A novel noninasive method was developed for determining glucose levels in human exhaled breath and saliva using ion chromatography. This innovative approach involves collecting exhaled breath and saliva samples using a self-designed condensation device and non-stimulative method to ensure minimal participant discomfort. The glucose contents in both exhaled breath condensate (EBC) and saliva were analyzed using ion chromatography, which is highly sensitive and specific.

Biocontrol microbial metabolites have been shown to enhance plant resistance against parasitic plants, yet the underlying microbial mechanisms remain poorly understood. In this study, we investigated the role of JTF001 (J1) microbial metabolites in recruiting beneficial microbes to the tomato rhizosphere and promoting the establishment of a disease-suppressive microbiome.

Background: The incidence and mortality rates of cancer are the highest globally. Developing novel methodologies that precisely, safely, and economically differentiate between benign and malignant lung conditions holds immense clinical importance. This research seeks to construct a predictive model utilizing a combination of diverse biomarkers to effectively discriminate between benign and malignant lung diseases.

Compared to the classical FSDR methods, such as functional sliced inverse regression and functional sliced average variance estimation, the proposed methods are appealing because they are capable of estimating multiple effective dimension reduction directions in the case of a relatively small number of categories, especially for the binary response. Moreover, the proposed methods do not require the restrictive linear conditional mean assumption and the constant covariance assumption.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAccident Tolerant Fuel (ATF) is a next-generation fuel technology developed to enhance the fundamental safety of light water reactors. Compared to existing standard fuel technologies, ATF technology can provide the same or better performance during normal operation, transient conditions, and accident scenarios of nuclear power plants, enhancing the ability of fuel elements to withstand severe accidents while reducing the cost of generating electricity over the licensed life of the plants. This paper introduces the definition, characteristics and thermal-hydraulic research objectives of ATF technology, systematically reviews the thermal-hydraulic research results of different ATF technologies in various aspects from the perspectives of near-term concepts (UO-based composite fuels, coated Zr-based claddings, FeCrAl claddings) and long-term concepts (high-uranium-density UN fuels, FCM fuels, extruded metal fuels, SiC/SiC claddings), respectively.

This study reports the development of a biomimetic nanosystem, termed R-CM@MSN@BC, integrating mesoporous organosilicon nanoparticles with reactive oxygen species-responsive diselenide bonds for controlled release of the glutamine metabolism inhibitor bis-2-(5-phenylacetamido-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl) ethyl sulfide (BPTES) and the photosensitizer Ce6. Erythrocyte membrane coating, engineered with Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) peptides, not only enhanced biocompatibility but also improved tumor targeting and tissue penetration.

However, its clinical application is hindered by poor bioavailability, rapid elimination, and extensive intestinal metabolism to rotundic acid. To address these issues, a water-soluble inclusion complex of pedunculoside, namely, the beta-CD polymer inclusion complex of pedunculoside (pedunculoside-βCDP), was prepared in this study, and a comparative in vitro stability and pharmacokinetic behavior study was performed between pedunculoside and pedunculoside-βCDP.

Despite its good recyclability, the willingness of PS recycling remains low, largely due to the high recycling cost and limited profitability. This review examines the research progresses, gaps, and challenges in areas that affect the recycling costs, including but not limited to logistics, packaging design, and policymaking.

Our goal was to assess the prognosis of LUSC patients with a second primary tumor, and provide insights into appropriate therapy and monitoring strategies.
Methods: Data was obtained for LUSC patients from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database.
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a minimally invasive and controllable local cancer treatment for cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). However, the efficacy of PDT is hindered by intratumoral hypoxia and the presence of an antioxidant microenvironment. To address these limitations, combining PDT with gas therapy may be a promising strategy to enhance tumor oxygenation.
