Background: Inpatients with high risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) usually face serious threats to their health and economic conditions. Many studies using machine learning (ML) models to predict VTE risk overlook the impact of class-imbalance problem due to the low incidence rate of VTE, resulting in inferior and unstable model performance, which hinders their ability to replace the Padua model, a widely used linear weighted model in clinic. Our study aims to develop a new VTE risk assessment model suitable for Chinese medical inpatients.

Article Synopsis
  • A study explored the use of deep learning (DL) to improve the accuracy of selecting sampling positions in renal artery ultrasound exams, which hasn't been previously researched.
  • The research involved 2004 patients, categorizing their color Doppler sonography images into four groups: abdominal aorta, normal renal artery, renal artery stenosis, and intrarenal interlobular artery.
  • Among seven DL object detection models tested, the Double Head R-CNN model performed the best, achieving high accuracies and suggesting that it could help less experienced physicians make better sampling position choices.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the impact of microbubble degradation and flow velocity on Sub-Harmonic Aided Pressure Estimation (SHAPE), and to explore the correlation between subharmonic amplitude and pressure as a single factor.

Methods: We develop an open-loop vascular phantom platform system and utilize a commercial ultrasound machine and microbubbles for subharmonic imaging. Subharmonic amplitude was measured continuously at constant pressure and flow velocity to assess the impact of microbubble degradation.

This study aimed to determine the rates and characteristics of parathyroid disorder and thyroid cancer in patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 vs sporadic primary hyperparathyroidism (SPHP) undergoing parathyroidectomy.Patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1-associated primary hyperparathyroidism (MPHP) or SPHP who underwent initial or reoperative parathyroid exploration from 1999 to 2019 were identified via a clinical database. The data for MPHP patients (n = 15) were compared to those of a selected 2:1 age- and sex-matched SPHP cohort (n = 30) who all underwent thyroidectomy for concurrent thyroid nodules.

We examined 14 benign and 26 malignant breast nodules by a handheld dual-modal PA/US imaging system and analyzed the data using the quantitative and semi-quantitative method. The and PA scores of different regions of the benign and malignant nodules were compared, and the diagnostic performances of two diagnostic methods based on PA parameters were evaluated. For both quantitative and semi-quantitative results, significant differences in the distributions of PA signals in different regions of benign and malignant breast lesions were identified.

To develop and to validate a risk-predicted nomogram for downgrading Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) category 4a breast lesions. We enrolled 680 patients with breast lesions that were diagnosed as BI-RADS category 4a by conventional ultrasound from December 2018 to June 2019. All 4a lesions were randomly divided into development and validation groups at the ratio of 3:1.

Thyroid nodules are very common all over the world, and China is no exception. Ultrasound plays an important role in determining the risk stratification of thyroid nodules, which is critical for clinical management of thyroid nodules. For the past few years, many versions of TIRADS (Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System) have been put forward by several institutions with the aim to identify whether nodules require fine-needle biopsy or ultrasound follow-up.
