Evidence increasingly indicated that lung cancer incidence in female individuals continue to rise, and women have a higher risk to develop adenocarcinoma than men. Male and female individuals differ in their innate and adaptive immune responses, and there are sex differences in response to the PD-1/PD-L1-dependent blocking immunotherapy. Whether the differential expression of PD-1 between genders affect the response to blocking treatment is currently unknown.

Programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) expression on the T cells exert complex response during the tumor immune response. But the composition and function of PD-1T-cell subsets in TILs from human lung cancer still limited.

In this study, we showed that glycogen synthase kinase-3β inhibitor TWS119 has different effects on CD4 and CD8 T cells in TILs. TWS119 preserved the expansion of naive T cell and CD8 stem cell-like memory T cells, and induced CD8 effector T-cell proliferation in TILs.

The methods to regulate the Treg population in cancer-bearing hosts are limited currently. The effect of curcumin on inhibiting cancer has been recognized, but the mechanism remains elusive.

In this study, we investigated the properties of human T cell subsets in the blood of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. We found a relatively normal level of CD4+ subsets in the blood of NSCLC patients, but CD8+ effector T cells increased and CD8+ effector memory cells declined compared to the healthy donors.

Knowledge of the classification and function of TILs is important to develop personalized immunotherapy with TILs in non-small lung cancer (NSCLC). In this study, we show the characteristics of T-cell subsets in TILs isolated from NSCLC.

The distribution and function of Tscm cells in human lung cancer remain unknown. In this study, we investigated the properties of human Tscm cells in the blood and lymph node of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.

Although increased expression of proinflammatory cytokines has been found in ethanol-treated mouse brain and rat brain slice cultures as well as in post-mortem human alcoholic brain, the mechanisms remain elusive. High-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) protein is a nuclear protein that has endogenous cytokine-like activity.

Methods: Eleven consecutive male patients with velo-orohypopharyngeal and hypopharyngeal narrowing underwent MMA with concomitant H-UPPP for severe OSAHS. All patients underwent a physical examination, Epworth Sleepiness Scale evaluation, cephalometry, nocturnal polysomnogram, and velopharyngeal insufficiency questionnaire survey before and at 6 to 12 months after surgery.

Objective: To investigate the female sexual dysfunction (FSD) in type 2 diabetes patients, by comparing the sexual function between type 2 diabetic women and non-diabetic women with Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI).
Methods: 115 type 2 diabetic women and 107 age-matched non-diabetes women were enrolled with similar backgrounds. Their sexual functions were evaluated with FSFI.
Glutamate and the proinflammatory cytokine, tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF alpha), have been suggested to contribute to neurodegenerative diseases. We investigated the interaction of TNF alpha and glutamate on neuronal cell death using fluorescence propidium iodide uptake in rat organotypic hippocampal-entorhinal cortex (HEC) brain slice culture that maintains the cytoarchitecture of the intact brain. Time course and concentration studies indicate that glutamate produced significant neuronal cell death in all four brain areas examined, for example, entorhinal cortex, hippocampal CA1 and CA3 fields, and dentate gyrus.
