Background: Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) represent a high-risk group for HIV transmission in Romania, yet they possess few resources for prevention. Despite having no formal access to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) through the health system, GBMSM in Romania demonstrate a high need for and interest in this medication. In anticipation of a national rollout of PrEP, this study tests the efficacy of a novel strategy, Prepare Romania, that combines two evidence-based PrEP promotion interventions for GBMSM living in Romania.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates two important zoonotic protozoan pathogens that affect humans and other animals, focusing on their prevalence in Northwestern Romania, where data is limited.
  • Researchers analyzed 426 fecal samples from hospitalized patients between June 2022 and January 2024, using tests and molecular techniques to identify the parasites.
  • Findings showed that 2.82% of samples contained one parasite and 0.94% contained another; symptomatic patients reported significantly more nausea and vomiting, highlighting the need for better understanding and management of these infections.

In this observational pilot study, we investigated the impact of Dolutegravir, Raltegravir, Elvitegravir (Integrase Strand Transfer Inhibitors, INSTIs), or boosted Darunavir (a Protease Inhibitor, PI) in combination with two nucleoside reverstranscriptase inhibitors (Emtricitabine/Tenofovir disoproxil or Lamivudine/Tenofovir disoproxil, NRTI) on four interleukins (IL-4, IL-10, IL-13, and IL-21) as immune activation markers in naïve HIV(Human Immunodeficiency Virus)-infected patients during the first six months of combined standard-of-care antiretroviral therapy (cART). Newly diagnosed with HIV-infected subjects and without any disease that could affect the immune activation markers were evaluated. The patients' physicians recommended the cART as standard-of-care and the ILs were measured before cART and six months of cART.

The current study evaluated the progress of continuum healthcare for patients living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection from Cluj County in two moments, 2016 and 2020, and compared the results to the Fast-Track targets (FTTs) proposed by the Joint United Nations Programme (UNAIDS) on HIV/AIDS. By the end of 2020, 368 out of 385 confirmed HIV-positive patients from Cluj County were under surveillance in our center, representing almost 95% of the patients living with HIV and knowing their diagnosis, compared to 87.9% in 2016.

Homogeneous tertiary ,-dimethyl--β-lauryl/myristyl 7/3 polyethyleneoxy n = 3-18 ethylamines, LM(EO)AT, are niche intermediates in the synthesis of homogeneous -alkyl (C-C)-,-dimethyl--β-lauryl/myristyl 7/3 polyethyleneoxy n = 3-18 ethylammonium chlorides (unitary degree of oligomerization of ethylene oxide in the polyoxyethylene chain). This paper synthetically presents the dependence of the reductive methylation yields of homogeneous primary β-lauryl/myristyl 7/3 polyethyleneoxy n = 3-18 ethylamines, LM(EO)AP, on the reaction time (10-90 min), the temperature (70 °C), the molar ratio formic aldehyde /LM(EO)AP (1.1/1-2.

Objective: Netazepide (YF476) is a recently developed, orally active gastrin receptor antagonist that, in short trials in patients with type 1 gastric enterochromaffin-like cell neuroendocrine tumours, has been shown to induce a significant reduction in the number and size of tumours as well as serum chromogranin A (CgA). The aim of this review is to evaluate the long-term effect and safety of netazepide.

Patients And Methods: Five patients previously treated with netazepide in an open-label trial were offered continuous treatment with netazepide 25 mg once daily.

Objective: Vagotomy causes inhibition of basal and post-prandial acid secretion in humans, but the knowledge about the trophic effect of the vagal nerves is limited. Vagotomy is known to induce hypergastrinemia and we aimed to study the long-term effects of proximal gastric vagotomy (PGV) on the oxyntic mucosa and the enterochromaffin-like (ECL) cell density in particular.

Material And Methods: Eleven patients operated with PGV because of duodenal ulcer and age- and sex-matched controls were examined 26 to 29 years postoperatively by gastroscopy with biopsies from the antrum and oxyntic mucosa.
