Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is an aggressive malignancy and the most common form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) that occurs worldwide. To discover risk factors and pathogenesis of DLBCL, we performed the largest GWAS of DLBCL to date in samples of East Asian ancestry, consisting of 2,888 patients with DLBCL and 12,458 controls. The meta-analysis identified three novel loci, rs2233434 on 6p21.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how plasma metabolites are linked to the progression of chronic kidney disease in individuals with type 2 diabetes, focusing on kidney function decline measured by eGFR slope.
  • Researchers analyzed data from over 5,000 people, identifying specific elevated levels of lipids and amino acids that influence kidney function, both positively and negatively.
  • The findings suggest that metabolite abnormalities, particularly related to fatty acids, may indicate issues with fat breakdown and are connected to the risk of worsening kidney health in diabetic patients.

The use of light energy to drive photocatalytic organic transformations for the production of high-value-added organic compounds has garnered growing interest as a sustainable strategy for solving environmental problems and addressing the energy crisis. Naphthalenediimide (NDI) and perylenediimide (PDI)-based hybrid materials are highly regarded photocatalysts due to their strong visible-light absorption properties, highly electron-deficient aromatic cores, excellent redox activity, and tunable electrochemical and photochemical properties. However, although the design and preparation of NDI/PDI-based hybrid materials have progressed in the past few years, their application in photocatalytic organic reactions remains in the initial stage.

The use of light energy to drive asymmetric organic transformations to produce high-value-added organic compounds is attracting increasing interest as a sustainable strategy for solving environmental problems and addressing the energy crisis. Chiral covalent organic frameworks (COFs), as porous crystalline chiral materials, have become an important platform on which to explore new chiral photocatalytic materials due to their precise tunability, chiral structure, and function. This review highlights recent research progress on chiral COFs and their crystalline composites, evaluating their application as catalysts in asymmetric photocatalytic organic transformations in terms of their structure.

: Neuronal excitotoxicity and metabolic decline, which begin in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease (AD), pose challenges for effective amelioration. Our previous work suggested that the natural compound xanthohumol, the most abundant prenylated flavonoid in hops, prevents memory deficits in APP/PS1 mice; however, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. : This study utilized APP/PS1 mice and cutting-edge omics techniques to investigate the effects of xanthohumol on hippocampal proteome, serum metabolome, and microbiome.

  • Patients with diabetes are at a higher risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) compared to those without diabetes, but long-term outcomes specific to diabetic patients after AKI are not well-studied.
  • A study involving 1684 participants with type 2 diabetes followed them over an average of 4.2 years to evaluate risk factors for AKI and its impact on kidney and heart health.
  • Results showed that those who experienced AKI had a significantly increased risk of end stage kidney disease (ESKD), major cardiovascular events (MACE), and all-cause mortality, highlighting the need for careful monitoring of diabetic patients who suffer from any episode of AKI.

With an electron-deficient rigid planar structure and excellent π-π stacking ability, hexaazatriphenylene (HAT) and its derivatives are widely used as basic building blocks for constructing covalent organic frameworks (COFs), components of organic light-emitting diodes and solar cells, and electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Here, a HAT derivative, hexaazatriphenylenehexacarbonitrile, is explored as an anode material for LIBs. The HAT anode exhibited high initial reversible capacities of 672 mA h g at 100 mA g and 550 mA h g at 400 mA g and stable cycling with a capacity of 503 mA h g after 1000 cycles at 400 mA g corresponding to a capacity retention of 91.

Aim: Among multi-ethnic Asians, type 2 diabetes (T2D) clustered in three subtypes; mild obesity-related diabetes (MOD), mild age-related diabetes with insulin insufficiency (MARD-II) and severe insulin-resistant diabetes with relative insulin insufficiency (SIRD-RII) had differential cardio-renal complication risk. We assessed the proteomic profiles to identify subtype specific biomarkers and its association with diabetes complications.

Methods: 1448 plasma proteins at baseline were measured and compared across the T2D subtypes.

Background: Diabetic kidney disease is an established risk factor for heart failure. However, the impact of incident heart failure on the subsequent risk of renal failure has not been systematically assessed in diabetic population. We sought to study the risk of progression to end stage kidney disease (ESKD) after incident heart failure in Asian patients with type 2 diabetes.

  • Lactate is a key indicator of mitochondrial dysfunction, and recent studies are exploring its significance in diabetic kidney disease (DKD), particularly in individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and type 1 diabetes (T1D).
  • In cohorts of T2D patients (HUNT3, SMART2D, CRIC), higher urine lactate levels were linked to worse kidney function and faster declines in glomerular filtration rate; additionally, increased lactate levels were observed in T1D patients during glucose challenges.
  • The study suggests that elevated lactate, particularly in diabetic conditions, may inhibit important mitochondrial processes and contribute to the pathology of DKD, potentially through mechanisms

Spirotryprostatins are representative members of medicinally interesting bioactive molecules of the spirooxindole natural products. In this communication, we present a novel enantioselective total synthesis of the spirooxindole alkaloid dihydrospirotryprostatin B. The synthesis takes advantage of copper-catalyzed tandem reaction of -iodoanilide chiral sulfinamide derivatives with alkynone to rapidly construct the key quaternary carbon stereocenter of the natural product dihydrospirotryprostatin B.

  • The study explores the interaction of chiral Majorana fermions (MFs) with either two parallel Majorana zero modes (MZMs) or two parallel quantum dots (QDs), finding that their resonant exchange behaves similarly in both cases.
  • A proposed circuit using a topological superconductor, achieved by coupling a quantum anomalous Hall insulator with a s-wave superconductor, aims to observe the resonant exchange of chiral MF pairs.
  • Key findings indicate that the resonant transmission of chiral MFs can be finely tuned by adjusting coupling parameters, potentially enabling non-Abelian braiding operations, which could be significant for developing topological quantum computers.

Chlorophenols (CPs) are a group of pollutants that pose a great threat to the environment, they are widely used in industrial and agricultural wastes, pesticides, herbicides, textiles, pharmaceuticals and plastics. Among CPs, pentachlorophenol was listed as one of the persistent organic pollutants (POPs) by the Stockholm convention. This study aims to identify the UDP-glucosyltransferase (UGT) isoforms involved in the metabolic elimination of CPs.

Circulating ceramide levels are dysregulated in kidney disease. However, their associations with rapid decline in kidney function (RDKF) and end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) are unknown. Chondrocytes are unique resident cells in the articular cartilage, and the pathological changes of them can lead to the occurrence of osteoarthritis(OA). Ligusticum cycloprolactam(LIGc) are derivatives of Z-ligustilide(LIG), a pharmacodynamic marker of Angelica sinensis, which has various biological functions such as anti-inflammation and inhibition of cell apoptosis. However, its protective effect on chondrocytes in the case of OA and the underlying mechanism remain unclear.
