Article Synopsis
  • Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is a severe condition often requiring ICU treatment, and the study investigates the relationship between serum levels of RIPK1 and RIPK3 proteins with patient prognosis.
  • Serum levels of RIPK1 and RIPK3 increase with larger infarction volumes and poorer disease outcomes, indicating a correlation with stroke severity.
  • The combined measurement of RIPK1 and RIPK3 shows potential for predicting both the severity of AIS and patient prognosis, suggesting their usefulness in clinical assessments.

Article Synopsis
  • - This phase III trial tested the effectiveness and safety of combining camrelizumab, a type of cancer immunotherapy, with low-dose rivoceranib and a chemotherapy regimen (SOX) in patients with advanced gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma.
  • - Patients were randomly assigned to receive either the combination treatment (SOXRC), a different regimen with higher rivoceranib dose (SOXR), or just the chemotherapy (SOX). Only SOXRC and SOX groups are reported here, with strong results supporting the efficacy of SOXRC.
  • - The findings showed that the SOXRC group had a significantly higher rate of pathologic complete response (18.3% vs. 5

We report here, a case of branch retinal artery occlusion (BRAO) in the left eye of a 76-year-old man that involved three arteries which was considered to be related to a COVID-19 infection due to high levels of blood cytokines and coagulation factors. Although the patient had hypertension and atherosclerosis, his hypertension had been well controlled for the past five years by regular antihypertensive medication. Twenty-five days after starting treatment with anti-inflammatory, anticoagulant and conservative therapy, the patient's biomarkers of inflammation and coagulation returned to normal and his vision improved.

Article Synopsis
  • Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is a highly aggressive brain tumor with a poor prognosis, and deguelin, derived from an African plant, shows potential as a treatment option.
  • Research indicates that deguelin reduces the survival of GBM cells by blocking their progression in the cell cycle and inducing cell death, while also preventing their movement (migration).
  • Key findings suggest that deguelin decreases the levels of the chemokine CCL2, which influences tumor growth and the tumor microenvironment by affecting the NFκB signaling pathway, indicating a possible new approach for GBM therapy.

Article Synopsis
  • * Tryptanthrin has shown potential in reducing inflammation by promoting microglia to switch from the neurotoxic M1 state to the protective M2 state via the cGAS/STING/NF-κB pathway.
  • * In mouse models, tryptanthrin not only improved microglial polarization but also reduced neuron loss, aided tissue repair, and enhanced functional recovery following spinal cord injury.

Background And Objectives: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has become a worldwide public health problem. Current evidence on the association between dietary iron intake and the risk of NAFLD is limited. The present study aimed to investigate the associations of animal-derived dietary iron (ADDI) intake, plant-derived dietary iron (PDDI) intake, and the ratio of PDDI:ADDI with NAFLD risk among U.

Objective: To identify the relationship between thyroid autoimmunity and antinuclear antibody (ANA) prevalence in Chinese pregnant women.

Methods: The study involved 1923 first-trimester women who were measured for thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) level, thyroid autoantibodies (thyroperoxidase antibody [TPOAb] and thyroglobulin antibody [TgAb]) and ANA titer. Social demographic data were collected through standardized questionnaires.

The development of neurodegenerative diseases is closely related to the disruption of central nervous system homeostasis. Microglia, as innate immune cells, play important roles in the maintenance of central nervous system homeostasis, injury response, and neurodegenerative diseases. Lactate has been considered a metabolic waste product, but recent studies are revealing ever more of the physiological functions of lactate.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common malignant glioma among brain tumors with low survival rate and high recurrence rate. Columbianadin (CBN) has pharmacological properties such as anti-inflammatory, analgesic, thrombogenesis-inhibiting and anti-tumor effects. However, it remains unknown that the effect of CBN on GBM cells and its underlying molecular mechanisms.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is one of the most common intracranial primary malignancies with the highest mortality rate, and there is a lack of effective treatments. In this study, we examined the anti-GBM activity of Tenacissoside H (TH), an active component isolated from the traditional Chinese medicine Marsdenia tenacissima (Roxb.) Wight & Arn (MT), and investigated the potential mechanism.

Multi-band emission luminescence materials are of great significance owing to their extensive application in diverse fields. In this research, we successfully prepared a series of Pr-doped CaAlO multi-band emission phosphors via a high-temperature solid-state method. The phase structure, morphology, luminescence spectra and decay curves were investigated in detail.

There are no serum biomarkers available in nontraumatic osteonecrosis of the femoral head in clinical practice. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical value of serum glutathione peroxidase 4 in nontraumatic osteonecrosis of the femoral head. This retrospective study analyzed serum glutathione peroxidase 4 levels and clinical data of 80 patients with nontraumatic osteonecrosis of the femoral head and 80 healthy controls between August 2021 and May 2022.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most aggressive and lethal type of tumor in the central nervous system, characterized by a high incidence and poor prognosis. Thiotert, as a novel dual targeting agent, has potential inhibitory effects on various tumors. Here, we found that Thiotert effectively inhibited the proliferation of GBM cells by inducing G2/M cell cycle arrest and suppressed the migratory ability in vitro.

Objectives: To study the clinical characteristics and prognosis of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant infection-associated acute necrotizing encephalopathy (ANE) in children

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the medical data of 12 children with SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant infection-associated ANE who were admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Qingdao Women and Children's Hospital from December 18 to 29, 2022. The children were divided into two groups based on outcomes: death group (7 cases) and survival group (5 cases). The clinical manifestations and auxiliary examination results were compared between the two groups.

Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is a granulomatous inflammation involving medium and large vessels that can lead to serious clinical manifestations associated with tissue ischemia. Temporal artery biopsy (TAB) is currently the gold standard method for the diagnosis of GCA, with a specificity of 100% and a sensitivity of 77%. However, the false-negative rate for TAB ranges from 9% to 61%.

Microplastics refer to plastic particles measuring less than 5 mm, which has led to serious environmental problem and the detection of these tiny particles is crucial for understanding the corresponding distribution and impact on the marine environment. In this paper, an improved faster region-based convolutional neural network (R-CNN) model was developed for the identification and detection of microplastic particles. In the proposed model, the residual network-50 (ResNet-50) is employed as the backbone with the replacement of the traditional one to enhance the feature extraction capability and the feature pyramid networks (FPN) module is introduced together for solving the multi-scale target detection.

β-Elemene, a compound extracted from Chinese herb , has been demonstrated with antitumor effects in various cancers, including glioblastoma (GBM), a primary brain tumor with high morbidity and mortality. In this study, we reported a bisamino derivative of β-Elemene, 2, 2'-((1R, 3R, 4S)-4-methyl-4-vinylcyclohexane-1, 3-diyl) bis(prop-2-en-1-amine) (compound 1), displayed a better anti-GBM effect than β-Elemene with lower concentration. GBM cell lines (C6 and U87) were treated with compound 1 and subsequently analyzed by several assays.
