Background: Hepatic progenitor cells serve not only as the origin of combined hepatocellular cholangiocarcinoma (cHCC-CCA) but are also responsible for malignancy recurrence after surgical resection. Nucleophosmin 1 (NPM1) has been implicated in cancer metastasis and poor prognosis. This study aimed to determine the expression of NPM1 by hepatic progenitor cells in cHCC-CCA and the effects of targeting NPM1 on hepatic progenitor cells and BEL-7402 cells with characteristics of both progenitor cells and cHCC-CCA.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the role of liver progenitor cells in liver regeneration after injury, revealing that they contribute minimally to hepatocyte repopulation immediately after injury, but their involvement increases during recovery.
  • Researchers found that the expression of GITRL in liver progenitor cells plays a significant role in inhibiting the differentiation of these cells into hepatocytes, thereby slowing down liver regeneration.
  • The study also highlights that CD8 T cells exacerbate this inhibition by affecting key signaling pathways, suggesting potential therapeutic targets for enhancing liver regeneration.

Tumor microenvironment (TME) has critical impacts on the pathogenesis of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). However, the molecular mechanism of TME effects on the prognosis of LUAD patients remains unclear. Our study aimed to establish an immune-related gene pair (IRGP) model for prognosis prediction and internal mechanism investigation.

The incidence of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) increased substantially in recent years. A systematic investigation of the metabolic genomics pattern is critical to improve the treatment and prognosis of LUAD. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between tumor microenvironment (TME) and metabolism-related genes of LUAD.

The patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer (CRC) are likely to undergo differential outcomes in clinical survival owing to different pathologic stages. However, signatures in association with pathologic evolution and CRC prognosis are not clearly defined. This study aimed to identify pathologic evolution-related genes in CRC based on both single-cell and bulk transcriptomics.

The stromal microenvironment has been shown to affect the infiltration of esophageal carcinoma (ESCA), which is linked to prognosis. However, the complicated mechanism of how infiltration is influenced by the stromal microenvironment is not well-defined. In this study, a stromal activation classifier was established with ridge cox regression to calculate stroma scores for training (n = 182) and validation cohorts (n = 227) based on the stroma-related 32 hub genes identified by sequential bioinformatics algorithms.

Glucocorticoid-induced glaucoma (GIG) is a chronic optic neuropathy caused by systemic or topical glucocorticoid (GC) treatment, which could eventually lead to permanent vision loss. To investigate the protective effects of rapamycin (RAP) on the trabecular cells during the development of GIG in mice, the effects of RAP on intraocular pressure (IOP), trabecular ultrastructure, and retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) were examined in C57BL/6J female mice treated with dexamethasone acetate (Dex-Ace). The expression of α-actin in trabecular tissue was detected by immunofluorescence, and the autophagic activity of trabecular cells and the expression of GIG-related myocilin and α-actin were detected by immunoblotting.

Background: Accidentally removed parathyroid glands are still challenging in neck surgery, leading to hypoparathyroidism characterized with abnormally low levels of parathyroid hormone. Parathyroid auto-transplantation is usually applied in compensation. To improve the efficiency of parathyroid transplantation, we introduced a method by co-transplanting with adipose-derived cells, including stromal vascular fractions (SVFs) and adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs), and investigated the underlying molecular mechanisms involved in parathyroid transplantation survival.

Growing evidence highlighted the tumor mutational burden (TMB) as an important feature of carcinogenesis and therapeutic efficacy in esophageal cancer (EC). Our study aimed to explore the genomic landscape and the correlation between TMB and immune cell infiltration in EC patients with or without radiotherapy. The EC patients were categorized into high TMB (TMB-H) and low TMB (TMB-L) groups by the ESTIMATE algorithm, and subgroup analysis was performed based on receiving radiotherapy or not.

The growing incidence of cancer raises an urgent need to develop effective diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. With the rapid development of nanomedicine, nanoscale metal-organic frameworks (NMOFs) presented promising potential in various biomedical applications in the last 2 decades, especially in cancer theranostics. Due to the unique features of NMOFs, including structural diversities, enormous porosity, multifunctionality and biocompatibility, they have been widely used to deliver imaging contrast agents and therapeutic drugs.

Breast cancer is a popularly diagnosed malignant tumor. Genomic profiling studies suggest that breast cancer is a disease with heterogeneity. Chemotherapy is one of the chief means to treat breast cancer, while its responses and clinical outcomes vary largely due to the conventional clinicopathological factors and inherent chemosensitivity of breast cancer.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have the main role in the tumorigenesis of breast cancer. In the present study, lncRNA expression profiling was collected to identify a lncRNA expression signature from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. An eight-lncRNA signature was established to predict the survival of patients with estrogen receptor (ER)-positive breast cancer receiving endocrine therapy.
