The research on bioactive secondary metabolites from Aspergillus fumigatus afforded six compounds, which were identified by mass spectrometer (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopic analysis as cyclopyazonic acid (1), trypacidin A (2), asterric acid (3), methyl asterrate (4), demethylcitreoviranol (5), as well as (5-hydroxy-2-oxo-2H-pyran-4-yl) methyl acetate (6). Cyclopyazonic acid (1) was found to have potent antibacterial effects, especially against Bacillus licheniformis with minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) value of 3.7μg/mL.

The effects of different three carbon sources, that is, glucose, fructose, and sucrose, on production, molecular properties and antiproliferative activity of exopolysaccharide (EPS), were evaluated in the submerged culture of Scleroderma areolatum Ehrenb. Among carbon sources examined, the addition of sucrose maximizes the mycelia production, while fructose could maximize the EPS yield. Although the predominant carbohydrate compositions identified were gluconic acid and mannose, the monosaccharide composition of EPSs was also different significantly.

In this study, bacterial cellulose (BC) was synthesized by Acetobacter xylinum ATCC 23767 using tobacco waste extract (TWE) as a carbon source. Nicotine was found to be an inhibitory factor for BC synthesis, but it can be removed at pH 9.0 by steam distillation.

We demonstrate the fabrication of the large-area arrays of vertically aligned Si/SiO nanowires with full tunability of the geometry of the single nanowires by the metal-assisted chemical etching technique and the following thermal oxidation process. To fabricate the geometry controllable Si/SiO nanowire (NW) arrays, two critical issues relating with the size control of polystyrene reduction and oxide thickness evolution are investigated. Through analyzing the morphology evolutions of polystyrene particles, we give a quantitative description on the diameter variations of polystyrene particles with the etching time of plasma etching.

We have fabricated organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite solar cell that uses a Ti/Au multilayer as cathode and does not use electron transport materials, and achieved the highest power conversion efficiency close to 13% with high reproducibility and hysteresis-free photocurrent curves. Our cell has a Schottky planar heterojunction structure (ITO/PEDOT:PSS/perovskite/Ti/Au), in which the Ti insertion layer isolate the perovskite and Au layers, thus proving good contact between the Au and perovskite and increasing the cells' shunt resistance greatly. Moreover, the Ti/Au cathode in direct contact with hybrid perovskite showed no reaction for a long-term exposure to the air, and can provide sufficient protection and avoid the perovskite and PEDOT:PSS layers contact with moisture.

Dicycloplatin is a new generation supramolecular platinum-containing anti-cancer drug. Due to its structure, it is difficult to differentiate dicycloplatin from physical mixtures of carboplatin and cyclobutane dicarboxylate, and confounding results may arise during drug characterization. To solve this problem, this study aims to provide a reliable and reproducible standard for the determination of dicycloplatin.

The title compound, C28H34ClNO2 {systematic name: (E)-1-(4-chloro-phen-yl)ethanone O-[(1R,4aS,10aR)-7-isopropyl-1,4a-di-methyl-1,2,3,4,4a,9,10,10a-octa-hydro-phenanthrene-1-carbonyl]oxime}, was synthesized from de-hydro-abietic acid. In the de-hydro-abietyl moiety, the central and terminal cyclo-hexane rings display chair and half-chair conformations, respectively, and a trans-ring junction. The C=N bond is in an E conformation and the C-O-N=C torsion angle is 148.

Chitosan-coated calcium silicate hydrate (CSH/chitosan) mesoporous microspheres formed by self-assembly of nanosheets have been synthesized in aqueous solution under ambient conditions without using any toxic surfactant or organic solvent. The method reported herein has advantages of simplicity, low cost and being environmentally friendly. The BET specific surface area of CSH/chitosan mesoporous microspheres is measured to be as high as ~356 m(2) g(-1), which is considerably high among calcium silicate materials.

In this study, the hypolipidemic effect of exopolysaccharides (EPS) from Pleurotus geesteranus 5# fermenting liquor by the optimal culture conditions in a 5-L stirred-tank reactor was investigated. The hypolipidemic effect of the polysaccharide, investigated in streptozotocin induced diabetic mice, decreased plasma glucose, total cholesterol and triacylglycerol concentrations by 17.1 %, 18.
