Three-dimensional (3D) organotypic skin in vitro has attracted increasing attention for drug development, cosmetics evaluation, and even clinical applications. However, the severe contraction of these models restricts their application, especially in the analyses based on barrier functions such as percutaneous penetration. For the full-thickness skin equivalents, the mechanical properties of the dermis scaffold plays an important role in the contraction resistance.

Background: It is challenging to simultaneously conduct total endovascular repair and reconstruct the left subclavian artery (LSA) and isolated left vertebral artery (ILVA) in patients who had an ILVA and required zone 2 anchoring. This pilot study reported the initial application experience of thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) with a proximal zone 2 landing for aortic arch reconstruction in patients with ILVA.

Methods: This study was a retrospective consecutive single-center case series analysis, which involved four patients with ILVA who required zone 2 anchoring and received TEVAR combined with a single-branched stent graft and concomitant on-table fenestration between March 2021 and December 2022.

Objective: Acute liver and kidney injury is the most common complication after aortic surgery, which seriously affects the survival and safety of perioperative patients. The presence of chronic preoperative liver and renal insufficiency, presence of preoperative blood inflammation indicators, duration of intraoperative extracorporeal circulation, and volume of red blood cell transfusion are the main influencing factors for acute postoperative liver and kidney injuries. In recent years, with the research progress on oxidative stress, a growing body of evidence has demonstrated that oxidative stress may cause tissue damage after ischemia-reperfusion (IR).

Article Synopsis
  • DNA methylation plays a significant role in the development of cardiac diseases, particularly myocardial hypertrophy, but the interplay between DNA methylation and RNA m6A methylation remains unclear.
  • A study found that the enzyme DNMT1 was downregulated in models of cardiac stress, and its overexpression helped reduce cell death caused by Angiotensin II (Ang II).
  • The research indicates that DNMT1 can inhibit the expression of METTL3, and the balance between these two is crucial for understanding their combined effect on cell health during cardiac hypertrophy.

A coronary aneurysm is a rare type of cardiovascular disease. We report a case of a 53-year-old male patient who presented to our hospital with a giant left circumflex coronary fistula aneurysm (LCCA) (75 mm × 70 mm). Since coronary angiography and coronary computed tomography angiography failed to detect the fistula of the coronary aneurysm, interventional occlusion surgery could not be performed.

In vitro skin models are rapidly developing and have been widely used in various fields as an alternative to traditional animal experiments. However, most traditional static skin models are constructed on Transwell plates without a dynamic three-dimensional (3D) culture microenvironment. Compared with native human and animal skin, such in vitro skin models are not completely biomimetic, especially regarding their thickness and permeability.

Vein grafts are widely used for coronary artery bypass grafting and hemodialysis access, but restenosis remains the "Achilles' heel" of these treatments. An extravascular stent is one wrapped around the vein graft and provides mechanical strength; it can buffer high arterial pressure and secondary vascular dilation of the vein to prevent restenosis. In this study, we developed a novel Nanocellulose-gelatin hydrogel, loaded with the drug Astragaloside IV (AS-IV) as an extravascular scaffold to investigate its ability to reduce restenosis.
