It is well known that an important step toward understanding the functions of a protein is to determine its subcellular location. Although numerous prediction algorithms have been developed, most of them typically focused on the proteins with only one location. In recent years, researchers have begun to pay attention to the subcellular localization prediction of the proteins with multiple sites.

Objective: To investigate the effect of gradually induced disordered occlusion (GIDO) on the expression of osteoprotegerin (OPG) and receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappaB ligand (RANKL) in mandibular condylar cartilage of rats.

Methods: Totally 48 rats, aged 8 weeks were included, and were divided into experimental and control groups randomly at 4 time points, with same gender distribution (n=3). By inserting elastic rubber band the right side mandibular first molar and the left side maxillary first molar were moved mesially.

Background: It has been established that disparities by ethnicity in the rates of breast cancer diagnoses and disease-specific survival (DSS) exist in the United States. However, few studies have assessed differences specifically between Asians and other ethnic groups or among Asian subgroups.

Methods: The authors used the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database to identify patients who were diagnosed with invasive breast cancer between 1988 and 2008.

Background: Although socioeconomic status (SES) has been focused on as a key determinant of cancer stage at diagosis in western countries, there has been no systemic study on the relationship of SES and breast cancer stage at diagnosis in China.

Methods: The medical charts of 4,211 eligible breast cancer patients from 7 areas across China who were diagnosed between 1999 and 2008 were reviewed. Four area-based socioeconomic indicators were used to calculate area-based SES by cluster analysis.

The aim of this study was to establish a bioluminescent MDA-MB-231 cell line stably expressing luciferase and green fluorescent protein for the generation of a xenografted model of human triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) in nude mice. Lentivirus vectors carrying eGFP, firefly luc2 and neo fusion genes were used to transduce the MDA-MB-231 human TNBC cells in vitro. After 8 weeks of G418 selection, eGFP and luc2 expression was determined using a fluorescence microscope and a Xenogen IVIS200 bioluminescent imaging system, respectively.

Objective: Identification of the primary tumour can prolong the life expectancy of patients with primary unknown cervical lymph node metastasis (PUCLNM) through targeted therapy. This study investigated the value of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG PET-CT) at identifying primaries in patients with PUCLNM.

Methods: Twenty-seven patients (21 males and 6 females, median age 48.

The structure of a Q-modulated distributed feedback laser is designed and simulated. A large reflectivity modulation of the rear reflector is achieved by using an anti-resonant cavity formed by two deep trenches with the one between the modulator and phase section filled by a high index dielectric material. The travelling wave model is presented to analyze the high speed performance of the laser.

Purpose: To analyze the epidemiologic characteristics and recurrence factors of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in northwest China.

Patients And Methods: Patients with OSCC whose first visits to the Stomatology Hospital of the Fourth Military Medical University from January 2007 through December 2008 were investigated. The epidemiologic risk factors and recurrence of OSCC were studied with logistic regression and a Cox regression model.

Objective: To establish a bioluminescent MDA-MB-231 cell line which can stably express luciferase and green fluorescent protein to allow bioluminescent imaging in nude mouse models bearing human triple-negative breast cancer xenografts.

Methods: The lentivirus carrying luc2, eGFP and neo fusion genes were packaged in 293T cells via calcium phosphate co-precipitation. Human triple-negative breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231 was infected by the lentivirus, and the positive cell clones were tested for eGFP and luc2 expressions by fluorescence microscopy and Xenogen IVIS200 bioluminescent imaging system, respectively.

We report the first experimental demonstration of a single-electrode-controlled digitally wavelength switchable V-coupled-cavity laser with high side-mode-suppression-ratio (SMSR) in the 40 dB range. Sixteen-channel and twenty-six channel wavelength switchable lasers with 100 GHz spacing are demonstrated with the maximal SMSR of 40 dB and 37 dB, respectively. They do not require complex gratings, multiple epitaxial growths, or complex tuning algorithms.

Background: According to the very limited cancer registry, incidence and mortality rates for female breast cancer in China are regarded to be increasing especially in the metropolitan areas. Representative data on the breast cancer profile of Chinese women and its time trend over years are relatively rare. The aims of the current study are to illustrate the breast cancer profile of Chinese women in time span and to explore the current treatment approaches to female breast cancer.

The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that condylar and occlusion asymmetry are not associated. For each of 22 skulls, the asymmetry of condyles was graded by one examiner and the asymmetry of occlusion by another examiner, both blinded to each other's evaluation, as 0 = symmetrical, 1 = mild asymmetrical and 2 = severe asymmetrical. There were 18 condyles graded the same as to their occlusion, but in four, the grades differed by one degree.

Steroid receptor coactivator-3 (SRC-3), also known as AIB1, is a member of the p160 steroid receptor coactivator family. Since SRC-3 was found to be amplified in breast cancer in 1997, the role of SRC-3 in cancer has been broadly investigated. SRC-3 initially was identified as a transcriptional coactivator for nuclear receptors such as the estrogen receptor (ER), involved in the proliferation of hormone-dependent cancers.

A novel 1,7-palladium migration-cyclization-dealkylation sequence for the regioselective synthesis of benzotriazoles has been developed. These reactions proceed in excellent yields with high regioselectivities. The mechanism of the reaction has also been investigated.

A highly sensitive optical waveguide sensor based on simple intensity interrogation with a broadband light source is proposed and investigated. It consists of two cascaded microring resonators with the same or slightly different free spectral ranges. The variation of the refractive index of the analyte sample results in a large shift in the envelope function of the transmission peaks of the sensor, and, consequently, a large change in the transmitted power.

Boron doped graphite nano particles were used as functioning elements for creation of electrodes for the detection of uric acid in biological samples. The electrode obtained in this manner was capable of oxidizing ascorbic acid at lower potentials. This provided a desirable solution to the interfering problem encountered in the detection of uric acid in biological samples caused by ascorbic acid.

Flavan-3-ols consist of flavan-3-ol monomers and polymers with different degrees of polymerization (DP). In this study, flavan-3-ol extracts from grape seeds were well separated into three fractions including monomers, oligomers (2 < DP < 10) and polymers (DP > 10), by means of normal-phase HPLC-MS. The different patterns of these three fractions were analyzed in three Vitis vinifera cultivars ('Shiraz', 'Cabernet Sauvignon' and 'Marselan') seeds from veraison to harvest.
