Artemisinin and its derivatives (ARTs) are being studied for their potential anti-tumor activity. Dimerization of artemisinin has been proposed as a promising means of enhancing drug efficacy. However, the sequential progression from monomers to dimers and trimers, retaining a consistent β-configuration, has not been previously investigated in terms of its effect on compound activity.

Background: The DCDDaily-questionnaire (DCDDaliy-Q) evaluates children's performance and participation in motor-based activities of daily living (ADLs), meeting diagnostic criterion B for developmental coordination disorder (DCD). Currently, there are no Chinese translations or growth references available. Thus, this study aimed to culturally adapt, validate, and establish reference norms for the DCDDaily-Q in Chinese children.

Objectives: To identify instruments assessing the activity and participation of children with developmental coordination disorder (DCD) and analyze the quality and current level of evidence regarding their measurement properties.

Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in January 2023 on PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, Chinese Biomedical Databases, Wanfang and China National Knowledge Infrastructure to identify psychometric studies of instruments used to assess activity and participation in children with DCD. The selection process involved 2 independent reviewers who assessed the quality and level of evidence for each instrument using the COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health status Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) checklist.

Article Synopsis
  • * It explores the deformation characteristics of both the surrounding rock and anchoring materials, as well as how stress waves behave in anchor rods during different levels of shear deformation.
  • * A new non-destructive testing method is introduced to measure shear deformation by analyzing stress wave energy, showing reliable results that could improve testing methods for anchor rods in real-world conditions.

Environmental factors such as mountain tectonic movements and monsoons can enhance genetic differentiation by hindering inter- and intra-specific gene flow. However, the phylogeographic breaks detected within species may differ depending on the different molecular markers used, and biological traits may be a major confounding factor. is a vulnerable relict species distributed throughout the Sichuan Basin.

Inflammation is a vital and normal physiological response; however, excessive inflammation can contribute to the development of various diseases. Artemisia sieversiana, a traditional Chinese medicinal plant, contains a variety of chemical compounds. One such compound, 3-oxo-11αH-germacra-1(10)E,4Z-dien-12,6α-olide, a germacranolide sesquiterpenoid (germacranolide, GMO), has not been thoroughly investigated regarding its potential anti-inflammatory properties.

Article Synopsis
  • - A photocatalytic composite made of Cu2O/TiO2 (CuTi) was tested for its ability to kill the bacterium Xanthomonas campestris, which infects Brassica napus seedlings, showing high effectiveness with a 100% bactericidal rate at 150 μg/ml in 120 minutes.
  • - The study established the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) for X. campestris as 8 μg/ml and 32 μg/ml, respectively, and demonstrated that bacterial cell damage increased with higher CuTi concentrations.
  • - The research also analyzed changes in various oxidants and antioxidants within bacterial cells to understand how CuTi

  • A new compound called ablepharolide, a chlorinated sesquiterpenoid, was isolated from Artemisia blepharolepis, and its structure was confirmed using spectroscopic methods and X-ray analysis.
  • Ablepharolide showed significant growth inhibition of MCF-7 breast cancer cells with an IC value of 8.34±0.77 μM and induced changes in cell morphology while affecting cell proliferation in a time- and dose-dependent manner.
  • Western blot analysis indicated that ablepharolide activated apoptotic pathways by increasing levels of cleaved caspase-8, cleaved caspase-3, and cleaved PARP in MCF-7 cells, suggesting it triggers

Background: Congenital contractures of the limbs and face, hypotonia, and developmental delay (CLIFAHDD) syndrome (OMIM #616266) is an autosomal dominant hereditary disease that can lead to the congenital contracture of the limbs and face, hypotonia, and developmental delay. In addition, it may result in growth retardation and present various clinical symptoms, such as brain atrophy, a small pituitary gland, musculoskeletal abnormalities, abnormal breathing, abdominal hernia, and abnormal facial features. Herein, we describe a novel missense genetic variant in the sodium leak channel, non-selective (NALCN) gene that is associated with CLIFAHDD syndrome.

A new pimarane-type diterpene, ent-8(14),15-pimaradiene-2β,19-diol (JXE-23), was isolated from the fern plant Aleuritopteris albofusca by our previous work; however, the biological activity of this diterpene remains unclear. In the present study, the anti-cancer potential of JXE-23 in various cancer cells was investigated. Among MCF-7 breast cancer cells, A549 lung cancer cells, and HepG2 liver cancer cells, JXE-23 displayed significant cytotoxicity to HepG2 cells with an IC value of 17.

Protecting haploid pollen and spores against UV-B light and high temperature, 2 major stresses inherent to the terrestrial environment, is critical for plant reproduction and dispersal. Here, we show flavonoids play an indispensable role in this process. First, we identified the flavanone naringenin, which serves to defend against UV-B damage, in the sporopollenin wall of all vascular plants tested.

Two new highly functionalized cembrane diterpenoids named ximaolobophytolides A (1) and B (2) as minor components, together with seven related known compounds (3-9), have been isolated and identified from the Ximao soft coral Lobophytum sp. They were characterized by the presence of an α-methylene-γ-lactone moiety. Based on the comprehensive analyses of 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic data, the absolute configurations of these two new compounds were elucidated by the combination of quantum mechanical (QM)-NMR and time-dependent density functional theory/electronic circular dichroism (TDDFT-ECD) calculation approaches.

The present investigation of the South China Sea soft coral resulted in the discovery of six new polyoxygenated diterpenes, namely sartrocheliols A-E (, , -) along with four known ones, , , , and . Based on extensive spectroscopic data analysis, sartrocheliol A () was identified as an uncommon capnosane diterpene, while sartrocheliols B-E (, -) were established as cembrane diterpenes. They displayed diverse structural features not only at the distinctly different carbon frameworks but also at the various types of heterocycles, including the epoxide, γ-lactone, furan, and pyran rings.

The commentary cites a study by Schulte-Rüther et al. (Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, 2022) that proposed a machine learning model to predict a clinical best-estimate diagnosis of ASD when existing other co-occurring diagnoses. We discuss the valuable contribution of this work to developing a reliable computer-assisted diagnosis (CAD) system for ASD and point out that related research can be integrated with other multimodal machine learning methods.

Objective: Our previous study found KCTD10 negatively regulates Notch signaling, but whether KCTD10 regulates human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) carcinogenicity was uncertain.

Methods: We used lentivirus infection to regulate KCTD10 expression in HCC cell lines, then monitored tumor sphere formation rate, cell migration, and tumorigenicity, cancer stem cell (CSC) biomarkers and Notch signaling variation.

Results: Down-regulation of KCTD10 in HCC cell lines (Hep3B and MHCC97H) enhanced the expression of CSC marker genes, promoted self-renewal and tumorigenic ability, and increased the CD133 cell population.
