Background: Portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) seriously affects the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, whether bile duct tumor thrombus (BDTT) significantly affects the prognosis of HCC as much as PVTT remains unclear. We aimed to compare the long-term surgical outcomes of HCC with macroscopic PVTT (macro-PVTT) and macroscopic BDTT (macro-BDTT).

Article Synopsis
  • - Glycolytic metabolites, like 3-phosphoglycerate (3-PGA), are not just for energy but can regulate cell fate by influencing p53 activity related to apoptosis.
  • - Low 3-PGA levels shift phosphoglycerate dehydrogenase (PHGDH) function from serine synthesis to activating p53, promoting apoptosis through interactions with proteins like AXIN and HIPK2.
  • - PHGDH mutations can either hinder or enhance p53 activation and apoptosis in liver cancer cells, with caloric restriction providing a potential method to control cancer growth by lowering glucose levels and affecting PHGDH activity.

Thyroid cancer patients have a good prognosis, and their long survival increases the likelihood of developing a second primary tumor. Meanwhile, pancreatic cancer (PC) has a poor prognosis and therapeutic efficacy. However, the association between prior thyroid cancer and the subsequent PC prognosis is unknown.

Background: Early recurrence is common after surgical resection (SR) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with high risk of recurrence and is associated with poor prognosis. The combinations of lenvatinib (LEN), anti-PD-1 antibodies (PD-1) and transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) (triple therapy) has shown better trend in tumor response and survival outcomes on unresectable HCC. It is unknown whether triple therapy for neoadjuvant treatment of resectable HCC with high risk of recurrence is effective.

Article Synopsis
  • Anatomic resection (AR) is generally preferred over nonanatomic resection (NAR) for liver cancer patients with bile duct tumor thrombus (BDTT), though its benefits were uncertain prior to this study.
  • The research involved 175 HCC patients with BDTT, using propensity score matching to ensure accurate comparison of outcomes between AR and NAR groups.
  • Results indicated that patients undergoing AR had significantly better recurrence-free survival and observed higher overall survival rates compared to those who had NAR, particularly in those with smaller tumors (≤ 5 cm).

The boundary layer height (BLH) determines the interface between the lower and the free atmosphere, and it is a key variable in numerical simulations and aerosol and environmental pollution studies. This article proposes a novel method in conjunction with numerical regularization to analyze the climate characteristics of the marine boundary layer height (MBLH) using 2007-2011 GPS-RO data from the COSMIC mission. The MBLH corresponds to the smallest gradient, which is calculated using the numerical regulation method where the regulation parameters are determined by the double-parameter model function method.
