Drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB), especially multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB), is one of the urgent clinical problems and public health challenges. Culture-based phenotypic drug susceptibility testing (pDST) is time-consuming, and PCR-based assays are limited to hotspot mutations. In this study, we developed and validated a convenient and efficient approach based on high-throughput nanopore sequencing technology combined with multiplex PCR, namely nanopore targeted sequencing (NTS), to simultaneously sequence 18 genes associated with antibiotic resistance in (MTB).

Article Synopsis
  • A study investigated why some COVID-19 patients experience prolonged positivity for the virus, finding that these patients had higher levels of IgG antibodies and regulatory T cells compared to those with shorter viral infections.
  • The research identified that prolonged viral shedding was linked to disruption of specific biological pathways, reduced metabolites, increased inflammation, and boosted viral replication.
  • A predictive model was developed based on ten molecules, aimed at forecasting the duration of viral RNA shedding in patients, highlighting the role of inflammation and immune suppression in prolonged infections.

Wenzhou had the highest number of confirmed novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) cases outside the Hubei province. The aim of this study was to identify the difference in clinical features and viral RNA shedding between the imported and local COVID-19 cases in Wenzhou. All patients with confirmed COVID-19 admitted to Wenzhou Sixth People's Hospital, Wenzhou Central Hospital Medical Group, from January 17 to February 11, 2020, were enrolled in this study.

Background: Radiological manifestations of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) featured ground-glass opacities (GGOs), especially in the early stage, which might create confusion in differential diagnosis with early lung cancer. We aimed to specify the radiological characteristics of COVID-19 and early lung cancer and to unveil the discrepancy between them.

Methods: One hundred and fifty-seven COVID-19 patients and 374 early lung cancer patients from four hospitals in China were retrospectively enrolled.

A newly identified coronavirus, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which causes the infectious coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), emerged in December 2019 in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, and now poses a major threat to global public health. Previous studies have observed highly variable alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels in patients with COVID-19. However, circulating levels of the cholangiocyte injury biomarker gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) have yet to be reported in the existing COVID-19 case studies.

Objective: To explore the clinical and radiological characteristics of COVID-19 patients with progressive and non-progressive CT manifestations.

Methods: 160 patients with COVID-19 were retrospectively included from Wenzhou and Wuhan, China. CT features including lesion position, attenuation, form and total scores (0-4) at the segment level were evaluated.

Importance: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 has caused a global outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 binds angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 of the rennin-angiotensin system, resulting in hypokalemia.

Objective: To investigate the prevalence, causes, and clinical implications of hypokalemia, including its possible association with treatment outcomes, among patients with COVID-19.

Idiopathic Pulmonary fibrosis(PF)is a chronic progressive disease, which is a lack of effective treatment, and the pathogenesis of IPF is not fully elucidated. Asiaticoside(AS) is isolated from Centella asiatica and has the effect of promoting scar healing and reducing scar formation. However, its possible role in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis remains unclear.

Objective: To quantify coronavirus diseases 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia and to explore whether quantitative computer tomography (CT) could be used to assess severity on admission.

Materials And Methods: From January 17 to February 9, 2020, 38 hospitalized patients with COVID-19 pneumonia were consecutively enrolled in our hospitals. All clinical data and the chest CT on admission were retrospectively reviewed and analyzed.

Background: Little is known about COVID-19 outside Hubei. The aim of this paper was to describe the clinical characteristics and imaging manifestations of hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID-19 infection in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, China.

Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, 149 RT-PCR confirmed positive patients were consecutively enrolled from January 17th to February 10th, 2020 in three tertiary hospitals of Wenzhou.

The presence of therapy-associated hepatitis B virus (HBV) variants is the main drawback of antiviral therapy for HBV infection. Moreover, drug-resistant variants are more insensitive to a second agent and more therapy-associated mutations will be present. To apply better nucleos(t)ide analogues (NA) and reduce the occurrence of resistance, the prevalence and types of drug-resistant mutations in acute hepatitis B patients were investigated in this study.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to identify the different types of Hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA and their genotypes in patients.
  • The researchers used Polymerase Chain Reaction and Nucleic Acid hybridization to analyze samples, finding that a significant portion of patients had genotype B.
  • Results showed genotype B had higher ALT levels and HBe positivity compared to genotype C, with no clear links between genotypes and patient demographics like age or sex.

Background & Objective: P27 protein and cyclin E were negative cell cycle regulators. Until the present, the influence of P27 protein and cyclin E on progression of colon cancer was unclear. The aim of this study was to observe the expression features of P27 protein and cyclin E in the tissues of colon neoplasms, and to investigate the relationship between colon neoplasms and tumor special growth factor (TSGF).
