Trichloroethanol (TCOH), as a metabolite of trichloroethylene, has sensitization in the pathogenesis of trichloroethylene-induced hypersensitivity dermatitis (TIHD) which the human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-B∗13:01 gene is strongly associated with it. However, it is still obscure how TCOH participates in the pathogenesis of TIHD. Here, we demonstrate that TLR2 and TLR4 signaling through MyD88 and TRAF6-dependent pathway could activate NF-κB by promoting degradation of the inhibitor IκB-α to stimulate the process of NF-κB nuclear translocation.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are emerging as novel regulators in the biological development of various diseases, but their expression profiles, functions and mechanisms in silicosis and pulmonary fibrosis remain largely unexplored. In this study, we constructed a mouse model of pulmonary fibrosis by intratracheal injection of silica particles and then performed transcriptome RNA sequencing of lung tissues. The in-depth study of fungal secondary metabolites (SMs) over the past few years has led to the discovery of a vast number of novel fungal SMs, some of which possess good biological activity. However, because of the limitations of the traditional natural product mining methods, the discovery of new SMs has become increasingly difficult. In recent years, with the rapid development of gene sequencing technology and bioinformatics, new breakthroughs have been made in the study of fungal SMs, and more fungal biosynthetic gene clusters of SMs have been discovered, which shows that the fungi still have a considerable potential to produce SMs.

Objectives: Conventional cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) for the value-based pricing of new medicines largely ignores the implications of limited market exclusivity (ie, patent-protection periods plus any exclusivity granted by regulators). This paper explores the implications of this methodological shortcoming, which produces several pricing anomalies with potentially unintended effects on research and development (R&D) incentives.

Methods: We illustrate these implications by comparing 4 stylized examples of increasing complexity, from short-term cures for acute conditions to long-term cures for rare, health-catastrophic conditions.

Herpes zoster is not common in multiple myeloma (MM) patients treated with lenalidomide-based regimens. We report an MM patient in his late 60s who received lenalidomide as maintenance treatment and whose condition was complicated with refractory postherpetic neuralgia.
