channel simultaneous phase-shifting interferometry (DCSPSI). First, a right-angle prism is introduced into the DCSPSI system, the reflection phase variation induced by TIR, which contains the refractive index information of tested sample, can be achieved by the spatial carrier-frequency phase-shifting algorithm from a pair of interferograms with the phase shifts of π/2 captured by DCSPSI system. Second, based on the relationship between the reflection phase variation and the refractive index, the 2D refractive index distribution can be calculated easily.

Without the limitations of fringe number and fringe shape, a dual-channel simultaneous spatial and temporal polarization (DC-SSTP) phase-shifting interferometry system is proposed to achieve rapid and accurate phase retrieval through only one-time phase-shifting procedure with unknown phase shifts. First, an arbitrary phase shifts is simultaneously introduced into two channels of DC-SSTP system by a spatial light modulator (SLM). Second, by performing the subtraction operation between each pair of phase-shifting interferograms captured in the same channel, the background deduction of interferogram can be achieved easily, so the accurate phase can be retrieved rapidly.

An independent component analysis-based simultaneous phase-shifting dual-wavelength interferometry approach is proposed. By using a one-time phase-shifting procedure, the simultaneous phase-shifting operation of two illumination wavelengths can be implemented, and then the background intensity and two orthogonal independent components of each single wavelength can be separated from a sequence of simultaneous phase-shifting dual-wavelength interferograms with random phase shifts. Subsequently, the wrapped phases of single wavelength can be calculated by above two orthogonal independent components; thus the unambiguous phase of synthetic wavelength can be achieved.

In phase-shifting interferometry with unknown phase shifts, a normalization and orthogonalization phase-shifting algorithm (NOPSA) is proposed to achieve phase retrieval. The background of interferogram is eliminated through using the orthogonality of complex sinusoidal function; and the influence of phase shifts deviation on accuracy of phase retrieval is avoided through both normalization and orthogonalization processing. Compared with the current algorithms with unknown phase shifts, the proposed algorithm reveals significantly faster computation speed, higher accuracy, better stability and non-sensitivity of phase shifts deviation.

Combining spatial carrier-frequency phase-shifting (SCPS) technique and Fourier transform method, from one-frame spatial carrier-frequency interferogram (SCFI), a novel phase retrieval method is proposed and applied to dynamic phase measurement. First, using the SCPS technique, four-frame phase-shifting sub-interferograms can be constructed from one-frame SCFI. Second, using Fourier transform method, the accurate phase-shifts of four sub-interferograms can be extracted rapidly, so there is no requirement of calibration for the carrier-frequency in advance compared to most existing SCPS methods.

A method for optical image hiding and for optical image encryption and hiding in the Fresnel domain via completely optical means is proposed, which encodes original object image into the encrypted image and then embeds it into host image in our modified Mach-Zehnder interferometer architecture. The modified Mach-Zehnder interferometer not only provides phase shifts to record complex amplitude of final encrypted object image on CCD plane but also introduces host image into reference path of the interferometer to hide it. The final encrypted object image is registered as interference patterns, which resemble a Fresnel diffraction pattern of the host image, and thus the secure information is imperceptible to unauthorized receivers.
