A method was found to construct sulfur-containing five- and six-membered heterocyclic alkyl sulfonyl compounds by using visible light and free radicals activated and/or generated by EDA complexes/homolytic cleavage as initiators to stimulate the relay reaction of alkynes/alkynones. This method puts forward a new strategy to initiate alkyl sulfonation of alkynes/alkynones with only a catalytic amount of the initiator. This strategy of generating the initiator by EDA complex activation/homolytic cleavage provides a new idea for the following substances that must be excited.

Biogas can be used for complementary load-balancing with renewable intermittent power, thus maintaining overall energy output stability. However, biogas load balancing load balancing is typically used in small-scale distributed energy systems, constrained by factors such as technology and land requirements, making it challenging to scale up. Therefore, this study proposes a closed-loop ecological cycle system, where biogas provides load leveling support for large-scale intermittent power sources in desertified regions dominated by animal husbandry.

The BET family proteins play pleiotropic roles in the tumorigenesis and growth of various human malignancies that have aroused great interests as the cancer therapeutic targets. Therefore, it's significant to develop labeling toolkits for the dynamic monitoring of BET family proteins in living tumor cells and tissue slices. In particular, there are few small-molecule fluorescent probes based on BET family proteins developed for real-time imaging of these proteins in tumor cells and tissues and treatment of breast cancer.

The pursuit of methods to enhance the purity of food-sourced bioactive peptides continues to pose significant challenges. This study introduces an innovative approach to enrich antioxidant peptides by using zinc ion coordination to augment the foaming capabilities of oat peptides. The resulting antioxidant peptide fraction (AF) accounted for 18 % of the oat globulin hydrolysates, with a significant increase (22-47 %) in scavenging activity against 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), OH, and O radicals.

A sharp increase in intramedullary pressure after spinal cord injury (SCI) can aggravate secondary injury and lead to severe neurological deficits. Unfortunately, effective treatment options are currently lacking. The mechanosensitive ion channel Piezo1 plays an important role in the pathological process of SCI by transducing mechanical stress.

Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) is an aggressive subtype of peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) characterized by its T-follicular helper (TFH) phenotype. Relapsed and refractory disease is common in AITL and often associated with a poor prognosis. The presence of epigenetic abnormalities, immune dysregulation, hyperinflammation and active angiogenesis in AITL offers potential targets for histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors and immunomodulatory drugs (IMiDs).

Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) has become a major threat in the treatment of bacterial infection, and immunotherapy in a non-antibiotic-dependent manner is an effective way to overcome CRAB infection. However, the role of the innate immune response in CRAB infection is poorly understood. Here, it is reported that CRAB infection induced a cytosolic DNA-sensing signaling pathway and significant IFN-β production in mice post-CRAB infection.

Human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) play important roles in the development of infants, which are the third most abundant component in human milk. -Acetyllactosamine (LacNAc) is an important intermediate for the biosynthesis of other HMOs and antigens. Since currently appropriate synthetic methods for large-scale production of LacNAc are not available, it is urgently needed to develop an efficient and cost-effective synthetic pathway for LacNAc preparation.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examines the role of PSMD6, a component of the proteasome, in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC), a challenging cancer that needs more research to understand its mechanisms.
  • - Researchers used techniques like CRISPR knockout screening and immunohistochemistry on tissue samples to investigate PSMD6's expression and its impact on ICC cell growth.
  • - Findings revealed that PSMD6 is crucial for ICC cell proliferation and is notably overexpressed in cancerous tissues, although it does not significantly correlate with patient demographics or cancer staging.

Induction regimens with satisfactory remission rates are limited for patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) who are elderly or ineligible for intensive chemotherapy. This study is a single-arm, multicenter, prospective phase I/II study (registered with the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry as ChiCTR 2200059694 on May 8, 2022), aiming to evaluate the efficacy and safety of venetoclax plus decitabine, cytarabine, aclarubicin, and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (VD-CAG) for newly diagnosed AML patients who are elderly or ineligible for intensive chemotherapy. The primary endpoint was composite complete remission (CRc) after 1 cycle of induction chemotherapy.

  • Genetic factors may significantly impact erectile dysfunction (ED), but identifying specific genes remains challenging due to limited research.
  • A study used data from the Finnish database Finngen, analyzing 1154 ED cases and 94,024 controls through Mendelian randomisation, highlighting potential pathogenic genes.
  • Among 110 identified genes, MDM4 was found to have the strongest association with ED risk, suggesting it could play an important role in personalized treatment strategies for patients.

Atorvastatin (ATV) is a representative for hypolipidemic pharmaceuticals and is widely detectable in aquatic environments around the world. However, there are limited studies on the potential effects of ATV on aquatic non-target organisms, especially on aquatic invertebrates. In the present study, the model organism, Daphnia magna was used to investigate the responses of antioxidant system, autophagy process and energy metabolism under the acute exposure of ATV (24 h-96 h), and the changes of physiological parameters of D.

Background: All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and arsenic trioxide (ATO) have revolutionized the treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). However, the management of high-risk APL has not been conclusively established. The optimal dosage of anthracycline in the induction has long been debated when ATO is added.

Achievement of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) targets is crucial for the prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in individuals with dyslipidaemia who are at high risk. Current guidelines recommend high-intensity statins at the highest tolerated dose as initial treatment to achieve LDL-C goals. However, the real-world situation is dismal: high-intensity statins are underused and achievement of LDL-C goals is suboptimal.

Herein, we disclose a readily available phenothiazine derivative as an organocatalyst, which upon excitation with 371 nm light acquires a strongly reducing power and serves to induce the radical cascade difluoromethylation/cyclization reaction of -homoallylacetohydrazides. A variety of CFCOR-tetrahydropyridazines have been obtained in moderate to excellent yields. This catalytic platform proceeds under metal-free conditions with a wide substrate scope and broad functional group compatibility, which unlocks the new reactivity of phenothiazine derivatives and adds significant synthetic value to -heterocycles.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a major threat to public health globally. A large proportion of people with dyslipidaemia have poorly controlled lipid levels, emphasizing the need for alternative lipid-lowering treatments that are both effective and safe. Xuezhikang, a red yeast rice (RYR) extract, containing 13 kinds of monacolins and other bioactive components, emerges as one such promising option.

The incidence of brain metastasis (BM) is gradually increasing, and the prognosis and therapeutic effect are poor. The emergence of immunotherapy has brought hope for the development of BM treatments. This study revealed that compared with primary cancers, BMs have a colder and more acidic tumor microenvironment (TME), resulting in reduced protein levels of mesothelin (MSLN), a promising target for chimeric antigen receptor-T (CAR-T) cell therapy for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) with BMs.
