Calcium metavanadate (CaVO) and magnesium metavanadate (MgVO) have received considerable attention due to their great potential for many practical applications; however, a fundamental understanding of their intrinsic physical properties is still not well established. Here, we present a comprehensive experimental and theoretical study of the optical, electronic, and lattice dynamic properties of CaVO and MgVO. We find that both compounds are semiconductors with indirect band gaps and exhibit visible light-emitting properties, which are thus expected to be the ideal candidates for phosphors or optoelectronic devices.

Background and Objectives: A prognosis for kids with pediatric dilated cardiomyopathy (PDCM) is urgently needed to identify high-risk patients. This study aimed to determine the association of levels and soluble suppression of tumorigenicity 2 (sST2) and medical therapy of β-blocker inhibitors with the risk of adverse events in PDCM. Materials and Methods: A total of 124 patients with PDCM were enrolled after admission from 2 centers in China and followed up for adverse events (death, cardiac transplantation, and heart-failure-related rehospitalization).

Objective: To describe adolescent and young adult (AYA) perspectives on defining quality and value in health care and to gain understanding of their knowledge of value-based payment.

Methods: A text message-based survey was sent to a convenience sample of AYAs aged 14 to 24 in 2019. Participants were asked 4 open-ended questions: 1) how they would define "good health care," 2) what factors to consider in rating doctors, 3) whose opinions should matter most when rating doctors, and 4) the best ways to collect AYA opinions on doctors, and one yes/no question on their awareness of value-based payment.

Karst ecosystems represent a typical heterogeneous habitat, and it is ubiquitous with varying interactive patches of rock and soil associated with differential weathering patterns of carbonate rocks. Arbuscular mycorrhizae fungi (AMF) play an important role in regulating plant growth and nutrition in heterogeneous karst habitats. However, it remains unclear how AMF affects the growth and nutrition of plants in heterogeneous karst soil with varying patches and weathering gravel.

SPOCK2 is a member of the SPOCK family, a 424-amino acid protein that binds to glycosaminoglycans to form proteoglycans. The purpose of this study was to explore expression profile of SPOCK2, and evaluate prognostic potential and its correlation with immune infiltration in high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC). Expression of SPOCK2 mRNA and protein between normal and tumor tissues were analyzed using the Cancer Genome Atlas database (TCGA), Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO), Clinical Proteomic Tumor Analysis Consortium (CPTAC), and the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) databases.

Rural resilience is not only a comprehensive reflection of "thriving businesses, pleasant living environments, social etiquette and civility, effective governance, and prosperity". It is also the unity of resilience in industry, ecology, culture, organization and livelihood. This paper uses the entropy weight-TOPSIS method to measure the rural resilience level in 31 regions in China and analyzes the configuration of influencing factors with the Fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA).

There is a complex dynamic coupling interaction process between the ecological environment and urban resilience. It is important to clarify the coordination relationship and interactive response mechanism between them for sustainable development construction of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. The coupling coordination degree model and the panel vector autoregressive model (PVAR) were adopted to quantitatively examine the dynamic coordination and interactive response of the ecological environment and urban resilience in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2000 to 2019.

Spatially resolved transcriptomics (SRT) technology enables us to gain novel insights into tissue architecture and cell development, especially in tumors. However, lacking computational exploitation of biological contexts and multi-view features severely hinders the elucidation of tissue heterogeneity. Here, we propose stMVC, a multi-view graph collaborative-learning model that integrates histology, gene expression, spatial location, and biological contexts in analyzing SRT data by attention.

CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing technology shows great potential for treating a variety of diseases, such as glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). However, CRISPR components suffer from inherent delivery challenges, such as poor in vivo stability of Cas9 protein and gRNA, low blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability and non-specific tissue or cell targeting. These defects have limited the application of Cas9/gRNA ribonucleoprotein (RNP) complexes for GBM therapy.

Phenylacetic acid (PAA) is a central intermediate metabolite involved in bacterial degradation of aromatic components. The bacterial PAA pathway mainly contains 12 enzymes and a transcriptional regulator, which are involved in biofilm formation and antimicrobial activity. They are present in approximately 16% of the sequenced bacterial genome.

Background: The high incidence of catastrophic health expenditure (ICHE) among middle-aged and elderly population is a major deterrent for reducing the financial risk of disease. Current research is predominantly based on the assumption of spatial homogeneity of nationwide population characteristics, ignoring the differences in regional characteristics. Thus, our study aimed to explore the impact of various influencing factors on the ICHE from a spatiotemporal perspective.

Brain source localization from electroencephalogram (EEG) signals is an challenging problem for noninvasively localizing the brain activity. Conventional methods use handcrafted regularization terms based on neural-physiological assumptions by exploiting the spatial-temporal structure on the source signals. In recent years, deep learning frameworks have demonstrated superior performance for solving the inverse problems in the natural and medical imaging field.

Mulch film (MF) residues is an important source of microplastics (MPs) in farmland, but its transportation risk to the wider environment was still unknown. Some researches have pursued the sources of MPs found in exorheic rivers. Even so, a systematic study depicting the occurrence, source and fate of microplastics derived from mulch films (MPMF), the crucial component of MPs in farmlands, in exorheic rivers still lacking.

As expressed predominantly in cardiac tissue, beta1-adrenoceptor (β-AR) is broadly accepted as one of the main targets for drugs against cardiovascular ailments. However, the discovery of β-AR ligand is gravely challenged due to the lack of efficient screening method. This work developed a general strategy for pursuing β-AR ligands from the herbal extract by immobilizing haloalkane dehalogenase (Halo)-tagged β-AR onto microspheres coated with 6-chlorohexanoic acid, and applying the immobilized β-AR in the analysis of ligand-receptor interaction.

In order to stabilize the self-biasing state of a laser gyroscope, a dual-longitudinal-mode asymmetric frequency stabilization technique was studied. The special frequency stabilization is based on the accurate control of the intensity tuning curve in the prism ring laser. In this study, the effects of the ratio of the Ne isotopes, the inflation pressure, and the frequencies coupling on the intensity tuning curve in a laser gyro were examined.

Microplastics (MPs) in ocean tides can be effectively intercepted by mangroves, especially sediments, which are considered to be effective sinks. However, the retention of plantation mangrove forests on MPs is still unclear. In this study, the spatial distribution and its implication factors of MPs in surface sediments of plantation mangrove forests were investigated for the first time.

Tumoral heterogeneity has proven to be a leading cause of difference in prognosis and acquired drug resistance. High intratumor heterogeneity often means poor clinical response and prognosis. Histopathological subtypes suggest tumor heterogeneity evolved during the progression of lung adenocarcinoma, but the exploration of its molecular mechanisms remains limited.
