Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) alone versus TACE combined with external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) in treating patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
  • 74 patients were treated between 2017 and 2022, with 39 receiving TACE only and 35 receiving the combination treatment, focusing primarily on overall survival (OS) and secondary outcomes like progression-free survival (PFS) and local tumor control.
  • The results indicated that while TACE + EBRT improved local control duration significantly and had slightly better PFS and OS compared to TACE alone, both treatments had comparable toxicity levels, supporting the combination as a standard option for treating non-re

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the link between dietary antioxidant nutrients (ANs) and the development of dementia in older adults, addressing inconsistent findings from previous research.
  • Following 1,550 dementia-free individuals aged 60 and above for an average of 5.2 years, researchers found that those consuming low levels of ANs (less than 112 mg/day) had a higher risk of developing dementia compared to those with higher intakes.
  • The results suggest that maintaining a sufficient intake of antioxidant nutrients may help protect against cognitive decline in individuals aged 70 and older.

Background: Empirical chemotherapy remains the standard of care in patients with unfavourable cancer of unknown primary (CUP). Gene-expression profiling assays have been developed to identify the tissue of origin in patients with CUP; however, their clinical benefit has not yet been demonstrated. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of site-specific therapy directed by a 90-gene expression assay compared with empirical chemotherapy in patients with CUP.

Objective: To investigate differential associations of traditional and novel adiposity indices with visual impairment (VI) in the middle-aged and older Chinese population.

Methods And Analysis: Based on the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, 7750 Chinese older adults aged over 45 were included at baseline 2011, and 4133 participants who accomplished all three interviews from 2011 to 2015 were adapted for longitudinal analyses. We enrolled six adiposity indices, including the body mass index (BMI), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), weight-adjusted-waist index (WWI), a body shape index (ABSI), body roundness index (BRI) and conicity index (ConI).

Background And Objective: Cryoablation is a traditional antitumor therapy with good prospects for development. The efficacy of endoscopic management as a kidney-sparing surgery for high-risk upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) remains controversial. Our aim was to evaluate the impact of endoscopic cryoablation (ECA) versus radical nephroureterectomy (RNU) on survival outcomes, renal function, and complications.

Due to its invaluable potential in discrete mechanical energy collection, TENG (triboelectric nanogenerator) is considered to satisfy the power requirements of intelligent electronic devices and drive the development of the Internet of Things (IoT). Nowadays, the promotion of TENGs has been hindered due to the limitation of their output performance and service life. Herein, a brand new triboelectric nanogenerator based on a multi-material stacking structure is proposed.

At present, medications containing inhaled corticosteroids (ICS-containing) are the keystones of asthma treatment. The majority of asthmatic children can significantly improve clinical outcomes with little worsening by standardized inhaled glucocorticoid treatment, but there is still a small proportion of children who are unable to achieve good symptom control even after the maximum standardized treatment, known as 'children with difficult-to-treat asthma (DA)'. The high heterogeneity of DA makes therapy challenging and expensive, which poses a serious risk to children's health and makes it extremely difficult for clinical physicians to accurately identify and treat children with DA.

Background: Lack of evaluations of the dietary phosphorus and dialysis phosphorus removal in daily clinical practice are common obstacles to assessing phosphorus balance and controlling phosphorus in hemodialysis patients. We aimed to investigate whether individualized therapy using a phosphorus balance calculator improves phosphorus control.

Methods: A randomized, open-label, multicenter, 4-week clinical trial was conducted.
