In this paper, the effect of thyroid collars on radiation dose during dental cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) was evaluated using Monte Carlo simulations and to calculate the effective dose underestimated for the actual CBCT examination due to accounting only for the head and neck. Three thyroid collar models that covered the surface of the phantom were established according to the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) adult-male mesh-type reference computational phantoms, and a Particle and Heavy Ion Transport code System was used to calculate the equivalent and effective doses of ICRP phantom when different thyroid shielding protocols were used in NewTom VGi evo CBCT, considering one medium (12 × 8 cm) and one small (8 × 5 cm) fields of view (FOVs), and two centre positions were used for each FOV. In four CBCT scanning scenarios, thyroid shielding reduced the equivalent dose for many tissues.

In a multicenter case-control investigation, we assessed the efficacy of the Electrooculogram Signal Analysis (EOG-SA) method, which integrates attention-related visual evocation, electrooculography, and nonlinear analysis, for distinguishing between intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and typical development (TD) in children. Analyzing 127 participants (63 IDD, 64 TD), we applied nonlinear dynamics for feature extraction. Results indicated EOG-SA's capability to distinguish IDD, with higher template thresholds and Correlation Dimension values correlating with clinical severity.

Liver cancer causes upwards of 1 million cancer deaths annually and is projected to rise by at least 55% over the next 15 years. Two of the major risk factors contributing to liver cancer have been well documented by multiple epidemiologic studies and the hepatitis B virus (HBV) and aflatoxin show a synergy that increases by more than 8-fold the risk of liver cancer relative to HBV alone. Using the population-based cancer registry established by the Qidong Liver Cancer Institute in 1972 and aflatoxin-specific biomarkers, we document that reduction of aflatoxin exposure has likely contributed to a nearly 70% decline in age-standardized liver cancer incidence over the past 30 years despite an unchanging prevalence of HBV infection in cases.

Physical exercise has beneficial effect on anxiety disorders, but the underlying molecular mechanism remains largely unknown. Here, it is demonstrated that physical exercise can downregulate the S-nitrosylation of gephyrin (SNO-gephyrin) in the basolateral amygdala (BLA) to exert anxiolytic effects. It is found that the level of SNO-gephyrin is significantly increased in the BLA of high-anxiety rats and a downregulation of SNO-gephyrin at cysteines 212 and 284 produced anxiolytic effect.

The aim of this meta-analysis was to investigate the relationship between the baseline systemic immune inflammatory index (SII) and prognosis in patients with NSCLC. The relation between pretreatment SII and overall survival, disease-free survival, cancer-specific survival, progression-free survival and recurrence-free survival in NSCLC patients was analyzed combined with hazard ratio and 95% CI. The results showed that high SII was significantly correlated with overall survival and progression-free survival of NSCLC patients, but not with disease-free survival, cancer-specific survival and recurrence-free survival.
