Resistance to pod shattering is a key domestication-related trait selected for seed production in many crops. Here, we show that the transition from shattering in wild soybeans to shattering resistance in cultivated soybeans resulted from selection of mutations within the coding sequences of two nearby genes - Sh1 and Pdh1. Sh1 encodes a C2H2-like zinc finger transcription factor that promotes shattering by repressing SHAT1-5 expression, thereby reducing the secondary wall thickness of fiber cap cells in the abscission layers of pod sutures, while Pdh1 encodes a dirigent protein that orchestrates asymmetric lignin distribution in inner sclerenchyma, creating torsion in pod walls that facilitates shattering.

A photonic method based on a dual-polarization dual-parallel Mach-Zehnder modulator (DPol-DPMZM) for the simultaneous measurement of the Doppler frequency shift (DFS) and angle of arrival (AOA) of microwave signals is proposed and demonstrated by simulation. The upper arm of each sub-DPMZM is driven by the echo and self-interference signals from the antenna, while the lower arm is driven by the reference signal 1 and reference signal 2. The phase and amplitude of the reference signal 1 are adjusted to match the interference signals for achieving the self-interference cancellation (SIC).

Objective: To compare the number of oocytes retrieved and clinical outcomes of ovulation induction in an older population treated with fertilization (IVF)/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) (IVF/ICSI) using different rFSH options and the effectiveness of antagonist treatment to induce ovulation using gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists (GnRH-a) in combination with an human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) trigger.

Methods: A total of 132 fresh cycles were selected for this study, which were treated with IVF/ICSI in our hospital from March 2022 to December 2022. Observations were made according to different subgroups and the effects of different triggering methods on the number of oocytes obtained, embryo quality, and clinical outcomes.

The origin and functionality of long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) remain poorly understood. Here, we show that multiple quantitative trait loci modulating distinct domestication traits in soybeans are pleiotropic effects of a locus composed of two tandem lncRNA genes. These lncRNA genes, each containing two inverted repeats, originating from coding sequences of the MYB genes, function in wild soybeans by generating clusters of small RNA (sRNA) species that inhibit the expression of their MYB gene relatives through post-transcriptional regulation.

This report highlights necessity of correctly and quickly identifying Littmann sign. Littmann sign is not common in clinical practice, which is easily overlooked by most physicians, leading to delays in the treatment of hyperkalemia. A 68 year old patient with hyperkalemia was found to have inconsistent heart rate displayed on electrocardiogram monitoring with cardiac auscultation and synchronous electrocardiogram in the early stages of onset.
