Metallization of 1T-TaS_{2} is generally initiated at the domain boundary of a charge density wave (CDW), at the expense of its long-range order. However, we demonstrate in this study that the metallization of 1T-TaS_{2} can be also realized without breaking the long-range CDW order upon surface alkali doping. By using scanning tunneling microscopy, we find the long-range CDW order is always persisting, and the metallization is instead associated with additional in-gap excitations.

Prostate cancer (PCa) is the second leading cause of death in men, and current studies have shown that circular RNAs (circRNAs) play important roles in its occurrence and development. Detection of circRNAs in PCa cells showed that circ_KATNAL1 is down-regulated, mainly located in the cytoplasm, and contains multiple binding sites of miR-145-3p, which is an anticancer miRNA. RNA immunoprecipitation with anti-AGO2 antibody, RNA pull-down assays with biotin-labeled circ_KATNAL1 probe or an miR-145-3p mimic, and dual luciferase reporter gene assays confirmed that circ_KATNAL1 binds directly to miR-145-3p in cells, and that , which is highly expressed in many types of tumors, is an important target gene of miR-145-3p.

Membrane fouling can be effectively addressed by modifying the membrane to realize anti-fouling capability together with real-time fouling detection. Here, we present the synthesis and water treatment testing of a promising candidate for this application, a composite membrane of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and functionalized carbon nano-materials prepared by a facile phase inversion method. The synergistic effect of oxidized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (OMWCNTs) and graphene oxide (GO) enabled better surface pore structures, higher surface roughness, hydrophilicity, and better antifouling property as compared with that of pristine PVDF membranes.

Cucurbitacin B (CuB), a highly cytotoxic constituent of the Cucurbitaceae plant, was identified to exhibit potent inhibitory activity against human cancer cells as well as normal cells. In this paper, we propose a new calibration method for long-focal-length measurement using a double-grating interferometer. A numerical analysis of the relative error in measurement proves that the main factor affecting accuracy is the angle of inclination between grating grids. Hence, we present a least-squares calibration method using a series of lenses to correct this error.

Denervation caused by sciatic nerve injury has brought great harm to the patients, especially denervation-induced muscle atrophy. The body stress produces a large number of Schwann cells when the sciatic nerve is injured, and the cells secrete some cytokines including ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) that not only play a role in promoting the repair of sciatic nerve, but also maintain the normal physiological function of the muscles surrounding the damaged nerves. CNTF upregulates janus kinase 2 (JAK2) and signal transducers and activators of transcription 3 (STAT3) signals in myoblasts, and consequently accelerates the proliferation and differentiation of myoblasts.

In this Letter, dynamic phase-deforming interferometry (PDI) is proposed to solve the impact of environmental vibration and air turbulence on the measurement accuracy. Two interference passes, namely, the measurement pass (MP) and carrier-frequency pass (CP), are constructed, utilizing one detector to acquire the fringe patterns of the two passes simultaneously. The relative deformation phases of the CP fringe patterns are calculated with the Fourier transform method; then the phase extraction of the MP is performed via the least squares method to obtain the final phase distribution.
