Background: Total pelvic exenteration is the ultimate solution for rectovesicovaginal fistula caused by radiation therapy, yet total pelvic exenteration frequently causes intraoperative complications and postoperative complications. These complications are responsible for the dysfunction of lower extremities, impaired quality of life, and even the high long-term morbidity rate, thus multidisciplinary cooperation and early intervention for prevention of complications are necessary. Physical therapy was found to reduce the postoperative complications and promote rehabilitation, yet the effect on how physiotherapy prevents and treats complications after total pelvic exenteration and pelvic lymphadenectomy remains unclear.

Introduction: There is no consensus for the horseshoe kidneys with recurrent symptomatic hydronephrosis, so we presented our initial experience with a laparoscopic transmesenteric approach.

Case Presentation: Five patients with symptomatic ureteropelvic junction obstruction were identified by computed tomography urography. The laparoscopic transmesenteric approach was performed in such a way that the mesentery of the small intestine was incised along with the blood vessels longitudinally, and the isthmus was isolated to avoid injury to the mesenteric blood supply; then we cut the isthmus using an endostapler.

Muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) is associated with low survival and high recurrence rates even in cases in which patients receive systemic treatments, such as surgery and chemotherapy. Here, we found that a naturally existing alphavirus, namely, M1, selectively kills bladder cancer cells but not normal cells, findings supported by our observations of changes in viral replication and MIBC and patient-derived MIBC cell apoptosis. Transcriptome analysis revealed that interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) are expressed at low levels in sensitive bladder cancer cells and high levels in resistant cells.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the modified transurethral enucleation and resection of the prostate (M-TUERP) vs the conventional bipolar transurethral resection of the prostate (B-TURP) for the treatment of prostates larger than 80 mL.

Methods: From April 2012 to May 2014, 86 patients with a prostate volume of >80 mL were divided into 2 groups to undergo M-TUERP and B-TURP. In the M-TUERP group, we proposed combining the 12-mm trocar suprapubic cystostomy and using the techniques of "umbrella-shaped resection," "point resection," and "segmental enucleation" to modify the transurethral enucleation and resection of the prostate procedure.
