The phase structure information of high-entropy alloys (HEAs) is critical for their design and application, as different phase configurations are associated with distinct chemical and physical properties. However, the broad range of elements in HEAs presents significant challenges for precise experimental design and rational theoretical modeling and simulation. To address these challenges, machine learning (ML) methods have emerged as powerful tools for phase structure prediction.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) causes lower respiratory tract infections in infants and young children, leading to a pathogenesis-associated imbalance in CD4 T-cell subsets and monocyte subsets. To investigate whether RSV affects the imbalance of CD4 T-cells through monocytes, we examined the effects of the RSV-infected monocyte subset on CD4 T-cell subsets, namely, Th1, Th2, Th17, and regulatory T (Treg) subsets, on proliferation and identified key monocyte-derived cytokines. We found that RSV efficiently infects CD16 monocytes, but not CD16 monocytes, cocultures of CD4 T-cells with RSV-infected CD16 monocytes, inhibits Treg cell proliferation and increases Th2 cell frequency, suggesting that RSV causes an imbalance in the CD4 T-cell subset by primarily infecting CD16 monocytes.

Adsorption energy is critical in catalysis, energy storage, and sensing. Optimal adsorption energy on a catalytic substrate is essential as extreme adsorption energy can reduce the reaction efficiency. Building on our previous research on the influence of work function on adsorption energy ( , , 3525-3530), we examined a range of two-dimensional semiconductor materials, including black phosphorene, boron nitride, and MoS, as supporting substrates for the construction of silicene-semiconductor heterojunctions.

  • Thyroid cancer generally has a good prognosis, but lymph node metastasis (LNM) is a major concern due to its links to higher recurrence rates and reduced survival.
  • Diagnosing small lymph nodes (less than 1 cm) remains challenging, making it difficult to determine if they are cancerous or benign, which has prompted recent research on better diagnostic methods.
  • New technologies like contrast-enhanced ultrasonography and molecular detection have improved the diagnosis of small indeterminate lymph nodes, and updated management strategies are now recommended in clinical guidelines.

Intestinal mucosal barrier loss is responsible for the chronic and recurrent ulcerative colitis. Myosin light chain kinase (MLCK) is a potential therapeutic target of the intestinal mucosal barrier dysfunction. Here, we developed a reactive oxygen species (ROS)-sensitive hydrogel (ATG-CS-Gel) derived from a diselenide-bridged arctigenin (ATG) and chitosan (CS) conjugate, with the aims of targeting to inflamed mucosa and modulating MLCK.

A novel Cu/Pd-catalyzed domino radical cyclization and C-H carbonylation of α-bromocarbonyls has been developed, which enables the rapid incorporation of CO unit into polycyclic quinolin-2(1)-one scaffolds. By using Mo(CO) as the CO source, the reaction proceeded smoothly to furnish various polycyclic carbonyl-containing quinolin-2(1)-one derivatives in high yields. Notably, this method could be used in the late-stage modification of biologically active molecules such as estrone.

A critical host response against viral infections entails the activation of innate immune signaling that culminates in the production of antiviral proteins. DNA viruses are sensed by the cytosolic pattern recognition receptor cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS), which initiates a signaling pathway that results in production of proinflammatory cytokines such as Interferon-β (IFN-β) and activation of the antiviral response. Precise regulation of the antiviral innate immune response is required to avoid deleterious effects of its overactivation.

To address the issues of plume formation and heavy metal ion release during deep-sea mining operations, this study employed multi-sourced mineral composite roasting materials (MMCCM) of varying sizes. An in-situ capping technique was applied within a simulated system to immobilize heavy metals in contaminated sediments. The results demonstrated that capping with MMCCM of different sizes significantly suppressed the upward migration of Cu, Co, and Ni from sediments into the overlying seawater following disturbance.

Background: Outpatient hysteroscopic surgery requires patients to be anaesthetised and recover quickly, and the drugs used must be safe and effective. Remifentanil is typically co-administered with propofol as total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA) for hysteroscopy because of its favourable pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties. However, the optimal dose of remifentanil when co-administered with propofol without neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs) has not been established.

Oil, mineral processing and environmental restoration can be dangerous processes. Attempts are often made to apply microorganisms to reduce the risks, but the adaptability of terrestrial organisms is often weak. Although genetically engineered strains can improve their environmental adaptability through targeted modification, there are problems such as metabolite accumulation, poor plasmid stability and potential pathogenicity.

Metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD), also known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), is a worldwide liver disease without definitive or widely used therapeutic drugs in clinical practice. In this study, we confirm that 6-gingerol (6-G), an active ingredient of ginger () in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), can alleviate fructose-induced hepatic steatosis. It was found that 6-G significantly decreased hyperlipidemia caused by high-fructose diets (HFD) in rats, and reversed the increase in hepatic de novo lipogenesis (DNL) and triglyceride (TG) levels induced by HFD, both in vivo and in vitro.

Unlabelled: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) targets epithelial cells in the respiratory tract, triggering an acute proinflammatory response and chronic lung inflammation. Probiotic supplementation has shown promise in reducing the nasopharyngeal SARS-CoV-2 viral load, diminishing symptom frequency and duration, and mitigating inflammation; thus, it is a potential strategy for treating coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which is caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection. In this study, we evaluated the effects of the oral administration of the GUANKE strain, a gram-positive bacterium originally isolated from a healthy individual, on SARS-CoV-2 infection in a human ACE2 transgenic mouse model.
