F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (F-FDG PET) has been widely utilized for tumor diagnosis. Hyperglycemia affects the F-FDG uptake and reduces tumor-to-tissue contrasts, however, ideal hypoglycemic drugs are lacking. This study compared the role of insulin with the novel widely used hypoglycemic drug, sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, on F-FDG PET imaging in diabetic conditions.

Application of postmortem computed tomography angiography to settle a medical dispute after aortic dissection surgery: a forensic case report.

Background: In the present case, we applied postmortem computed tomography angiography (PMCTA) in a medical dispute involving sudden death after cardiovascular surgery.

Case Presentation: A 39-year-old man underwent aortic arch replacement combined with stented elephant trunk implantation surgery under extracorporeal circulation. All vital signs were stable and he was arranged for discharge seven days after surgery.

Methods: A randomized, double blind, placebo controlled clinical trial was conducted. A total of 200 COVID-19 patients in the recovery phase were included in our study in Ezhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Objective: Tobacco smoke contains carcinogens known to damage somatic and germ cells. In this study, we investigated the effect of tobacco smoking on the risk of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and myeloid leukemia (AML).

Methods: Information about tobacco smoking exposures of the mother before, during, and after pregnancy was collected via PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases through November 5, 2018.

Inhaled budesonide and salbutamol represent the most important and frequently used drugs in asthmatic children during acute exacerbation. However, there is still no consensus about their resulting metabolic derangements; thus, this study was conducted to determine the distinct metabolic profiles of these two drugs. A total of 69 children with asthma during acute exacerbation were included, and their serum and urine were investigated using high-resolution nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).

Acute ascent to high altitudes beyond 2400 m (300 feet) can cause acute mountain sickness (AMS) and may develop into life-threatening complications such as high altitude cerebral (HACE) and pulmonary edema (HAPE). We report a case of acute kidney injury (AKI) without other organ involvement in a previously healthy young man after sudden high altitude exposure of up to 5200 m. Acute systemic hypoxia as well as prolonged renal hypoperfusion may be responsible for his kidney injury.

The renin-angiotensin system exerts a profound regulatory effect on the functional features of dendritic cells (DCs), thus suggesting a new target of angiotensin II (Ang II) action in the immune system. This study analyzed whether peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPAR-gamma) activation in DCs regulated Ang II-induced activation of DCs and exploited the possible molecular mechanisms, especially focused on the signaling pathways of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kappaB). Ang II stimulation of human monocyte-derived DCs resulted in an intermediate state of DC maturation and function via modulating the balance of the negative or positive regulation of the signaling pathways of extracellular regulated kinase (ERK), p38 MAPK and NF-kappaB, but not c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK).
