Molecular photocatalysts designed with earth-abundant elements are rare and challenging in artificial photosynthesis study. Herein, we report a multimetallic FeNa purpurin () complex for the reduction of CO in DMF under visible-light irradiation. The photocatalytic system achieves 91% selectivity and 2625 ± 334 turnovers of CO in 120 h, which is among the highest reported for a noble-metal-free catalyst without an additional photosensitizer.

Development of a specific "light-up" sensor for detection of psychoactive drug has been a great challenge in forensic analysis. To achieve this goal, an aggregation induced emission (AIE) functional monomer containing both phenylboronic group and double bond was synthesized for construction of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) based fluorescent sensor. In this AIE-MIP sensor, the AIE fluorophore could vibrate freely in the absence of the target analyte (cathinone, CAT), while this vibration was restricted after the specific molecular recognition, leading to "light-up" character of the corresponding sensor.

Characterizing the vertical distribution of chlorophyll a in the water column in each oceanic region is crucial for accurate assessment of depth-integrated phytoplankton biomass. In this study, the characteristics of the subsurface chlorophyll maximum (SCM) in the South China Sea (SCS) during the boreal summer were investigated by using bio-optical and hydrological data collected during four cruises from 2008 to 2015. During the boreal summer, a well-developed SCM layer was found to be a prominent feature in the SCS, with the thickness, depth, and magnitude of the SCM exhibiting large spatial variability.

Faithful segregation of X and Y chromosomes requires meiotic recombination to form a crossover between them in the pseudoautosomal region (PAR). Unlike autosomes that have approximately 10-fold more double-strand breaks (DSBs) than crossovers, one crossover must be formed from the one or two DSBs in PARs, implying the existence of a sex chromosome–specific recombination mechanism. Here, we found that RAD51AP2, a meiosis-specific partner of RAD51, is specifically required for the crossover formation on the XY chromosomes, but not autosomes.

Background: Our previous study demonstrated the safety and short-term efficacy of robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS) in clinical N2 (c-N2) stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. From this, the present study was devised, in which the follow-up time and sample size were both extended to explore the long-term efficacy and potential benefit in survival of RATS compared with lobectomy in c-N2 stage NSCLC patients.

Methods: Patients with c-N2 NSCLS were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to accept operation through thoracotomy or RATS.

A pair of axially chiral organic enantiomers were facilely prepared through a one-pot sequential synthesis. They exhibit circularly polarized luminescence activities and have thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) and aggregation-induced emission enhancement properties. Meanwhile, these two enantiomers present remarkable and reversible thermochromism in the crystalline state, enabling dual-colour TADF switching between orange and red.

Exploring the genetic basis of human infertility is currently under intensive investigation. However, only a handful of genes have been validated in animal models as disease-causing genes in infertile men. Thus, to better understand the genetic basis of human spermatogenesis and bridge the knowledge gap between humans and other animal species, we construct the FertilityOnline, a database integrating the literature-curated functional genes during spermatogenesis into an existing spermatogenic database, SpermatogenesisOnline 1.

The heart primarily uses fatty acids as energy substrates. Adipose lipolysis is a major source of fatty acids, particularly under stress conditions. In this study, we showed that mice with selective inactivation of the lipolytic coactivator comparative gene identification-58 (CGI-58) in adipose tissue (FAT-KO mice), relative to their littermate controls, had lower circulating FA levels in the fed and fasted states due to impaired adipose lipolysis.

Niemann-Pick C1-like 1 (NPC1L1) mediates intestinal uptake of dietary and biliary cholesterol and is the target of ezetimibe, a cholesterol absorption inhibitor used to treat hypercholesterolemia. Genetic deletion of NPC1L1 or ezetimibe treatment protects mice from high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity; however, the molecular mechanisms responsible for this therapeutic benefit remain unknown. A major metabolic fate of cholesterol is its conversion to bile acids.

Cells can sense and process various signals. Noise is inevitable in the cell signaling system. In a bacterial community, the mutual conversion between normal cells and persistent cells forms a bidirectional phenotype switching cascade, in which either one can be used as an upstream signal and the other as a downstream signal.

Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is the second most common nonmelanoma skin cancer characterized by high invasiveness, heterogeneity, and mainly occurs in the ultraviolet (UV)-exposed regions of the skin, but its pathogenesis is still unclear. Here, we generated single-cell transcriptome profiles for 350 cells from six primary UV-induced cSCCs, together with matched adjacent skin samples, and three healthy control skin tissues by single-cell RNA-sequencing technology based on Smart-seq2 strategy. A series of bioinformatics analyses and in vitro experiments were used to decipher and validate the critical molecular pattern of cSCC.

P-type nanostructured photodetectors and phototransistors have been widely used in the field of photodetection due to their excellent electrical and optoelectronic characteristics. However, the large dark current of p-type photodetectors will limit the detectivity. Herein, we synthesized small-diameter single-crystalline p-type SnS nanowires (NWs) and then fabricated single SnS NW photodetectors and phototransistors.

After the results of two large, randomized trials, the global implementation of lung cancer screening is of utmost importance. However, coronavirus disease 2019 infections occurring at heightened levels during the current global pandemic and also other respiratory infections can influence scan interpretation and screening safety and uptake. Several respiratory infections can lead to lesions that mimic malignant nodules and other imaging changes suggesting malignancy, leading to an increased level of follow-up procedures or even invasive diagnostic procedures.
