Article Synopsis
  • This study aims to evaluate a modified AAV vector that selectively targets and treats EpCAM-positive breast cancer cells, both in lab settings and in live models.
  • The research utilized an engineered AAV2 vector fused with an EpCAM-specific protein to specifically infect breast cancer cells and deliver a therapeutic gene.
  • Results indicated that this modified AAV2M vector not only efficiently inhibited tumor growth in mice but also minimized unwanted accumulation in the liver compared to traditional methods, suggesting a promising approach for breast cancer gene therapy.

To investigate the effects of SI-4650, a novel small molecule inhibitor of spermine oxidase (SMO), on the proliferation and epithelial mesenchymal transformation (EMT) of human ovarian cancer SKVO-3 cells as well as its underlying molecular mechanisms. SKVO-3 cells treated with 0 μmol/L SI-4650 were used as control group, SKVO-3 cells treated with 30, 60 μmol/L SI-4650 were used as experimental group. The effects of SI-4650 on the activity of SMO, the polyamine contents and the cellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) were detected.

There are sparse reports on the distribution of microplastics in the ice sheets of freshwater lakes. In this study, the abundance, color, shape, and species of microplastics in the ice sheet of Lake Wuliangsuhai were characterized using field sampling and microscope observations. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and correlation analysis were used to examine the distribution of microplastics contained in the lake and its relationships with salinity and chlorophyll a.

Understanding the controls on composition changes and porosity evolution in the critical zone of shale remains a major challenge. The aim of the present study is to develop a model of the changes in mineral compositions, chemical compositions and nanopore formation in shale during the initial weathering stage. To understand these processes, we selected a Silurian shale profile rich in pyrite and organic matter located in South China.

Objective: To investigate the effects of a novel polyamine metabolism enzyme inhibitor SI-4650 on autophagy and apoptosis of colon cancer CT-26 cells as well as their correlation.

Methods: CT-26 cells treated with 40, 80 μmol·L SI-4650 alone or in combination with 3-MA were used as experimental group. CT-26 cells treated with 0 μmol·L SI-4650 alone or in combination with 3-MA were used as control group.

The aim of this paper was to investigate the effect of total polysaccharide from Balanophora henryi(TBP) on alcoholic liver disease(ALD) and explore the possible mechanism. C57 BL/6 N mice were randomly divided into 4 groups: pair-feeding group, alcohol-feeding model group, model+TBP group and TBP drug control group. The Gao-binge method was used to prepare the chronic ALD model, and at the same time, 400 mg·kg~(-1) TBP was given for interventional therapy.

Microplastic pollution due to land runoff has gained increasing attention as it is closely associated with human beings. In this study, we analyzed the occurrence characteristics of microplastics in drainage channel and main drainage channel in Hetao irrigation district of Inner Mongolia and estimated its quality. Through field sampling, the density separation of suspension method and microscope observation, Fourier infrared spectrum measurement, and proportional flow method, the abundance distribution, shape, color, particle size, and chemical composition of microplastics in the water body and sediment of the drainage channel and main drainage channel in the Hetao irrigation district were identified.

In the process of tumor cell apoptosis induced by specific regents, calreticulin (CRT) was transferred from endoplasmic reticulum (ER) onto the cell membrane. These tumor cells, when used as the cellular vaccine to immunize experimental animals, could initiate effective antitumor immunoresponse against homologous tumor cells. This is referred to as immunogenic cell death.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of the novel polyamine analog tetrabutyl propanediamine (TBP) on the growth of K562 chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) cells and the underlying mechanism of these effects. MTT was used for the analysis of cell proliferation and flow cytometry was performed to analyze cell cycle distribution. DNA fragmentation analysis and Annexin V/propidium iodide double staining were used to identify apoptotic cells.

Purpose: To investigate the curative efficacy of osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) in a hip-preserving operative approach, by grafting a vascularized greater trochanter flap combined with a free iliac flap, in an attempt to seek an innovative approach for patients who suffered middle to late stage ONFH without total hip arthroplasty (THA) surgery.

Method: Our research included a total of 60 patients (66 hips) who accepted hip-preserving surgery by grafting a vascularized greater trochanter flap combined with a free iliac flap which was tightly filled by hammering because of ONFH (most were Association Research Circulation Osseous (ARCO) stage III patients) from January, 2006 to December, 2010. A Harris Hip Score was obtained during follow-ups, evaluating the clinical efficacy, X-rays were taken regularly for image assessing, and the SF-36 scale was used for estimating quality of life.

Aim: To prepare mouse anti-human spermine oxidase (anti-hSMO) monoclonal antibody (mAb) and testify its application in the biological techniques including Western blotting and immunohistochemistry.

Methods: Plasmid pET-15b/SMO was first transferred into BL21 (DE3), and then SMO recombinant protein with 6×His tag was induced to express by IPTG and purified by Ni-NTA resin. The purified recombinant SMO was used to immunize BALB/c mouse.

Aim: To study the influence of HBcAg on the expression of transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-beta1) in liver tissue of low-grade chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients.

Methods: The expression of TGF-beta1 and HBcAg in liver samples from 93 low-grade CHB patients was detected by immunohistochemistry and valuated by semi-quantitative scoring.

Results: In the 93 low-grade CHB patients, HBcAg was expressed in cell plasma but not in the liver tissue.
